OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the possibility that latex antigens (natural rubber) can contribute to or cause local sensitivity at insulin injection sites.
CASE: A subject with documented local cutaneous allergic reactions at the site of insulin injections and with systemic latex allergy manifested as anaphylaxis was tested with intradermal injections of insulin diluent from two manufacturers and with two brands of insulin syringes.

Glatiramer acetate (GA) is a synthetic amino acid polymer, used for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Localized herpes simplex (HSV) type II following intra-articular corticosteroid injection is remarkable. We describe a 51-year-old woman with sacroiliitis following a fall. She was treated with an intra-articular injection of 80 mg methylprednisolone into her sacroiliac joint, followed 2 days later by a cluster of herpetiform vesicles adjacent to the injection site. Swab of punctured vesicles demonstrated HSV type II by polymerase chain reaction. One plausible explanation is HSV reactivation secondary to localized immunosuppression from corticosteroid injection.

Skin reaction may develop at the site of vaccine administration. A 54-year-old woman who developed a cellular blue nevus at the site of the combined tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine injection four years prior to presentation is described. In addition to blue nevus, other reactions at combined tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis vaccine injection sites include abscess, deep reactive nodular infiltrates of mixed inflammation, and necrotizing granuloma. In conclusion, blue nevus can be added to the list of cutaneous events that can occur at Tdap vaccination sites.
