This article presents five cases of an unusual dental anomaly--transposition of mandibular canine and lateral incisor. While every one of the presented cases had its individual characteristics, there are certain common traits. For instance, deciduous canines are usually retained, and the anomaly is found concurrent with other dental problems, such as congenital absence of teeth or peg-shaped lateral incisors. Many transposition cases also have a severe arch length discrepancy, which in itself may be an etiologic factor. In two of our cases orthodontic management included extraction of the tran

Two children, one boy and one girl, each with solitary maxillary deciduous and permanent central incisors, normal height, and normal plasma growth hormone levels, are reported. Review of the literature reveals fourteen reports of patients with a similar dental anomaly. Of these, three are normal in height. The height and growth rate of patients with a single maxillary central incisor should be evaluated prior to growth hormone evaluation; such investigation should be undertaken only if the height is two standard deviations below the mean or if there is evidence of plateauing of linear growth.

Impacted maxillary incisors are rare and pose significant esthetic and functional challenges, particularly when associated with other dental anomalies and skeletal discrepancies. This case highlights the interdisciplinary management of such a complex case. An 18-year-old male presented with a missing maxillary left central incisor, a fractured maxillary right lateral incisor of uncertain prognosis, and a skeletal Class III malocclusion with anterior and lateral crossbite. Clinical examination, panoramic radiography, and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) confirmed impaction of the maxillary

This clinical case report presents the orthodontic diagnosis and management of a 15-year-old female patient with two rare concurrent dental anomalies - unilateral agenesis of the maxillary left lateral incisor and complete transposition of the mandibular right canine and lateral incisor. The absence of tooth #22 was managed by canine substitution, with tooth #23 reshaped and positioned to simulate a lateral incisor, while tooth #24 was adapted to function as a canine. The mandibular transposition between teeth #42 and #43 was accepted and aligned in the transposed position, with careful biomec

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to evaluate the remineralization effect of two different mineral containing agents on white/creamy and yellow/brown demarcated opacities in incisors in children with molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) by using laser fluoresence (LF).
STUDY DESIGN: Fifty-three children (n=401 lesions) with MIH were randomly divided into three groups: (1)calcium glycerophosphate (CaGP), (2)casein phosphopeptide amorphous calcium fluoride phosphate (CPP-ACFP) and, (3)control (1450 ppm fluoride toothpaste). Remineralization was evaluated by means of LF, at baseline,

Several causes of eruption disturbances in upper permanent central incisors have been described. This report describes six cases in which the failure of maxillary permanent central incisors to erupt appears to be associated with developmental anomalies in the adjacent permanent lateral incisors. The root formation of the unerupted central incisors was delayed in comparison to the contralateral incisors as was the development of the adjacent lateral incisors. The shapes of the crowns were abnormal and in five cases out of the six described, the primary predecessors of the unerupted incisors wer

Patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion may have limited alveolar support around the mandibular incisors, but conventional cephalometric measures do not directly describe the root-alveolus relationship. This retrospective cross-sectional study quantified labial and lingual alveolar bone thickness and examined whether signed IA-PAMD indicated apical root position within the symphysis. Pretreatment cone-beam computed tomography and lateral cephalometric records from 80 untreated patients (320 incisors) with signed ANB < 0° were analyzed. Bone thickness was measured at three root levels. Co

This case report describes the multidisciplinary management of an adolescent girl with traumatic loss of the maxillary right central lateral incisors, and a unilateral Class II crossbite malocclusion. A rapid palatal expansion appliance was used initially to correct the transverse deficiency and secondarily as an anchorage unit for unilateral molar distalization to correct the Class II molar relationship. Temporary incisors were extended from a Nance stabilizing appliance during premolar and canine retraction. A staged approach was used with bone grafting before the placement of 2 single-tooth

The occurrence of a single median maxillary central incisor (SMMCI) is a very rare condition and might be a sign of a more severe midline defect, which could be a mild degree of holoprosencephaly. Absence of the internasal and partial absence of the intermaxillary suture has been observed in a fetus with holoprosencephaly. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the intermaxillary suture, the eruption pattern of the single central incisor in the SMMCI condition, and the growth of the maxilla in a group of patients with SMMCI. A similar study was not found in the scientific literature. The ma

Dental transpositions are rare anomalies, which may present to the general dental practitioner or orthodontist. Transpositions occur less frequently in the mandible compared with the maxilla, with the most common mandibular transposition involving the mandibular lateral incisor and canine. The degree of displacement can vary from a relatively minor deviation to complete transposition of the mandibular lateral incisor with the adjacent canine tooth. Due to their highly visible position at the front of the mouth, treatment, ideally involving alignment of these teeth, is important for aesthetic,

UNLABELLED: Clinically, Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) lesions are not distributed symmetrically, and their severity varies even within the same arcade.
AIM: To estimate the frequency of asymmetries in hypomineralized lesions on permanent molars and incisors of children with MIH.
METHODS: Three pediatric dentists, calibrated following the diagnostic criteria of Mathu-Muju and Wright (2006) (Kappa 0.87) identified presence and severity of opacities on molars and incisors of patients with MIH. Six pairs of teeth (permanent maxillary and mandibular first molars, central and lateral inci

This case report presents the mandibular incisor extraction treatment of a patient with dental Class I malocclusion and lower crowding, in whom one mandibular incisor extraction was selected as the treatment of choice to improve the dental occlusion. A 19-year-old male patient's chief complaint was the crowding of lower incisors. He had a straight profile with normal upper and lower lip projection. Upper and lower dental midlines were coincident with the facial midline. The patient had Class I molar and canine relationships on both sides. He had Class I skeletal relationship, low angle vertica

Agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors and mandibular second premolars is the most frequent form of hypodontia. Its prevalence varies across population from 0.8% to 4.5%. Genetic aberrations and environmental factors may cause agenesis of one or more teeth. The management of child having such a problem is very important since diastema in teeth especially in upper anteriors not only affects child's physical appearance but also its psychological development as the child wants to look like other children. In this article is presented a case of non-syndromic agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors

OBJECTIVE: To verify, via CBCT, the existence of a definable distance for bodily intrusion of maxillary incisors, and its correlation to age, sex and/or facial biotype.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The sample consisted of sagittal sections obtained from 79 CBCTs of 220 maxillary incisors correctly aligned on their osseous base (maxillary plane/long axis between 105° and 115°). The same sagittal sections were then used to measure the distance between the root apex and upper internal cortical bone of the jaw at each incisor, along the extension of the long axis. The patient sample was divided into th

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the long-term clinical and radiographic effects of maxillary incisor root resorption in cases of ectopic canines treated during the late 1970s and 1980s in Jönköping, Sweden.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The material comprised 55 incisors in 38 subjects. The posttreatment follow-up time was 13 to 28 years. All subjects underwent intraoral radiography, 33 were referred for computed tomography or cone beam computed tomography, and 24 also underwent clinical examination. The severity of incisor root resorption was correlated with clinical characteristics. Radiographs of the resor
