Pelvic Floor Myofascial Pain With Palpation and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.

IMPORTANCE: In women with pelvic floor disorders, pelvic floor myofascial pain with palpation is associated with lower urinary tract symptoms, but the prevalence in community-dwelling women is unknown. OBJECTIVES: Our study describes the prevalence of pelvic pain with palpation in community-dwelling women and its association with bladder health and symptoms. STUDY DESIGN: A subset of adult women from a large population-based, regionally representative cohort across 8 geographic regions of the United States was examined for pain with palpation of the obturator internus and levator ani muscles

Straining to Pass Urine in Men with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.

Straining to void is widely regarded as a clinical indicator of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) in men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). However, the physiological significance of this behaviour remains poorly understood. This review examines the role of straining during the voiding cycle and evaluates current evidence regarding its relationship with BOO. Straining represents a voluntary increase in intra-abdominal pressure that may occur at different stages of micturition. Studies comparing patient-reported straining with urodynamic findings demonstrate poor correlation, and the prev

Occupation History, Job Strain, and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Among Men.

OBJECTIVES: Work environments have received little attention as a potential determinant of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). A small literature among women, and an even smaller literature among men, suggests that occupations with manual labor demands are associated with greater likelihood of experiencing LUTS. Job strain, defined as low decision latitude in combination with high psychological demands, was found not to be associated with LUTS in one sample of women. Associations of occupation and job strain with LUTS among men were examined using Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adu

Sleep Health and Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: A Systematic Review.

PURPOSE: Emerging evidence suggests a close relationship between sleep health and female lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). However, available studies have focused on individual sleep disorders or specific urinary symptoms, and no systematic review has comprehensively evaluated this association in women. METHODS: A systematic literature search of PubMed/MEDLINE was conducted to identify studies published between January 2020 and July 2026 investigating the association between sleep-related factors and female LUTS. Eligible studies evaluated adult women with one or more sleep disorders or sl

Lower urinary tract symptoms are elevated with depression in Japanese women.

OBJECTIVES: Depression might worsen lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), but the correlation is still disputed. This study examined the influence of depression on LUTS in Japanese women. METHODS: This study used a web-based questionnaire to evaluate the mental status of depression and LUTS. The mental status of depression was evaluated using the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology-Japanese version (QIDS-J), and LUTS was assessed based on the Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS) and responses to the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form. RESULTS: A t

Psychosocial Factors Associated with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms One Year Postpartum.

Pregnancy carries substantial risk for developing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs), with potential lifelong impacts on bladder health. Little is known about modifiable psychosocial factors that may influence the risk of postpartum LUTSs. We examined associations between depressive symptoms, perceived stress, and postpartum LUTSs, and the moderating effects of perceived social support, using data from a cohort study of Expect With Me group prenatal care (n = 462). One year postpartum, 40.3% participants reported one or more LUTS. The most frequent LUTS was daytime frequency (22.3%), followe

Connection between traumatic frontal intracerebral hemorrhage and lower urinary tract symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: There have been no previous studies of urinary symptoms in patients with traumatic frontal intracerebral hemorrhage. The purpose of this work was to provide first insights into the potential role of traumatic frontal intracerebral hemorrhage in the development of urinary symptoms. This condition is known to cause compression in and around the prefrontal cortex, and we wanted to examine its effect on the micturition center. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with voiding dysfunction (n = 176) were assessed for lower urinary tract symptoms using the International Prostate Symptom Score (

Pelvic epidermoid cyst: A rare cause of lower urinary tract symptoms.

Pelvic retroperitoneum is a bizarre location of an epidermoid cyst and obstructive voiding caused by it even being stranger. Voiding symptoms related to such an abnormal location of cyst are extremely rare and literature that taps into such cases is scarce. We are presenting here a case of 26-year-old man who was presented with obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms and chronic constipation. On evaluation, he was found to have well-defined cyst in pelvic retroperitoneum. Complete excision of the cyst was done; histopathology confirmed it as an epidermoid cyst. His symptoms were completely re

[Novel minimally invasive treatment options for male lower urinary tract symptoms].

The main objective of novel minimally invasive treatment options is to be equally effective to current reference techniques while providing a superior safety profile. Especially the preservation of sexual function, including ejaculatory function, is of great interest to patients facing surgical treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Ideally, a truly minimally invasive procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia in an outpatient setting. Among emerging medical devices, the prostatic urethral lift (PUL; Urolift) demonstrated rapid and durable relief of LUTS in selected patients

C-reactive protein levels in girls with lower urinary tract symptoms.

INTRODUCTION: Daytime lower urinary tract (LUT) conditions are identified as daytime incontinence problems for children in whom any cause of neuropathy and uropathy has been excluded. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a common marker of acute or chronic inflammation and infection. Increased CRP levels have been detected in the studies conducted on adults diagnosed with overactive bladders and interstitial cystitis. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the role of serum CRP levels in girls suffering from daytime LUT conditions. STUDY DESIGN: Out of the 752 patients who presented to the outpat

Verumontanum Cyst Associated With Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in an Adolescent.

Urinary tract polyps occur anywhere from the renal pelvis to the anterior urethra. Lower tract polyps occur less frequently than upper tract polyps and are a rare finding in children. Symptoms include obstruction, dysfunctional voiding, or hematuria. We report the case of a 17-year-old male who presented with persistent leakage of urine following voiding. Ultrasound demonstrated a small cystic lesion in the posterior aspect of the prostate and a voiding cystourethrogram was suggestive of a utricular cyst or polyp. He underwent a cystoscopy that demonstrated a large cystic structure originating

The influence of skull base chordoma on lower urinary tract symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: To provide the first insights into the potential role of skull base chordoma, which causes brainstem compression in and around Barrington's nucleus and its effect on the micturition center. Chordoma is a rare malignant bone tumor that originates from the remnants of the embryonic notochord, which normally forms and dissolves during early fetal development. Although it is a slowly growing tumor, it displays local invasive growth. METHODS: Urodynamic testing of 22 symptomatic patients was performed. All women and men with skull base chordoma treated in 2 hospitals in Germany between
