Nude (nu/nu) mice bearing human tumour heterografts were affected with posterior paralysis and wasting. There was demyelination and infection of the oligodendrocytes of the spinal cord with a papovavirus. Similar virus particles and inclusion bodies were found in the bronchial epithelium, which showed histopathological changes. OBJECTIVE: To study the radiosensitizing effect of resveratrol on human hypo pharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (FaDu) cells in nude mice.
METHODS: Forty-three nude mice bearing FaDu cell xenografts were randomized into control group, radiotherapy (12 Gy) group, resveratrol treatment (50 mg/kg) group, and radiotherapy plus resveratrol treatment group. Measles virus (MV) isolates from patients with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) differ from wild-type MV virologically. However, few animal models have reported viruses with characteristics of the SSPE virus. The MV Edmonston strain was inoculated into the subarachnoid space of nude mice. Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) occurs frequently in patients with immunodeficiency syndromes, especially AIDS. In order to investigate the role of IFN-gamma on PCP, nude mice deficient in IFN-gamma (GKO nude) and their wild-type ones (WT nude) were infected with murine Pneumocystis. Damnacanthal was previously shown to be a promising colorectal cancer therapeutic candidate. Its efficacy relied on multiple administrations. This study, therefore, aims to assess the renal toxicity of 20 mg/kg damnacanthal (DAM20) in nude mice following three, seven and 14 repeated administrations. Congenitally T and B cell-deficient SCID mice and T cell-deficient NUDE mice, with BALB/c mice as immunologically normal controls, were inoculated with Rhinosporidium seeberi. At 3 and 16 weeks after inoculation, no evidence of rhinosporidiosis was detected. The reasons for the failure to establish rhinosporidiosis in immunodeficient or normal mice remain obscure.
