Single metastasis of myxoid liposarcoma from the thigh to thyroid gland: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Thyroid metastasis of soft tissue sarcoma is very rare, and the diagnosis is especially difficult when only a single lesion is present. CASE PRESENTATION: A 50-year-old man was diagnosed with myxoid liposarcoma of the right thigh and treated with wide resection. Two and a half years after the surgery, a growing low-density area was incidentally observed in the right lobe of his thyroid gland on follow-up chest computed tomography. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed twice, and the thyroid mass was suspected of being a sarcoma metastasis. He was treated by hemithyroidectomy

[Anterior Mediastinal Myxoid Liposarcoma Detected by Chest Computed Tomogram in the Patient with Pneumothorax].

A 57-year-old woman visited our hospital with left chest pain. Chest computed tomography (CT) scanning showed left pneumothorax with apical bullae and a nodular shadow in the left anterior mediastinum accidentally. However, a week later, we could not detect a mediastinal shadow on chest CT image after healing of left pneumothorax. Video assisted thoracoscopic surgery was scheduled in order to remove bullae and evaluate an anterior mediastinal lesion. The mediastinal lesion was tumorous and resected with around pericardial fat tissue. Pathological diagnosis was a myxoid liposarcoma of 15×10mm i

Paratesticular dedifferentiated liposarcoma with prominent myxoid stroma: report of a case and review of the literature.

Paratesticular sarcoma is rare, but liposarcoma is its most common type. Paratesticular liposarcoma sometimes presents as dedifferentiated liposarcoma. Both high-grade and low-grade dedifferentiation have been reported. Herein, we presented a unique case of a 64-year-old man with low-grade dedifferentiated liposarcoma with prominent myxoid stroma. Well-differentiated liposarcoma components extended along the spermatic cord. The constituent cells of the dedifferentiated component were peculiar in that, they were relatively uniform cells with atypia and did not have pleomorphism to such an exten

Well-differentiated and dedifferentiated liposarcomas with prominent myxoid stroma: analysis of 56 cases.

AIMS: Occasional cases of well-differentiated and dedifferentiated liposarcoma (LPS) contain myxoid stroma, leading to confusion with other sarcomas. The aim of this study was to analyse the clinicopathological and genetic features of well-differentiated/dedifferentiated LPS with prominent myxoid stroma. METHODS AND RESULTS: Fifty-six cases of LPS (22 well-differentiated; 34 dedifferentiated) with prominent myxoid stroma were evaluated. Most arose in the retroperitoneum, abdominal cavity, or spermatic cord. The mean size was 170 mm. Myxoid LPS-like plexiform vessels were conspicuous in 11 cas

Myxoid liposarcoma: a case report of a sentinel metastasis to the parotid gland with molecular confirmation.

Myxoid liposarcoma is a subtype of liposarcoma with a predilection for the deep soft tissues of the extremities that accounts approximately for 10% of all adult soft tissue sarcomas. We report a case of a metastatic myxoid liposarcoma to the parotid gland, with fine-needle aspiration cytology correlation and molecular characterization. The lesion was diagnosed in a 53-year-old Hispanic male who presented with a left posterior thigh mass. A core needle biopsy established the diagnosis of myxoid liposarcoma. The patient underwent limb-sparing, wide local excision of the malignancy and later pres

Laparoscopic resection of a metastatic myxoid liposarcoma in the mesentery of the small intestine: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Myxoid liposarcoma (MLS), with its risk factors, tends to spread to the lungs and extraperitoneally, with intraperitoneal metastases occurring rarely. We present an unusual case of a myxoid liposarcoma that metastasized to the abdominal organs. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old female patient was referred to our hospital for the evaluation of a right upper limb tumor that had been growing for 7 years. The patient refused surgery, and during follow-up, tumor hemorrhage resulted in hemorrhagic shock. The patient's right upper limb was immediately amputated. MLS was diagnosed histopat

Metastatic myxoid liposarcoma in the mesentery: what is debated? Case report and a review of the literature.

Myxoid liposarcoma, unlike other types of liposarcoma, has an unusual propensity to metastasize to extrapulmonary sites including the abdominal cavity. Metastatic myxoid liposarcoma is an important condition because it may indicate distant micrometastatic disease. We report the case of a 47-year-old woman with a metastatic myxoid liposarcoma in the mesentery. Surgical excision with a tumor-free margin was achieved, but cardiac and liver metastases developed. We review the available literature and discuss what is still debated about this disease.

Vulvar Myxoid Liposarcoma and Well Differentiated Liposarcoma With Molecular Cytogenetic Confirmation: Case Reports With Review of Malignant Lipomatous Tumors of the Vulva.

Malignant lipomatous tumors of the vulva are uncommon. We present 2 cases of liposarcoma arising in the vulva: a myxoid liposarcoma harboring DDIT3 and FUS rearrangements and a well differentiated liposarcoma/atypical lipomatous tumor harboring MDM2 amplification detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization. Both cases are the first liposarcomas of this site to be confirmed by molecular cytogenetic analysis. We also review the literature's cases of liposarcoma to further examine the clinicopathologic features of these tumors.

Nuclear grading of myxoid liposarcoma robustly predicts patient outcome: a study of 280 patients.

Myxoid liposarcoma (MLPS) exhibits variable morphology and clinical behavior. Current grading systems, which rely on the proportion of round cell areas, were developed for resections, rather than core biopsies. Additionally, criteria for round cell and "transitional" areas are subjective/poorly reproducible. It has recently been suggested that nuclear grading may be superior to traditional grading in predicting the behavior of MLPS. We compared nuclear and cellularity-based grading in a large, multinational MLPS cohort. 280 MLPS (1990-2025) were reviewed; nuclear grade was assigned using a sli

Atypical Lipomatous Tumor/Well-Differentiated Liposarcoma with Myxoid Stroma in a Hereditary Retinoblastoma Survivor.

Atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDL) is an indolent, locally aggressive mesenchymal neoplasm, most often confined to the lower extremities and retroperitoneum and rarely identified in the orbit. Diagnosis of ALT/WDL can be challenging due to its frequent morphologic overlap with benign adipose lesions and other more aggressive liposarcoma subtypes, including myxoid liposarcoma. We describe a 26-year-old female with a history of hereditary retinoblastoma and external-beam radiotherapy to the orbit, who developed orbital liposarcoma. Although initial morphologic as

Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma-a clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, molecular genetic and epigenetic study of 12 cases, suggesting a possible relationship with conventional pleomorphic liposarcoma.

Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma is a recently defined subtype of liposarcoma, which preferentially involves the mediastinum of young patients and shows mixed histological features of conventional myxoid liposarcoma and pleomorphic liposarcoma. While myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma is known to lack the EWSR1/FUS-DDIT3 fusions characteristic of the former, additional genetic data are limited. To further understand this tumor type, we extensively examined a series of myxoid pleomorphic liposarcomas by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), shallow whole genome sequencing (sWGS) and genome-wide

The pathological significance of DNA damage-inducible transcript 3 immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of myxoid liposarcoma.

BACKGROUND: Myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) is a distinct subtype of liposarcoma characterised by recurrent FUS-DDIT3 or EWSR1-DDIT3 gene fusions and distinctive histological features. DNA damage-inducible transcript 3 (DDIT3) is a key downstream mediator of these fusions and contributes to sarcoma development by disrupting adipocytic differentiation. In this study, we assessed the diagnostic value and biological relevance of DDIT3 by combining immunohistochemistry (IHC) with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). METHODS: The study included 128 soft tissue tumours, comprising 4

Limb Salvage in Myxoid Liposarcoma With Tumor Prosthetic Reconstruction: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Myxoid liposarcoma (MLPS) is the second most common histological subtype of liposarcoma and typically affects the deep soft tissues of the lower extremities. Although local recurrence rates are relatively low, delayed recurrence and metastatic disease may occur years after initial treatment. Pathologic fractures associated with extensive femoral involvement are uncommon and represent a major reconstructive challenge. We present the case of a 62-year-old female with a history of right proximal femoral MLPS treated with radiotherapy 12 years earlier who presented with progressive right hip pain
