The impact of the absolute number and ratio of positive lymph nodes on survival of endometrioid uterine cancer patients.

The number of clinical trials using human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC)-both embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells (hESC/iPSC)-has expanded in the last several years beyond expectations. By the end of 2021, a total of 90 trials had been registered in 13 countries with more than 3000 participants. However, only US, Japan, China, and the UK are conducting both hESC- and hiPSC-based trials. Together US, Japan, and China have registered 78% (70 out of 90) of all trials worldwide. More than half of all trials (51%) are focused on the treatment of degenerative eye diseases and malignancies, e

Prognostic significance of lymph node ratio in patients with endometrial cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The ratio of harvested lymph nodes to the number of metastatic nodes is known as the lymph node ratio (LNR) and its prognostic significance was investigated in many types of cancer. OBJECTIVES: However, until now, the therapeutic role of lymphadenectomy in the management of endometrial cancer (EC) has remained controversial. SEARCH STRATEGY: The search strategy involved the Medline, Scopus, Clinicaltrials.gov, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials CENTRAL, and Google Scholar databases. SELECTION CRITERIA: We included prospective and retrospective observational studies.

Relation of squamous differentiation in endometrioid carcinoma with MELF pattern to a high ratio of lymph node metastasis.

One of the known histological patterns of endometrioid carcinoma (EC) in uterine corpus cancer is MELF (microcystic, elongated, and fragmented). MELF is associated with lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastasis. Besides MELF, it is also known that squamous differentiation (SD) often occurs in EC. SD is known to be no significant difference in the frequency of lymph node metastasis in EC. However, there have been no previous reports on the association between MELF and SD. In this research, we investigated the presence of SD in MELF using an antibody to CK5. We examined 28 cases of EC wi

The clinical significance of the lymph node ratio as a recurrence indicator in ampullary cancer after curative pancreaticoduodenectomy.

BACKGROUND: The clinical significance of the lymph node ratio (LNR), the number of metastatic lymph nodes per dissected lymph node, has not been sufficiently clarified in ampullary cancer. METHODS: Among patients diagnosed histopathologically with ampullary cancer between 1980 and 2018, the study included 106 who underwent pathological radical resection by pancreaticoduodenectomy. The relationships between the LNR and metastatic lymph node sites and prognosis were examined. RESULTS: Multivariate analysis revealed that sex and lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors. In the

Lymph node ratio as a prognostic factor for survival in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to validate the concept of lymph node ratio (LNR) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). METHODS: A total of 63 patients with HNSCC who underwent resection of the primary tumor combined with neck dissection in our institution were analyzed in this study. LNR was defined as the number of positive lymph nodes divided by the total number of lymph nodes excised. LNR was categorized into two groups (<0.068 and ≥0.068) according to the results of receiver-operating characteristic plots for determination of the cut-off value. RESULTS: LNR≥0.068 was

Prognostic value of lymph node ratio for locoregional failure in patients with advanced head and neck cancers.

BACKGROUND: In the current study, the utility of lymph node ratio (LNR) was evaluated as an alternative method for predicting locoregional failure in patients with advanced head and neck cancer. METHODS: Fifty-six patients with oral and (pharyngo)laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma were included. Among those, 48 were males and 8 females, with a mean age of 58 years. The primary tumor was located in the oral cavity in 16 cases, involved the larynx in 17 cases and the hypopharynx in 23 cases. All the tumors were staged T4. We carried out 112 neck dissections. All the lymph nodes harvested from th

Prognostic Impact of Lymph Node Ratio in Patients With Gastric Cancer Undergoing Curative Gastrectomy Post Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The lymph node ratio (LNR), defined as the ratio of metastatic to examined lymph nodes, is a prognostic indicator in gastric cancer after curative gastrectomy. However, in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), the absolute number of metastatic lymph nodes may decrease. Moreover, the N-stage classification after this (ypN) alone may not fully reflect residual nodal disease. We evaluated whether LNR-based stratification offers improved prognostic discrimination compared with ypN classification, using survival analysis together with time-dependent receiver operating characte

Optimizing Mediastinal Lymph Node Dissection by Integrating Tumour Location, Consolidation Tumour Ratio, and Size for Lung Cancer.

OBJECTIVES: Several mediastinal lymph node dissection strategies have been proposed for non-small-cell lung cancer based on prognostic analysis. However, as the lymph metastatic pattern of non-small-cell lung cancer has not been fully revealed, there are still needs for optimization of lymph node management. METHODS: Data on 7067 invasive non-small-cell lung cancer patients who underwent pulmonary resection with systematic lymph node dissection were retrospectively analysed. The tumour size, location, and consolidation tumour ratio (CTR) were identified with computed tomography scans. Other c

Lymph node response ratio complements tumor regression grade in prognostic stratification after neoadjuvant therapy for gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND: Tumor regression grade (TRG) is widely used to evaluate pathological response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC), but it may not adequately reflect nodal response. We investigated the prognostic value of the lymph node response ratio (LNRR), a novel indicator of nodal response, and its complementary role to TRG. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 505 patients with clinically node-positive LAGC who underwent NAC followed by curative gastrectomy. LNRR was defined as the relative change between pretreatment clinically positive lymph node

Development of a prognostic model based on positive lymph node ratio for yp stage III colorectal cancer.

For locally advanced rectal cancer and potentially resectable T4bM0 colon cancer, neoadjuvant therapy improves remission rates and resectability. However, conventional TNM staging often fails to predict prognosis in ypIII CRC patient's post-neoadjuvant therapy due to lymph node regression (particularly when < 12 nodes are detected). We evaluated the prognostic value of positive lymph node ratio (LNR) in this cohort.Retrospective analysis of 489 ypIII CRC patients treated with neoadjuvant therapy and radical surgery (2008-2018). Optimal LNR cutoff for disease-free survival (DFS) was determined

SRRN: A regional lymph node ratio-based staging system enhancing prognostic accuracy in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) carries a poor prognosis, with lymph node status being a critical determinant. Traditional N staging and the lymph node ratio (LNR), which rely solely on the number of positive lymph nodes, may lack precision. This study proposes a novel staging system based on the sum of regional lymph node ratios (SRRN) to enhance prognostic assessment. METHODS: In this single-center, retrospective cohort study, we retrospectively analyzed 1208 ESCC patients who underwent radical resection at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital between 2010 and 2020

A high positive lymph node ratio is associated with distant recurrence after surgical resection of ampullary carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: For ampullary carcinoma (AC), the lymph node ratio (LNR) has been associated with overall survival. However, the use of the LNR to predict distant recurrence risk remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine if the LNR is associated with distant recurrence risk. METHODS: One hundred forty three patients with AC who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy between 1989 and 2011 were identified from a single-institution prospective database. Data on clinicopathologic factors and recurrence were analyzed. RESULTS: At a median follow-up of 43 months (62 months for survivors),

Diagnostic Performance of Tumor-to-Lymph Node SUVmax Ratio in PET/CT-Guided EBUS-TBNA for NSCLC.

BACKGROUND: Accurate evaluation of mediastinal and hilar lymph node (LN) is essential in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) management. While PET/CT plays a central role, SUVmax alone is limited by false positives and false negatives. The tumor-to-lymph node SUVmax (T/LN SUVmax) ratio may improve diagnostic accuracy by contextualizing nodal uptake relative to the primary tumor. METHODS: This retrospective single-center study analyzed 2469 LNs from 1408 NSCLC patients who underwent both PET/CT and EBUS-TBNA between 2010 and 2021.
