BACKGROUND AND AIMS: In recent times, non-opioid analgesic-based anaesthesia has been gaining popularity as it can achieve the goals of hypnosis, amnesia, and haemodynamic stability while avoiding opioid side effects. Our study compares the efficacy of opioid-free anaesthesia and opioid-based general anaesthesia regarding intraoperative haemodynamic stability, anaesthetic requirements, awareness, and recovery profile.
METHODS: After receiving ethical approval and registering the trial, we conducted this randomised, single-blinded study on American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical s

BACKGROUND: Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) and modified pectoral nerve block (PECS-II) are being increasingly used to control pain following breast surgeries. However, evidence comparing their effects on postoperative analgesia and surgical stress response is limited. The current study compared analgesic efficacy and surgical stress response attenuation of ESPB and PECS-II in patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy (MRM).
METHODS: In this prospective, randomised, comparative study, 42 patients undergoing elective MRM were randomly divided to receive either ESPB or PECS-II. Both gro

BACKGROUND: Postoperative lymphorrhea and seroma formation are frequent complications after modified radical mastectomy (MRM) that can prolong recovery. Octreotide, a somatostatin analog with broad anti-secretory effects, has shown promise in reducing lymphatic drainage in various surgical settings. We conducted a randomized trial to evaluate the efficacy of octreotide in reducing lymphorrhea and seroma formation in patients with early breast cancer (stages I, IIA, and IIB) undergoing MRM.
METHODS: Eighty patients with early breast carcinoma (stages I, IIA, and IIB) scheduled for MRM were ran

BACKGROUND: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a common postoperative disorder that is frequently observed after general anesthesia, which seriously threatens the quality of patients' life. Existing studies have demonstrated that S-ketamine plays an important role in improving neuroinflammation. This trial aimed to explore the effects of S-ketamine on quality of recovery and cognitive function in patients following modified radical mastectomy (MRM).
METHODS: Ninety patients aged 45 to 70 years with ASA grades of I or II, who underwent MRM, were selected. Patients were randomly assi

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Modified radical mastectomy (MRM) is associated with persistent postoperative pain. Paravertebral block (PVB) is the gold standard for postoperative analgesia. A pecto-intercostal fascial plane (PIFB) block added to the pectoral nerve block (Pecs) may provide effective analgesia. This trial aimed to compare the analgesic efficacy of Pecs-PIFB with PVB.
METHODS: Fifty American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) I/II patients scheduled for MRM were randomly assigned to receive either Pecs-PIFB block with 30 mL for Pecs block and 15 mL for PIFB or PVB block with 20 mL (0.2%

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Ultrasound-guided deep serratus anterior plane (SAP) block has recently gained popularity as an analgesic technique in breast surgery. However, the effectiveness of ultrasound depends largely on the quality of the equipment used, and the technique can be complicated by patient-related factors such as obesity. We hypothesized that the simpler open approach to deep SAP block would be non-inferior to the ultrasound-guided approach in providing analgesia for modified radical mastectomy.
METHOD: A non-inferiority, randomized controlled study was performed in 100 patients aged

INTRODUCTION: Potent analgesics such as sufentanil and remifentanil play a pivotal role in general anesthesia, but these medications have disadvantages, including respiratory depression, nausea, vomiting, immune system suppression, and gastrointestinal function inhibition. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the transversus thoracic muscle plane-pectoral nerves (TTP-PECS) block on postoperative analgesia, immune function and early postoperative recovery quality in patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy under opioid-sparing general anesthesia.
METHODS: A total of 100 patients
