BACKGROUND: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is one of the major causes of acute hepatitis in humans worldwide with a case-fatality rate of 1-4% in the general population that might reach 30% in pregnant women. In the past decade in Africa, studies have shown that HEV infects not only humans but also animals. BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is defined as a spectrum of conditions ranging from hepatocellular steatosis to steatohepatitis and fibrosis, progressing to cirrhosis, which occur in the absence of excessive alcohol use. The effects of arterial hypotension and a raised intracranial pressure on cerebral blood flow (CBF) have been investigated in an animal model of hepatic failure.
