Impact of the infusion line on co-loading and highly diluted norepinephrine administration through a single peripheral venous catheter: An in vitro simulation of the infusion protocol used during cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia.

BACKGROUND: Rapid crystalloid co-loading and prophylactic norepinephrine may share a peripheral intravenous catheter during cesarean delivery. We assessed whether infusion-system architecture alters fluid and drug delivery. METHODS: Six infusion-system configurations were tested in vitro. Norepinephrine 8 μg/mL was infused at 30 mL/h (4 μg/min) while 1000 mL saline was delivered from a pressure bag initially inflated to 300 mmHg. Outcomes were crystalloid volume delivered during the first 10 min, time within the norepinephrine target range of 3.5-4.5 μg/min, and the proportion of measurements

A randomized double-blind study comparing prophylactic norepinephrine and ephedrine infusion for preventing maternal spinal hypotension during elective cesarean section under spinal anesthesia: A CONSORT-compliant article.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown the efficacy of norepinephrine in the treatment of maternal hypotension during cesarean section by comparing it to treatment with phenylephrine. However, few studies have compared the efficacy of norepinephrine to ephedrine. METHODS: Ninety-seven women undergoing elective cesarean section were administered norepinephrine at 4 μg/minute (group N; n = 48) or ephedrine at 4 mg/minute (group E; n = 49) immediately postspinal anesthesia, with an on-off titration to maintain systolic blood pressure (SBP) at 80% to 120% of baseline. A rescue bolus of 8 μg norepinephrin

Short-term infusion of GDF11 after SCI attenuates pericytes loss and BSCB damage to promote recovery of spinal cord function.

To investigate the role of GDF11 in acute neural trauma, this study focused on the effects of GDF11 on pericytes and the blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB) following spinal cord injury (SCI). We established a mouse SCI model and administered GDF11 infusion for three consecutive days. Spinal cord samples were collected early after injury, and the integrity of the BSCB was evaluated using pathomorphological analysis, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and transmission electron microscopy. The results demonstrated that GDF11 infusion significantly reduced BSCB damage at 7 days post-SCI, as evide

The Effect of Postoperative Single-Injection Adductor Canal Block in Total Knee Arthroplasty Under Spinal Anesthesia With Intraoperative Dexmedetomidine Infusion.

BACKGROUND: Single-injection adductor canal block (SACB) is one of the multimodal pain managements in total knee arthroplasty. The effect of an intrathecal local anesthetic is prolonged with an intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion. Currently, SACB's effect along with the prolonged spinal anesthesia effect by dexmedetomidine has not been studied elsewhere. METHODS: Seventy-eight patients were randomized to either the SACB group (n = 39) or the control group (n = 39). Spinal anesthesia and continuous infusion of dexmedetomidine were performed intraoperatively. The SACB was performed using 15

Standardized human bone marrow-derived stem cells infusion improves survival and recovery in a rat model of spinal cord injury.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is an incurable disorder with an unmet need of an effective treatment. Recently, autologous human bone marrow-derived stem cells have shown to promote functional improvement, due to their anti-inflammatory and regenerative/apocrine properties. In this study, the primary objective was to test whether a single intrathecal injection with a 100 μL suspension of 400,000 fresh human bone marrow-derived CD34+ and an equal number of CD105+ stem cells (Neuro-Cells (NC)), one day after balloon-compression of the spinal cord, improves motor function and reduces secondary damage i

Is ephedrine infusion more effective at preventing hypotension than traditional prehydration during spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section in African parturients?

BACKGROUND: Hypotension following spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section may result in maternal nausea and vomiting and decreased uteroplacental blood flow with possible fetal acidaemia. Numerous methods have been tried to minimise hypotension. In developing countries where resources are limited, this study aimed to compare a standard infusion of ephedrine with traditional prehydration to prevent spinal hypotension. METHOD: Sixty patients for elective caesarean section were randomly allocated to group 1: 1 L 0.9% saline before spinal block, and group 2: infusion of ephedrine 30 mg in 1 L of

The Effect of Prophylactic Infusion of Combined Ephedrin and Phenylephrine on Maternal Hemodynamic after Spinal Anesthesia for Cesarean Section: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

UNLABELLED: Several techniques have been proposed to prevent hypotension in obstetric patients. Ephedrine and phenylephrine are individually used to prevent maternal hypotension; however, each has its own drawbacks. Some researchers have reported that the infusion of combined ephedrine and phenylephrine immediately after spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery reduces the incidence of maternal hypotension. Other studies have indicated that the combination is not superior to the infusion of an individual agent. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of prophylactic infusion of ephedrine
