Intra-Articular Injection of BPC 157 for Multiple Types of Knee Pain.

INTRODUCTION: Knee pain, a common complaint in primary care, has many causes, the most common of which is osteoarthritis (OA). Other common causes are meniscus tears, tendinosis, ligament tears or sprains, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and septic arthritis. Also, referred pain from hip joint pathology like slipped capital femoral epiphysis can result in knee pain.1 The use of peptides BPC157 and thymosin-beta-4 (TB4) has not been studied in the treatment of knee pain. METHODS: A retrospective study was done at the Institute for Hormonal Balance in Orlando, Florida, USA to see whether intra-arti

Intra-articular Corticosteroid Injection Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: Is It Effective?

BACKGROUND: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for the majority of patients with severe knee osteoarthritis provides relief of symptoms and improved function. However, there remains a subset of dissatisfied patients despite an unremarkable workup. A corticosteroid injection (CSI) is a commonly used nonsurgical treatment for painful knee osteoarthritis but its efficacy in a replaced knee remains unknown. METHODS: A retrospective chart review identified primary TKA patients who subsequently received a CSI into a replaced knee from 2015 to 2016 by a single surgeon. Patients receiving a CSI underwent

Intra-articular Injection of Urinary Bladder Matrix Reduces Osteoarthritis Development.

Micronized porcine urinary bladder matrix (UBM) is an extracellular matrix biomaterial that has immunomodulatory and pro-regenerative properties. The objective of this study was to assess the ability of UBM to alter disease progression in a mouse model of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (OA). Ten-week-old wild-type C57BL/6 male mice underwent anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) to induce OA. Two weeks after ACLT, UBM (50 mg/mL) or saline was injected into the mouse joint. At 4 and 8 weeks post-ACLT, cartilage integrity was assessed using OARSI scoring of histology, pain was evaluated,

Intra-articular injection composed of steroid, iohexol and local anaesthetic: is it stable?

The aim of this study is to determine the chemical stability of a suspension of steroid, radiographic contrast material and local anaesthetic. Image-guided steroid injection using a contrast material is widely used for several musculoskeletal conditions. Manufacturers of these agents do not advise mixture in a single syringe, as the chemical stability is unknown. They suggest that, if required, these agents should be injected separately. However, the agents will be mixed together when injected into a contained space within the body. It would seem unethical to continue this in clinical practice

Cutaneous adverse reactions after intra-articular injection of triamcinolone acetonide.

A patient is described with a disseminated morbilliform and partially persistent urticarial dermatitis following intra-articular injections of triamcinolone acetonide. A delayed-type hypersensitivity to triamcinolone acetonide was observed after patch and intradermal testing. However, an immediate-type hypersensitivity to this drug was not observed. A delayed-type sensitization to betamethasone, dexamethasone and prednisolone, but not to hydrocortisone was also observed after patch testing. Intradermal tests with these representatives of corticosteroids were all negative. Although little is kn

Outcomes of intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee.

BACKGROUND: Intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid has become an intervention step between conservative and operative treatment of knee osteoarthritis. This is recommended by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR). However, the expected outcomes and the selection criteria are undetermined and controversial. A few articles have mentioned the long-term result of Sodium Hyaluronate in failed conservative treatment. OBJECTIVE: Determine the clinical outcomes of treatment with three intra-articular Sodium Hyaluronate injections (500-730

Arthrography-assisted intra-articular injection of steroids in treatment of adhesive capsulitis.

Following shoulder arthrography to establish the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis, we injected steroids via the in situ arthrogram needle. Subsequent intraarticular steroids, if needed, were given at the outpatient clinic using landmarks established at the time of arthrography. Out of 18 patients treated, function sufficient to permit resumption of usual work and self-care activities returned to 16. In 11 patients, recovery was associated with painless total shoulder movement gather than a return to glenohumeral motion. This therapy appears perferable to other forms of intraarticular injection
