AIM: To evaluate the outcome of immediately loaded mandibular cross-arch prostheses according to the 'all-on-4' concept supported by implants placed in fresh extraction sockets up to 18 months after loading.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In total, 47 patients with a mean age of 62.3 years (range 52 to 78) were rehabilitated with an immediately loaded fixed cross-arch prosthesis supported by four post-extractive implants. A total of 188 implants were inserted. Patients received a provisional fixed dental prosthesis with a metal framework within 48 hours after surgery and a permanent one 6 months late

Mandibular reconstruction with a fibula free flap is often used for advanced oral malignancies, osteonecrosis, or benign tumors to restore function and appearance after segmental mandibulectomy. The "Jaw in a Day" (JIAD) technique enables immediate restoration of form and function with a fibula free flap, implants, and a temporary prosthesis. This case reports the unique use of the JIAD technique in a young female patient with a traumatic mandibular nonunion fracture and chronic osteomyelitis, demonstrating its efficacy in significantly enhancing her quality of life. Laryngoscope, 135:2331-233

Rehabilitation of maxillary atrophy with dental implants is challenging to the clinician despite the wide variety of surgical techniques available. Finding the right indication for a procedure is highly important for the long-term stability of dental implants. With the introduction of the concept of "teeth-in-a-day," clinicians have explored innovative techniques to attain the goal of immediate implant-supported provisional prosthesis. However, costs and comorbidities are limitations to advancing these techniques. This article focuses on algorithms to rehabilitate the atrophic maxilla with the

OBJECTIVES: Multiple implants for facilitating the fabrication of shorter-span prostheses can reduce the complications associated with implant-borne fixed dental prostheses. This retrospective clinical study aimed to assess the short-term clinical and radiological outcomes of two- and three-piece mandibular full-arch implant-borne fixed dental prostheses.
METHODS: Immediate implant placement was performed in the lower jaw, and patients received an immediate temporary acrylic prosthesis on multiunit abutments. At least six implants supported the segmented full-arch prostheses. Final prostheses

PURPOSE: This multi-center retrospective study evaluated the survival and success of extra-short and short locking-taper dental implants placed in both maxillary and mandibular fibula grafts.
METHODS: A total of 37 patients were treated across five study sites and received 146 implants in fibula grafted sites. Out of those patients, 23 received prostheses, and they received 25 prostheses in total. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to assess the survival and success rates of both implants and prostheses. Multivariate Cox regression and manifold learning were used to correlate study covar

Most edentulous patients prefer fixed restoration or detachable prostheses over conventional complete dentures. The case report aims to address and discuss the clinical and laboratory steps of implant-supported, bar-retained maxillary overdenture and mandibular implant-supported, metal-acrylic resin, screw-retained, fixed complete denture. Impression techniques and laboratory steps are discussed and demonstrated to minimize the postfabrication or insertion complication. It lets you achieve the passive fit of the prosthesis that maintains the osseointegration by reducing stress on implants and

Severely deformed or absent temporomandibular joints (TMJ) benefit from total alloplastic joint replacement and large mandibular defects from revascularized free tissue transfer for reconstruction. However no cases of their combined one-stage placement with outcomes can be found in the literature. We present two cases with different indications and reconstruction. The first patient required mandibular body and ascending ramus reconstruction after previous sarcoma resection. This was with a condyle-bearing reconstruction plate which resulted in significant dysfunction, leaving the patient unabl

We report here a case of vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis with many complications that required further surgical interventions. A 54-year-old man underwent mandibular resection followed by iliac bone grafting as the result of large mandibular odontogenic keratocyst. Eleven months later, alveolar vertical distraction osteogenesis was applied to the patient for prosthetic rehabilitation. Fracture of the basal bone occurred in the consolidation period, and the fracture was fixed by the titanium miniplate system. Radiographic examination after completion of distraction osteogenesis confi

BACKGROUND: Hyoid bone is attached to the mandible, tongue, larynx, temporal bone, and cervical spine via different types of muscles or ligaments. The tongue, mandible, and hyoid system play a crucial role in swallowing function. This within subject study aimed to evaluate the impact of mandibular implant overdentures on the displacement of the hyoid bones during the swallowing process.
METHODS: Twenty five healthy edentulous subjects were selected for participating in the study. New complete dentures were constructed for all the participants. Subsequently two dental implants were inserted in

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastoma, a benign but locally aggressive tumor, accounts for 9% to 11% of all odontogenic tumors. Radical procedures, including resection, are performed. To restore functions after resection, free vascularized iliac grafts followed by a dental implant-supported prosthesis are used as a successful treatment option. The aim of this case report is to evaluate the peri-implant clinical status and stability of dental implants placed in patients with advanced-stage mandibular ameloblastomas.
METHODS: Examinations of three patients revealed extensive ameloblastomas, and hemimandibu

Florid cemento-osseus dysplasia (FCOD) has been described as a reactive process in which normal bone is replaced by fibrous connective tissues and cementum-like materials. Radiographically it appears as dense, lobulated masses, often occurring bilaterally with symmetric involvement. In this case report, a successful implant placement has been reported in a 62-year-old Caucasian woman with a chief complaint of mandibular partial edentulous. Radiographic images showed the bilateral radiopaque lesions in edentulous regions of mandible, and mandibular anterior teeth alike. All mandibular teeth wer

PURPOSE: This study aimed to comparatively analyze full-arch mandibular reconstruction using dental implants. It focused on two distinct prosthesis configurations: completely splinted and segmentally splinted. These configurations were evaluated under two different occlusal schemes-group function and canine guidance-utilizing finite element analysis (FEA).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The methodology involved developing three-dimensional finite element models from computed tomography data acquired from an edentulous patient. Six dental implants were utilized to complete the mandibular reconstructio

INTRODUCTION: Anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a rare disease combining hypodontia, hypotrichosis, and hypohidrosis. The quality of life is greatly impaired very early, with major difficulty for feeding and the drawbacks of usual dental prostheses. Early implant placement is a therapeutic alternative. It is usually performed in areas of stable growth, such as the mandibular symphysis. We report the case of very early implant placement in a child presenting with hypodontia related to ectodermal dysplasia.

OBJECTIVE: In this paper, we report a case of missing posterior teeth after mandibular fibular flap grafting and implant restoration by means of a digital restorative process, in the hope that the application of digital technology will help the patient to comfortably establish an adapted occlusal relationship.
CASE REPORT: A 29-year-old male patient developed a left mandibular ameloblastoma measuring 35 mm × 35 mm × 25 mm, which did not invade the surrounding bone tissue, submandibular gland tissue, or lymph nodes. After resection of an 85 mm mandibular segment, the patient was reconstructed

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of prostheses designed using mandibular motion analysis in maxillary full-arch implant rehabilitation.
METHODS: Twenty patients were assigned to a study group (n = 10), receiving prostheses designed with dynamic occlusal data from an electronic jaw motion analyzer (JMA), or a control group (n = 10) using conventional static digital workflows. Between-group differences in occlusal adjustment depth (MAE), area, and chairside time were analyzed by independent t-tests. Within the study group, the stability of mandibular movement paths (provisional vs.

Occlusal reconstruction comprising orthodontic treatment, autotransplantation, and implant treatment was performed in a 30-year-old woman with missing maxillary anterior teeth. An initial examination revealed marked root resorption of the maxillary anterior teeth. Both the maxillary canines were missing, causing constriction of the dental arch. Conserving the right maxillary central and lateral incisors, which were dislocated due to trauma, was considered to be too difficult, and a bridge was not selected as there was insufficient load bearing capacity in the adjacent abutment teeth, making th
