C. sculpturatus sera agglutinate human erythrocytes independently of the ABO blood group, enzyme treatment, incubation temperature or sex of the scorpions. Tested with human lymphocytes and reptile and bird erythrocytes, C. sculpturatus serum reacts like an anti-sialic acid agglutinin. Bartonella quintana has been reported as the cause of trench fever, persistent endocarditis, bacteriaemia and has been isolated with an increasing incidence in clinical specimens from AIDS patients. Studies of the human skin microbiome suggest that Propionibacterium acnes strains may contribute differently to skin health and disease. AIM: To evaluate the clinical significance of the quantitative determinations of endotoxins in the expressed prostatic secretions (EPS) of chronic prostatitis (CP) patients.
METHODS: The EPS of 45 patients with CP and 15 normal volunteers were obtained for microscopic examination, bacterial culture and endotoxin determination. The level of endotoxins was determined by the Limulus-amebocyte-lysate test with chromogenic substrate.

Thrombocytopenia frequently complicates neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and has been postulated to result from absorption of bacterial endotoxins from the injured gut.
