INTRODUCTION: The relevance of tubulo-interstitial involvement for kidney prognosis has recently been emphasized, but validated biomarkers for predicting histology are still lacking. Autoimmune hepatitis does not have a pathognomonic feature, and its laboratory, serologic, and histologic manifestations are shared with a variety of acute and chronic liver diseases. The disease has active and quiescent phases and thus variable histologic appearances. This article outlines the many histologic faces of autoimmune hepatitis. It discusses the fulminant and acute forms, as well as the chronic hepatitic forms. Overlap syndromes with primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis are described. The role of the pathologist in reporting the biopsies is discussed.

PURPOSE: To report histologic findings in 14 AlphaCor artificial corneas implanted during clinical trials and subsequently explanted from human subjects following complications, so as to evaluate biointegration within the device skirt.

PURPOSE: To report a child with a microcornea complicated by bullous keratopathy and to present the results of a developmental and histological investigation of a microcornea.
METHODS: Clinical and histopathological examination.
RESULTS: Histopathological examination of the microcornea showed that the microcornea of our case lacked the non-banded zone of Descemet's layer and formed collagenous layer and secondary Descemet's membrane.
CONCLUSION: This case demonstrates that histological finding of microcornea is not necessarily normal.
