Membrane-Disruption-Enhanced Synergistic Antimicrobial Action of Essential Oils and ε-Polylysine for Targeted Inhibition of Spoilage Yeasts in Blue Honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea L.).

The spoilage of blue honeysuckle during storage is mainly caused by specific dominant microorganisms, while most antimicrobial systems are developed without considering these target spoilage species. In this study, dominant spoilage yeasts were isolated from blue honeysuckle berries, and an antimicrobial system was constructed using these yeasts, along with common foodborne bacteria as target strains. The results showed that the antimicrobial system exhibited significant synergistic antimicrobial activity. Further analysis indicated that the essential oils disrupted the cell membrane structure

Intestinal Absorption Characteristics and Reciprocal Interactions of Forsythiae Fructus and Lonicerae Japonicae Flos-Containing Chinese Herbal Formulation with Human Gut Microbiome.

The intestinal absorption of active herbal constituents plays an important role in the biomedical efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulations after oral administration. TCM compounds with low oral bioavailability can reach the distal intestine and then interact with intestinal flora, influencing the botanical pharmacological effects. In this study, in vitro digestion and an ex vivo Ussing chamber model were utilized to evaluate the intestinal absorption behavior of Forsythiae Fructus-Lonicerae Japonicae Flos-containing Yinqiao Jiedu Granule (YQJDG). It was found that the jejunu

A TCM formula comprising Sophorae Flos and Lonicerae Japonicae Flos alters compositions of immune cells and molecules of the STAT3 pathway in melanoma microenvironment.

A traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula (SL) comprising Sophorae Flos and Lonicerae Japonicae Flos was used for treating melanoma in ancient China. We have previously shown that an ethanolic extract of SL (SLE) possesses anti-melanoma effects and suppresses STAT3 signaling in vitro and in vivo. STAT3 has been linked to the development of melanoma immunosuppressive microenvironment. In this work, we investigated whether SLE inhibits melanoma growth by reprogramming the tumor microenvironment in mouse and co-culture cell models. In B16F10 melanoma-bearing mice, we found that intragastric ad
