Periodontal repair in intrabony defects treated with a calcium carbonate implant and guided tissue regeneration.

Clinical outcome following the concurrent use of a porous resorbable calcium carbonate (CC) implant and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) in intrabony periodontal defects was evaluated in a randomized four-treatment parallel arm study. Eighty (80) patients, each contributing one interproximal intrabony defect, were assigned to the four treatments (20 patients per treatment) including the CC implant and GTR (CC + GTR), GTR alone (GTR control), CC implant alone (CC control), and gingival flap surgery alone (GFS control). Fourteen patients treated with CC + GTR, 19 patients treated with the GTR co

Guided tissue regeneration demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft: treatment of furcation defects in mandibular molars.

The present study evaluated the effects of combined guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) therapy on the healing of grade III furcation lesions in mandibular molars of seven periodontitis patients. De novo surgical debridement of furcation roofs by fine diamond bur was introduced. Routine presurgical preparation of teeth and a strict plaque control program were performed for at least six weeks before surgery. A papillary conserved full thickness mucoperiosteal flap was used in all cases. In addition to conventional debridement, odontoplasty was

Locally delivered minocycline and guided tissue regeneration to treat post-juvenile periodontitis. A case report.

A case of post-juvenile periodontitis in a 28-year-old female patient is described along with new periodontal treatment modalities. Administration of minocycline-HCl with local drug delivery system was introduced as a part of initial periodontal therapy following microbiological and immunological examinations. The lesions were subsequently treated by guided tissue regeneration, which resulted in considerable gain of attachment with minimal recession of marginal gingiva. This observation suggests that the local delivery of antibiotics and regenerative therapy may prove to be effective alternati

Guided tissue regeneration in surgically-produced furcation defects. An experimental study in the beagle dog.

The aim of the investigation was to evaluate the potential for new attachment formation at various degree III furcation involvements in the beagle dog. 3 differently shaped furcation defects were prepared; one small and one large key-hole defect, and one furcation defect which was part of "circumferential" loss of attachment and bone. 15 beagle dogs were used in the experiments. The furcation defects were surgically created at mandibular premolars in the right and left side of the jaw. Test teeth were subsequently treated according to the GTR principle, while control teeth were treated without

Periodontal ligament stem cell tissue engineering scaffolds can guide and promote canine periodontal tissue regeneration.

INTRODUCTION: Periodontal disease, including gingivitis and periodontitis, is caused by dental plaque invading the periodontal tissues and is the most common oral disease. The basic treatment methods applied in the clinic can destroy dental plaque, smooth the root surface, and reduce local inflammation, but it is difficult to completely regenerate and rebuild the complex three-dimensional periodontal tissues. The rapid development of periodontal tissue engineering has led to the development of new methods for the treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) are ke

A clinical/statistical comparison between the subpedicle connective tissue graft method and the guided tissue regeneration technique in root coverage.

Subepithelial connective tissue grafts and guided tissue regeneration have been shown to be effective means to obtain root coverage. The purpose of this study is to compare statistically the results obtained with these techniques 1 year after the surgical procedures were performed. Thirty-six gingival recessions belonging to Class I and Class II of the Miller classification were treated: 18 cases with subepithelial connective tissue grafts (SCTG) and 18 cases with guided tissue regeneration (GTR). Each patient was randomly assigned to a group. At baseline, the group treated with subepithelial

Evaluation of the regenerative effect of a 25% doxycycline-loaded biodegradable membrane for guided tissue regeneration.

BACKGROUND: Biodegradable materials have been successfully utilized for guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and local delivery systems (LDS) because they are biocompatible, less cytotoxic, and do not require removal. Several studies have demonstrated that tetracyclines (TCs), when applied topically, stimulated osteogenesis in experimental bone defects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the regenerative effect of a 25% doxycycline-loaded biodegradable GTR membrane (Doxy-M) in dogs. METHODS: Doxy-M was made by coating the inner surface of a biodegradable membrane (BD-M) with 25% doxycyclin

Use of guided tissue regeneration in the treatment of a lateral periodontal cyst with a 7-month reentry.

BACKGROUND: The lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) is an unusual cyst of odontogenic origin, most frequently encountered in the mandible between the roots of canines and premolars. The most common treatment for LPC is surgical enucleation. This article reports a case of an LPC treated with guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and bone allograft. METHODS: A 74-year-old woman presented for periodontal examination. Radiographs revealed a cystic lesion with LPC characteristics. After surgical incisions and flap reflection, the cyst was removed and sent for biopsy. Because of the anatomy of the resulting

Advances in the use of guided tissue regeneration for localized ridge augmentation in combination with dental implants.

Osseointegrated dental implants placed into adequate bone enjoy a high success rate. However, placing implants into resorbed alveolar ridges can result in fixtures that are not optimally positioned or must be placed in insufficient bone, thus reducing their rate of success. Recently, techniques for bone regeneration developed for use around teeth have been applied to implant dentistry. Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR), also called Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR), uses thin membranes which act as barriers to soft tissue ingrowth. This approach for regenerating bone around implants is described i

Guided tissue regeneration and a free gingival graft for the management of buccal recession: a case report.

Five patients with buccal gingival recession (4 to 6 mm) underwent surgical treatment consisting of a guided tissue regeneration procedure associated with a free gingival graft. The graft was used to cover the newly formed tissue on the root surface at the reentry. Root coverage was complete in three patients, while 1 mm of recession remained in the other two patients. The free gingival graft reconstructed the keratinized tissue, which had been lost because of recession. Moreover, it allowed the mucogingival junction, which had been displaced coronally during the first surgery, to be realigned

Synthetic Periodontal Guided Tissue Regeneration Membrane with Self-Assembling Biphasic Structure and Temperature-Sensitive Shape Maintenance.

Periodontal disease poses significant challenges to the long-term stability of oral health by destroying the supporting structures of teeth. Guided tissue regeneration techniques, particularly barrier membranes, enable local regeneration by providing an isolated, protected compartment for osseous wound healing while excluding epithelial tissue. Here, this study reports on a thermosensitive periodontal membrane (TSPM) technology designed to overcome the mechanical limitations of current membranes through a semi-interpenetrating network of high molecular weight poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) and in

ZnO nanoparticles-modified polycaprolactone-gelatin membranes for guided/bone tissue regeneration, antibacterial and osteogenic differentiation properties.

Periodontitis is a highly prevalent infectious disease that causes the progressive destruction of the periodontal supporting tissues. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss impairing oral function, aesthetics, and the patient's overall quality of life. Guided and Bone Tissue Regeneration (GTR/BTR) are surgical therapies based on the placement of a membrane that prevents epithelial growth into the defect, allowing the periodontal/bone cells (including stem cells) to regenerate or restore the affected tissues. The success of these therapies is commonly affected by the local bacterial colon

Periodontal repair in dogs: rhBMP-2 significantly enhances bone formation under provisions for guided tissue regeneration.

The cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator (CFTR) should no longer be viewed primarily as a 'chloride channel' but recognized as a channel that also controls the efflux of other physiologically important anions, such as glutathione (GSH) and bicarbonate. More effective approaches to cystic fibrosis treatment may result from this reconceptualization of the CFTR by researchers and clinicians. For example, oxidant damage in cystic fibrosis has been assumed to be a significant part of the pathophysiology of the disease. Generally speaking, antioxidant status in cystic fibrosis is compromised. How

Clinical evaluation of guided tissue regeneration in the treatment of maxillary class II molar furcation invasions.

This investigation assessed and compared the clinical efficacy of combined open flap debridement/occlusive membrane therapy versus open flap debridement therapy alone, in the treatment of maxillary periodontal furcation defects. Seventeen patients presenting with advanced adult periodontitis, including at least one pair of Class II maxillary furcal defects, comprised the study group. Following completion of a hygienic phase of treatment, measurements were made with calibrated periodontal probes to determine soft tissue recession, probing pocket depths, and attachment levels.
