Tuberculosis and cancer are two processes in relationship. The relation between both are studied. We analyzed retrospectively the culture-positive tuberculosis cases in from 1999 to 2002. BACKGROUND: The referral pattern of child psychiatry was reviewed over a period of 3 years. The setting was a local general hospital with in-patient and out-patient adult psychiatric services. The cases studied were from out-patient based services rendered for children.

A retrospective study of 100 consecutive elderly Chinese patients (29 males, 71 females) aged 65 years and above admitted to a general hospital psychiatric unit, showed a predominance of depressive disorders (n = 36) and dementia (n = 26). A descriptive study on psychiatric inpatients of a general hospital was conducted. During a four-year- and -ten-month period, 1390 hospitalization admissions were analysed. Among them, 436 (31.4%) were diagnosed as mood disorder, 431 (31.0%) were schizophrenia, followed by other psychosis (231 admissions, 16.6%), organic mental disorder (164 admissions, 11.8%), neurosis (116 admissions, 8.3%) and other mental disorders (12 admissions, 0.9%). Thirty-three cases of infective endocarditis presenting during a 6.5 year period to a district general hospital were analysed retrospectively. The carotid surgical experience of Cheltenham General Hospital over a 13 year period (1968-81) is presented. This includes 42 operations for stenosis, and 12 further operations for carotid body tumour, carotid aneurysm, subclavian steal syndrome and trauma to the internal carotid artery. The operative techniques and complications are briefly discussed and reasons advanced for a more agressive approach to the problems of extra-cerebral carotid disease in this country.
