Analysis of the mandibular molars root canals morphology. Study by computed tomography.

This study aimed to analyze the root and root canal morphology of mandibular first and second molars using CBCT images. A total of 2,400 mandibular molars exams were selected from 600 patients aged between 18 and 75 years. The number of roots, number of root canals, and root canal configuration according to the Vertucci classification were verified. Overall, 94.92% of mandibular first molars and 90.17% of mandibular second molars had two separate roots. Among the biradicular molars, the first molars showed a greater incidence of type IV canals in the mesial root and type I in the distal root.

Endodontic therapy of a mandibular third molar with 5 canals: a case report.

Endodontic treatment of third molars often becomes part of comprehensive treatment plans, as it represents a more conservative and less invasive approach than its therapeutic alternatives. The frequency of anatomic variations in mandibular molars, particularly root canal configuration, requires 2 periapical radiographs from different angles. Upon reading and interpretation of the radiographs, the clinician should consider the anatomy and level of difficulty of the endodontic procedure and refer the patient to an endodontist, if deemed necessary. The present article discusses the successful tre

Anatomic relationship between impacted third mandibular molar and the mandibular canal as the risk factor of inferior alveolar nerve injury.

Our aim was to explore the relation between the site of the mandibular canal and neurosensory impairment after extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. We organised a retrospective study of 537 extractions in 318 patients in which the affected tooth was intersected by the mandibular canal. This was verified by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), and we analysed the relation between the site of the canal and the likelihood of injury to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) after extraction of the third molar. The relation between the position of the root of the tooth and the mandibular can

A Longitudinal Cone Beam Computed Tomography Study of Mandibular Canal Changes During Growth.

INTRODUCTION: The mandibular canal has been considered a stable anatomic reference structure and continues to be recognised as a primary vertical structure in 2D mandibular superimposition. However, whether the mandibular canal is stable in the transverse dimension is unclear. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective longitudinal study utilised cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of 17 subjects (9.15 ± 1.79 years old at T1 and 11.47 ± 1.82 years old at T2) who did not have orthodontic or orthopaedic intervention. Mandibular superimposition in 3D of T1 and T2 images was performed, and

[Management of accidental tooth root displacement into the mandibular canal during tooth extraction].

The accidental displacement of tooth roots into the mandibular canal is a serious complication during tooth extractions in oral and maxillofacial surgery, often resulting in direct damage to the structural and functional integrity of the inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle (IANB). This article reviews the anatomical features of the mandibular canal, the IANB, and adjacent tooth roots; identifies high-risk factors and anatomically vulnerable sites for root displacement; and outlines the clinical manifestations and radiographic characteristics of intraoperative root intrusion into the mandibu
