Treatment of rosacea with herbal ingredients.

Since rosacea is a chronic disease and many patients find prescription therapies unsatisfactory, they frequently turn to herbal ingredients for relief of their persistent facial redness. The most useful and frequently used herbal compounds include licorice, feverfew, green tea, oatmeal, lavender, chamomile, tea tree oil, and camphor oil. The utility of most of these herbs is based on their purported anti-inflammatory properties. Some of these herbs have proven effects, many have potential benefits, and some may aggravate rosacea. Due to the fact that many patients fail to inform their physicia

Seed priming with lavender essential oil increases germination and seedling growth in saline and potentially toxic elements-contaminated soils.

BACKGROUND: Seed priming with natural compounds has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance plant tolerance to abiotic stresses. Among these, essential oils may mitigate the adverse effects of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and salinity on seed germination and early growth. This study aimed to investigate the priming effects of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. essential oil on germination and seedling development of 3 Mediterranean aromatic species: Achillea millefolium L., Ocimum basilicum L., and Thymus vulgaris L. METHODS: Priming treatments were performed using different essential oil c

Enhancing Antioxidant and Storage Stability of Upcycled Fruit Bars Through NADES-Based Lavender Extract Addition.

This study investigated the development of upcycled functional fruit bars based on dates or figs and grape pomace, enriched with a lavender extract obtained using a novel multicomponent natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). Supplementation with the NADES-based lavender extract significantly increased the total polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity, while improving the retention of total polyphenols during storage by approximately 10.3% in date-based bars and 2.8% in fig-based bars. The NADES-based lavender extract also reduced the percentage of yeast- and mold-positive samples from 60%

Lavender: phytochemistry, pharmacology, cross-disciplinary applications, and clinical efficacy.

BACKGROUND: Lavender, belongs to the genus Lavandula of the Lamiaceae family, is a "medicinal and edible homologous" plant with medicinal and economic value, widely cultivated worldwide. Traditionally used for relieving emotions, sedation, and hypnosis, modern research has long focused on the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of its essential oil. However, the exploration of non-volatile components and utilization of by-products remains insufficient, lacking a systematic integration of interdisciplinary research. PURPOSE: This review systematically identifies recent research o

Anticholinergic syndrome and supraventricular tachycardia caused by lavender tea toxicity.

Lavender plants have been used for their cosmetic and biologic benefits for many centries. Extracts from Lavandula plants have been found to cause antimuscarinic effects by blocking sodium and calcium ion channels in in vitro and in vivo studies. We present a case of poisoning by ingestion of tea made from Lavender stoechas ( grass). The patient was admitted to our emergency department with supraventricular tachycardia due to anticholinergic syndrome triggered by drinking lavender tea. On electrocardiography, a narrow QRS complex tachycardia was evident. After carotid sinus massage, the patien

Efficient Solketal Synthesis via Acetalization Using Sulfonated Carbon From Lavender Leaf Waste After Essential Oil Extraction.

Biomass-based catalyst research is advantageous for the biodiesel industry's sustainability due to the catalysts' readily available raw materials, nontoxic properties, and biodegradability. In this study, sulfonated carbon catalysts were synthesized from lavender biomass residue, obtained after essential oil extraction, through hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) followed by in situ sulfonation, and applied in the acetalization of glycerol with acetone to produce solketal, a bio-based fuel additive. To the best of our knowledge, this type of residue has not yet been explored for this specific app

Consensus-based guideline for the supportive anthroposophic therapies to treat children with pseudocroup (stenosing laryngotracheitis).

PURPOSE: Supportive anthroposophic therapies are used to treat children with pseudocroup by pediatricians in outpatient and inpatient settings. Anthroposophic treatment comprises forms of creative therapies, external applications as well as remedies, which production is based on the knowledge of the human being, nature and substances. A scientifically based guideline for these therapies is lacking. Due to insufficient study situation, we developed a consensus-based guideline to make therapy decisions more transparent and facilitate clinical routine. METHODS: An online Delphi process with 67 a

Prepubertal gynecomastia and chronic lavender exposure: report of three cases.

INTRODUCTION: Prepubertal gynecomastia is a rare condition characterized by the growth of breast tissue in males as a consequence of early exposure to sexual hormones. When this condition is present, pathological sources of testosterone/estrogen production, such as adrenal or gonadal tumors must be searched for. A few reports have described an association between gynecomastia and substances that produce stimulation of the estrogen receptor, such as lavender and tea tree oil. METHODS: Here we describe the cases of three boys who presented with prepubertal gynecomastia and were chronically expo

Synthesis, Modification, and Comprehensive Characterization of Lavender-Derived Activated Carbon for Adsorptive Removal of Pharmaceutical Pollutant.

Pharmaceutical contaminants in aquatic environments require sustainable and efficient treatment strategies, while biomass residues provide promising renewable precursors for adsorbent production. In this study, lavender residue generated after essential oil extraction was valorized as a precursor for porous activated carbon through ZnCl2 impregnation followed by chemical activation under N2 at 550°C, 650°C, and 750°C. Structural and morphological analyses confirmed the progressive transformation of the lignocellulosic precursor into a porous carbonaceous structure, while nitrogen adsorption-de

Bioactive Constituents and Pharmacological Properties of Lavender Essential Oil: Molecular Mechanisms, Current Evidence, and Future Perspectives.

Lavender essential oil (LEO) possesses broad therapeutic potential, yet translating empirical knowledge into evidence-based medicine is hindered by the descriptive literature that conflates isolated monoterpene mechanisms with whole-oil efficacy. Addressing these critical shortcomings, this review presents a target-centric synthesis that explicitly delineates the molecular pathways of pure constituents (e.g., linalool, linalyl acetate) versus intact LEO matrices and standardized oral preparations (Silexan™). We systematically integrate LEO's multi-target signaling networks across neuroregulato

In vitro evaluation of the susceptibility of Echinococcus granulosus hydatid cysts to lavender and green tea extracts.

Chemotherapy, used to treat hydatid cysts, can cause problems due to various side effects. Consequently, there is growing interest in non-chemical alternatives, such as medicinal plant extracts, as potential new treatments for hydatid cysts. This study investigated the protoscolicidal activity of green tea (Camellia sinensis) and lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) extracts at different concentrations and exposure times under laboratory conditions. Protoscolices were collected aseptically from the liver of sheep infected with hydatid cysts and exposed to three concentrations of C. sinensis and L
