Over the past several years, individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) have become involved with the legal system at an increasing rate. State psychiatric hospitals and community mental health programs have seen a high number of referrals and admissions at a time when resources and staffing have been challenges. Pneumocystis jirovecii DNA was detected using a polymerase chain reaction assay in air samples collected using an air-liquid impaction device at 1 m distance from three out of 14 infants who had developed Pneumocystis primary infection. P. jirovecii genotype identification was successful in one out of three pairs of air samples. BACKGROUND: In preparation for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic/Paralympic Games, the Japanese government assessed the risks of infectious disease outbreaks and identified necessary preparations. This present study reviewed efforts made during a previous measles epidemic and describes the roles of hospitals.
METHODS: This descriptive study investigated the records of 198 children with measles. All children were treated at a general hospital during the period from January 1997 through February 1998. We also examined the actions of pediatricians during and after a measles outbreak in the community.

BACKGROUND: Invasive infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (invasive group A streptococcus [iGAS]) and Streptococcus pneumoniae (invasive pneumococcal disease [IPD]) decreased substantially at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. INTRODUCTION: A retrospective cohort study on Salmonella-associated diseases (SADs) was conducted in 14 public hospitals across Lagos State, Nigeria, between 1999 and 2008.
