BACKGROUND: The negative impact of vaccine conspiracies is linked with negative health behavior. The aim of the current study was to examine the association between attitudes toward booster COVID-19, influenza, and monkeypox (mpox) vaccinations with post-COVID-19 vaccine side effects, vaccine conspiracies, and attitude towards mandatory vaccination among nurses and physicians in Jordan.
METHODS: A structured closed-ended questionnaire was used to collect data on demographics, COVID-19 history, COVID-19 vaccine type and doses received, self-reported side effects post-COVID-19 vaccination, acce

BACKGROUND: As with many high-income countries, vaccination coverage against human papilloma virus (HPV) infection is not high in New Zealand (NZ) at 47% in school-aged girls for three doses. We estimate the health gains, net-cost and cost-effectiveness of the currently implemented HPV national vaccination programme of vaccination dispersed across schools and primary care, and two alternatives: school-based only (assumed coverage as per Australia: 73%), and mandatory school-based vaccination but with opt-out permitted (coverage 93%). We also generate estimates by social group (sex, ethnic and

We studied current vaccination policies for health-care personnel (HCP) in 34 European countries. All (34) countries have vaccination policies for hepatitis B, 33 countries for influenza, and 22 countries for COVID-19. Vaccination policies for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella exist in 28, 23, 24, and 26 countries, respectively, and for tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and poliomyelitis in 21, 23, 23, and 15 countries, respectively. Vaccination policies for hepatitis A exist in 20 countries, and for tuberculosis (BCG vaccine), pneumococcus, herpes zoster, and human papillomavirus in 6, 6,

People had contradictory opinions on using vaccinations over time: an initial opposition, later large favour and then doubts and perplexities. In recent times, some movements, blogs and associations stigmatize the use of vaccinations and they are increasingly asking to remove mandatory vaccinations in countries where they are active. The impact of the antivaccination campaigns should not be underestimated, considering that, for example, in Italy, due to these campaigns, adhesions to vaccinations are decreasing by 1% per year, and in reference to rubella and measles, adhesions decreased by 25%

OBJECTIVES: In Japan, mumps immunization is not mandatory, and the prevalence of mumps immunization among eligible children is only about 30%, raising concerns about increased risk of meningitis, encephalitis and deafness caused by mumps. In 2011, to understand why families are not voluntarily immunizing their children against mumps, we surveyed mothers who were university graduates to examine the factors and barriers influencing mumps vaccination in Japan.
STUDY DESIGN: A cross sectional design.
METHODS: We sent questionnaires including questions on demographic data and vaccination status,

ARTICLE HISTORY: Following the refugee crisis in Lebanon, the on-going inflow of Syrian refugees presented new challenges to optimal immunization coverage for all the children living in the country. Healthcare facilities have been overburdened during this period and the country witnessed outbreaks of many infectious diseases. Thus, the evaluation of vaccine compliance for mandatory and non-mandatory vaccines as well as the factors affecting the vaccination rate among Lebanese residents and Syrian refugees is fundamental.
BACKGROUND: Since 2012, Lebanon has hosted around 1.2 million Syrian ref

This paper analyses exemptions to general law through the prism of vaccine waivers in the United States. All US states legally require the vaccination of children prior to school or daycare entry; however, this obligation is accompanied with a system of medical, religious, and/or philosophical exemptions. Nonmedical exemptions became subject of discussion after the 2015 Disneyland measles outbreak in California, which unequivocally brought to light what had been brewing below the surface for a while: a slow but steady decline in vaccination rates in Western societies, resulting in the reoccurr

This article explores how political and health authorities in Chile responded to smallpox epidemics. It focuses on the methods employed (isolation, variolation, and vaccination) and the institutional strengthening that led to mandatory smallpox vaccination. We argue that these responses reflect the centralization of state power in public health and a process of institutional consolidation. However, the implementation of these policies met with passive resistance, as evidenced by low vaccination rates in the first half of the twentieth century. This reveals tensions between state health objecti

BACKGROUND: The annual rabies vaccination coverage in dogs among 47 prefectures in Japan has been reported to range from 42.3% to 92.4%, and the overall coverage has been steadily declining. Given the presence of unregistered dogs and the small number of stray dogs, the true vaccination coverage is likely to be even lower.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of dog owners to identify the owner characteristics associated with dog rabies vaccination. People in Japan who currently own dogs were recruited and answered a questionnaire consisting of four sections: (i) demographic charact

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and is associated with the development of genital warts, precancerous lesions, and cancers of the oropharynx, anus, penis, vulva, vagina, and cervix. HPV-associated diseases are preventable through vaccination. An Australian nationwide vaccination program will effectively eliminate cervical cancer as a public health concern by the year 2035. Despite safety and efficacy data, vaccination against HPV is not mandatory for military service members. Active duty service women are more likely to test pos

Vaccination coverage are generally geographically variable, even within large cities; furthermore, across target population are embedded difficult-to-reach clusters. To address this issue and improve coverage of mandatory vaccinations, a study group explored bringing vaccination at home as an interventional strategy. In a pilot experience, parents of unvaccinated and under vaccinated children of the 2020 birth cohort living in Naples, Italy were contacted by telephone to offer home administration of vaccinations. A specifically trained team arranged vaccinations visits at home. Coverage rates

Japan is one of the few rabies-free countries or territories (under the OIE standard) which still implement the policy of mandatory vaccination of domestic dogs. Under the Rabies Prevention Law enacted since 1950, pet owners in Japan are obliged to vaccinate their dogs every year. However, the national vaccination rate is estimated to average 42% over the past decade. Given this low owner compliance, there is debate over whether or not the mandatory vaccination policy should be maintained and if it were to be maintained, whether the yearly booster requirement is necessary or not. Data on 144 c

INTRODUCTION: Vaccines are the most cost-effective and straightforward intervention against severe infectious diseases. However, in Europe and in Italy, paediatric vaccination coverage for certain vaccines remains suboptimal, with considerable regional differences in Italy. Vaccine coverage varies significantly due to socio-economic and organisational factors. Aim of this study was to assess the influence of the Deprivation Index, the density of General Practitioners and General Paediatricians per inhabitants on the coverage of both mandatory and non-mandatory paediatric vaccinations across lo

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Regular monitoring of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine uptake quickly exposes immunity gaps in the population. In Poland, the first dose of the MMR vaccine is mandatory for children between 13 and 15 months of life. This study aimed to assess the uptake of the first dose of MMR vaccine in 380 administrative counties in Poland in 2020, as well as to analyze the MMR vaccine uptake trends in 2013-2016-2020.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study is an epidemiological retrospective national registry-based analysis. Data on mandatory childhood vaccinations in all

The ongoing severe acute respiratory sickness coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has resulted in more than 3,600,000 detected cases of COVID-19 illness and nearly 260,000 deaths worldwide as of May 6, 2020. Recently, BCG vaccination was shown to correlate with reduced COVID-19 case fatality rates (preprint: Miller et al, 2020; preprint: Sala & Miyakawa, 2020; https://www.jsatonotes.com/2020/03/if-i-were-north-americaneuropeanaustral.html). The most recent data from publicly available resources also indicate that both COVID-19 incidence and total deaths are strongly associated with the presenc

BACKGROUND: Influenza outbreaks rapidly threaten public health, making vaccination a critical tool in reducing transmission. Health care workers (HCWs), especially those in direct patient care roles within all health care settings, are encouraged to receive annual influenza vaccinations to enhance their immunity and ensure patient safety.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to identify and describe the factors associated with HCWs' adherence to annual influenza vaccination within a United Arab Emirates (UAE) hospital and provide recommendations to improve adherence rates.
METHOD: Using a quantitati

INTRODUCTION: Vaccination is the most effective method of preventing infectious disease among healthcare workers (HCWs). Although HCWs are recommended to receive vaccination, the vaccination rates have been low. We sought to investigate the effect of HCWs' vaccination recommendation program by the types of enforcement and influencing factors on compliance, with the aim of enhancing their immunity.
METHODOLOGY: First and second interventions were carried out. During the first intervention, vaccinations were recommended through official documents. Hepatitis B vaccination was mandatory. Diphther

BACKGROUND: Medical exemptions to mandated vaccines are permitted for contraindications, such as anaphylaxis and immunosuppression. However, clinicians encounter 'special medical exemptions' when the medical reason for requiring an exemption falls outside strict criteria. Processes for seeking, assessing, and granting these exemptions are often unclear and vary across jurisdictions.
AIM: To map the published literature on the experiences of parents, caregivers, or individuals seeking special medical exemptions for mandated childhood vaccines, occupational vaccines for healthcare workers, and
