Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a common skin cancer worldwide. However, BCC of the nipple and areola complex is rare. Men are more affected than women. Most of the cases were treated with simple excision. We report a case of BCC of the right nipple-areola complex in a 75-year-old man, treated with Mohs surgery and simple mastectomy.

Ten cases of vascular tumors of the breast were examined in our laboratory during the last decade (1992-2001). Nine patients were female and one male (ages 31-77, average 52 years). Six patients presented parenchymal vascular lesions (1 angiosarcoma, 1 atypical hemangioma, 3 perilobular hemangiomas, 1 cavernous hemangioma) measuring 0.5-6 cm in the greatest diameter. The rate of radiation-induced side-effects is dependent from exogenous technical and endogenous factors. In most patients (approximately 85%), breast cancer at the time of diagnosis is already a systemic disease. Multicentricity (20-40%) and synchronous (5-10%) and metachronous (15-30%) bilaterality are indicative of etiologically similar noxae. Bilateral fibroadenosis is a rare, benign disorder, affecting adolescents or women of childbearing age. Choosing the most optimal therapy that manages both the physical and psychological aspects of the disease is a challenge. BACKGROUND: In the United Kingdom, the rise in simple mastectomies without drain placement has contributed to improving rates of day-case surgery. However, this practice has resulted in increased rates of symptomatic seromas and greater resource burden in clinics. For postoperative incision management, we have implemented the use of closed incision negative pressure therapy (ciNPT) with foam dressings that cover the entire incision and surrounding tissues. The aim of this study was to establish whether the use of full-coverage ciNPT after mastectomy reduced seroma-related interventions.

The authors have reviewed the medical files of 100 patients with locally advanced breast cancer (Stage III), who were treated in the Department of Surgery at the Institut Jules Bordet between 1974 and 1988. All patients received pre-operative radiotherapy (average total dose 45 Gy), which was associated with chemotherapy in 74% of patients. All patients were subsequently subjected to surgery, using a modified mastectomy in 92% of cases. INTRODUCTION: Chest masculinization is often the first operation requested by patients with female-to-male gender dysphoria. Despite increasing demand for this procedure, no recommendation of care is unanimous. We present our experience with the use of a simple and effective algorithm based on periareolar and subcutaneous mastectomy with free nipple graft techniques and compare complication rates between techniques.

A simple technique is described for removing the ductal tissue from the nipple in a subcutaneous mastectomy. We believe that complete removal of all the ductal tissue is desirable in this operation, and that it will also decrease the incidence of subsequent infection.
