BACKGROUND: Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a relatively rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in children constituting 10-15% of this entity. To the authors' knowledge, there are no population-based pediatric studies in the literature, and incidence estimates have not been attempted.
METHODS: A population-based study of all children in British Columbia, Canada, younger than 15 years of age presenting between January 1988 and December 1999 with an immunohistologically confirmed diagnosis of CD30+ ALCL was completed. Demographic, ethnic, clinical, treatment, and outcome details were

Anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a lymphoproliferative disorder that frequently presents with disseminated disease and extranodal involvement. Rare atypical cells have been detected in the peripheral blood in occasional cases. However, the presence of a prominent leukemic phase is extremely rare in these patients. We describe a patient with a small-cell variant of ALCL of T-cell phenotype, ALK-1 positive, who developed a rapid leukemic phase in association with the progression of the disease. Similar to the nodal biopsy, the predominant cells in bone marrow and peripheral blood were sm

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-negative anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a distinct subtype of mature T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by large, strongly positive CD30 lymphoid cells that lack expression and rearrangement of the ALK gene. Here, we present a unique case of ALK-negative ALCL in a 34-year-old male patient who presented with acute on chronic back pain. Initial emergent MRI spine demonstrated lytic changes of L3 and L4 with probable psoas fluid collection, with high suspicion for Pott's disease. However, subsequent work-up including a CT-guided bone biopsy reveal

INTRODUCTION: Anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCL) are a subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma categorized into systemic and cutaneous (cALCL) subtypes. cALCL are frequently characterized by their lack of ALK receptor expression, which differentiates them from their systemic counterparts. cALCLs present as solitary or grouped skin lesions. Due to their rarity, cALCLs are frequently misdiagnosed as other skin conditions.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a female with a 30-year history of expanding skin lesions on the upper and lower limbs, abdomen, and back. During her initial presentation

Breast-implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a non-Hodgkin lymphoma that arises in the space between the surface of a breast implant and the fibrous capsule that grows around the implant. Since its first description 20 years ago, almost 1000 cases of BIA-ALCL have been diagnosed worldwide. Nowadays, guidelines describe the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of this disease. We present the first two cases diagnosed and treated in Peru, demonstrating a wide range of aggressiveness of BIA-ALCL.

Primary malignant lymphomas originating in the adrenal gland, particularly of T-cell origin, are extremely rare. Here we present the primary unilateral adrenal anaplastic large cell lymphoma case. A 64-year-old Japanese male initially presented with fatigue and appetite loss. Computed tomography imaging revealed a unilateral adrenal mass with multiorgan invasion, posing challenges in differentiation from adrenal carcinoma. A biopsy from the metastatic site in the right lateral vastus muscle was obtained, and immunohistochemistry revealed that tumor cells were positive for CD30 and CD56 and neg

A 22-year-old man presented at the emergency department with progressive headache, vomiting and horizontal diplopia over 2-month period. He also developed blurred vision in his left eye. He complained of loss of appetite for the past 2 months, resulting in a 5-kg weight loss. Examination upon arrival revealed papilledema and bilateral abducens nerve palsy. Motor and sensory functions were intact. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain revealed multiple extra-axial nodular enhancing lesions with size of 5-10 mm mainly along with both sides of falx cerebri and vasogenic brain oedema (Fig.

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare and newly recognized subtype of T cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHLs) associated with breast implants. The mechanism involved in the development of this kind of lymphoma is still uncertain.BIA-ALCL is generally an indolent disease localized to the breast implant and its capsule and effectively treated with capsulectomy alone without chemotherapy.Clinically, BIA-ALCL may typically present a sudden-onset breast-swelling secondary to periimplant effusion. The minority of BIA-ALCL patients present a more aggressive mass-form

UNLABELLED: Non-Hodgkin lymphomas are rare causes of primary lung neoplasms and most are B-cell in origin. Anaplastic large cell lymphoma is an exceedingly rare type of primary pulmonary lymphoma, with an aggressive clinical course. We present the case of an 85-year old male patient who attended our Emergency Department complaining of respiratory and constitutional symptoms, and who was found to have a bronchial mass causing subtotal atelectasis of the left lung. Histological examination showed an anaplastic large cell lymphoma and further investigation revealed that it was limited to the lung

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a very rare subtype of T-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Similar to other types of NHL, ALCL primarily involves the nodal areas and sometimes it can involve several extranodal sites such as skin, lung and soft tissue. Primary oral involvement of systemic ALCL is very rare. We report a 55-year-old Thai female with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-negative ALCL primarily occurring at the hard palate. The patient was referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Mahidol University, complaining of a swelling on her left palate. An incisio

BACKGROUND: Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a distinctive type of T-cell lymphoma that arises around breast implants. Although rare, all cases with adequate history have involved a textured breast implant. The objective of this study was to determine the U.S. incidence and lifetime prevalence of breast implant-associated ALCL in women with textured breast implants.
METHODS: This is a retrospective review of documented cases of breast implant-associated ALCL in the United States from 1996 to 2015. The incidence and prevalence were determined based on a litera

Primary bone lymphoma (PBL) is an uncommon extra nodal disease that represents about 1-3% of lymphoma cases. Imaging findings are variable and non-specific. Computed tomography may demonstrate lytic lesions with sequestra and periosteal reaction. On magnetic resonance imaging, lesions are T1WI hypointense and T2WI hyperintense, related to peritumoral edema or bone marrow replacement. Rarely lesions may have associated fibrosis and show a more hypointense signal pattern on T2WI. After administration of contrast, PBL tends to enhance avidly. We present a case of a 24 years old African American f

Primary anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) of the lung is highly aggressive and quite rare. We report here a case of anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive endobronchial ALCL, that was initially thought to be primary lung cancer. A 68-year-old woman presented with hemoptysis, dyspnea, and upper respiratory symptoms persisting since 1 month. The hemoptysis and and bronchial obstruction lead to respiratory failure, prompting emergency radiotherapy and steroid treatment based on the probable diagnosis of lung cancer, although a biopsy did not confirm malignancy. Following treatment, her symptoms

A 36-year-old woman was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) by excisional biopsy of a left frontal skin lesion. During the first cycle of chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone), the patient complained of right ocular pain and inflammation. Cytologic examination using aqueous humor revealed atypical lymphocytes, suggesting intraocular ALCL involvement. Acute angle closure developed in the anterior chamber due to rapid progression of ALCL, causing pupillary block. Laser and surgical interventions were attempted but failed to relieve the pupil

Lepromatous leprosy (LL) has been reported in the literature with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma and rarely with Hodgkin Lymphoma. However, an extensive search of the literature shows no case report describing anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) in association with LL. We report a case of a young male with LL who was found to have ALCL. This is an interesting case of coexistence of an endemic infectious disease and a rare lymphoma involving the same lymph node, with a brief review of the literature.

A neutrophil-rich anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) presented in the skin of a 47-year-old Japanese woman. The solitary cutaneous lesion was an eroded, 10-mm, dome-shaped nodule involving the skin of her left upper arm. Histologically, it showed a proliferation of pleomorphic, anaplastic, large tumor cells with nuclei of various shapes, including embryo-shaped, Reed-Sternberg cell-like binucleated, and wreath-shaped multiple nuclei, in the dermis and subcutaneous tissues. There was an admixture of neutrophils ranging from about 30% to more than 50% per field. Immunophenotypically, the neop
