Novel Smart Sensor Platform for Monitoring Multiple Pressure Injury Risk Factors: A Feasibility Study in a Post-Acute Care Facility.

INTRODUCTION: Posture, temperature, and moisture have been identified as critical modifiable risk factors in pressure injury (PI) development. Microclimate is defined as temperature and humidity at the interface of the support surface and body. To our knowledge, no studies have used sensor technology to measure these parameters simultaneously in real time. Continuous monitoring of repositioning and microclimate provide real-time actionable insights to help deliver personalized care and measure the effectiveness of interventions. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the ability of a smart surface platform t

[Strategy and tactics of radiation protection of the personnel in light of future work on stabilization and reorganization of the "Shelter" compound into radiologically safe system].

The research aim is to analyze the "Shelter" personnel work conditions and to estimate how these conditions specify radiological defense. "Shelter" object remains to be an accumulation of the open radiotoxic materials. It is expected that the usage of standard technologies in such conditions will be connected with the great dose-expense of external and internal irradiation. The significant quantity of the fuel dust (more 30 tonne according to uranium) and the extremely harmful microclimate conditions such as: aggressive radiochemical aerosols, exclusively artificial and obviously insufficient

Climatic variations and Yersinia pestis host-vector abundance: a case study in Ankazobe district to understand plague epidemiology in Madagascar.

BACKGROUND: Plague, a disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis remains a major public health concern in Madagascar despite numerous multidisciplinary studies. The persistence of human plague infections is thought to be linked to fluctuations in mammalian host and flea populations, which are affected by climatic and environmental variations. This study explored local macro- and microclimatic variations along with mammal and flea population dynamics across different microhabitat types within plague endemic rural and forested habitats of Madagascar. Understanding these variables and their

Airflow and spectrum interactions jointly regulate gas exchange and biomass production in vertical farming.

Microclimate heterogeneity and uneven airflow remain major constraints to physiological stability and yield uniformity in vertical farming (VF). While airflow can influence leaf boundary-layer conditions and gas exchange, its interaction with LED spectral composition is not fully understood. This study investigated the combined effects of targeted airflow and LED spectrum on physiological performance and biomass formation of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) grown in a containerized multilayer VF system. Two lighting treatments were applied: broad-spectrum WHITE and blue-red-far-red (B/R/FR), both a

The vertical stratification of potential bridge vectors of mosquito-borne viruses in a central Amazonian forest bordering Manaus, Brazil.

The emergence of Zika virus (ZIKV) in Latin America brought to the fore longstanding concerns that forests bordering urban areas may provide a gateway for arbovirus spillback from humans to wildlife. To bridge urban and sylvatic transmission cycles, mosquitoes must co-occur with both humans and potential wildlife hosts, such as monkeys, in space and time. We deployed BG-Sentinel traps at heights of 0, 5, 10, and 15 m in trees in a rainforest reserve bordering Manaus, Brazil, to characterize the vertical stratification of mosquitoes and their associations with microclimate and to identify poten

Enhancement of Istrian Malvasia wine aroma and hydroxycinnamate composition by hand and mechanical leaf removal.

BACKGROUND: Leaf removal is a viticultural practice that promotes the biosynthesis of several important grape constituents by improving fruit zone microclimate. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of hand and mechanical leaf removal, applied at the pea-size stage of berry development, on fruit zone microclimate, volatile aroma compounds, hydroxycinnamates and sensory characteristics of Istrian Malvasia (Vitis vinifera L.) wines. Three different sunlight exposure conditions were applied: hand leaf removal (HLR), mechanical leaf removal (MLR) and untreated control (UC). RESULTS:

Evaluation of Physical Risk during Necropsy and Morgue Activities as Risk Management Strategy.

Physical risk assessments allow us to understand work-related critical issues, thus representing a useful tool in risk management strategies. In particular, our study focuses on the identification of already known and emerging physical risks related to necropsy and morgue activities, as well as crime scene investigations. The aim of our study is, therefore, to identify objective elements in order to quantify exposure to such risk factors among healthcare professionals and working personnel. For the research of potentially at-risk activities, data from the Morgue of Policlinico Umberto I Hospit

Use of an automatic fruit-zone cooling system to cope with multiple summer stresses in Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes.

Grapevines are frequently subjected to heatwaves and limited water availability during ripening. These conditions can have consequences for the physiological health of the vines. Moreover, the situation is often exacerbated by intense solar radiation, resulting in reduced yield due to sunburn and a decline in quality. In light of these challenges, our study aimed to develop a fruit-zone cooling system designed to mitigate grape sunburn damage and improve the microclimate conditions within the vineyard. The system comprises a network of proximal sensors that collect microclimate data from the v

Heat loss during neonatal operations.

The changes in the body and environmental temperatures were measured in 37 babies who were subjected to various operations within three weeks of birth. Factors that cause fluctuations in body temperature have been identified, and means of preventing such changes are described. It is essential to prevent undue exposure and to maintain a microclimate at a suitable temperature round the baby at all stages before, during, and after operation.

Potential Effects of Environmental Conditions on Prairie Dog Flea Development and Implications for Sylvatic Plague Epizootics.

Fleas are common ectoparasites of vertebrates worldwide and vectors of many pathogens causing disease, such as sylvatic plague in prairie dog colonies. Development of fleas is regulated by environmental conditions, especially temperature and relative humidity. Development rates are typically slower at low temperatures and faster at high temperatures, which are bounded by lower and upper thresholds where development is reduced. Prairie dogs and their associated fleas (mostly Oropsylla spp) live in burrows that moderate outside environmental conditions, remaining cooler in summer and warmer in w

Urohidrosis as an overlooked cooling mechanism in long-legged birds.

Behavioural thermoregulation could buffer the impacts of climate warming on vertebrates. Specifically, the wetting of body surfaces and the resulting evaporation of body fluids serves as a cooling mechanism in a number of vertebrates coping with heat. Storks (Ciconiidae) frequently excrete onto their legs to prevent overheating, a phenomenon known as urohidrosis. Despite the increasingly recognised role of bare and highly vascularised body parts in heat exchange, the ecological and evolutionary determinants of urohidrosis have been largely ignored. We combine urohidrosis data from a scientific

[The effect of exposure to radiation and other industrial factors on the morbidity of the personnel in enterprises in the mining and processing of rare-earth metal ores].

Multivariate regression analysis proved that radiation of allowable level had no unfavorable influence on morbidity with transitory disablement. Increased from 0.15 to 2.0 microGy/hr dose rate of gamma radiation at the workplaces resulted in slightly lower morbidity. Unfavorable influence on morbidity was caused by physical factors (noise, vibration, microclimate, work hardness), irritating and neurotoxic chemicals in amounts which seldom exceeded the allowable norms, hostile climate and geographic conditions.

Low wind, high impact: sustained low airflow alters water use efficiency and shapes plant acclimation.

Minor differences in airflow are often assumed to have negligible physiological effects, yet they directly modify heat and gas exchange by altering the leaf boundary layer. We investigated how sustained low airflow impacts mechanisms regulating leaf-microclimate exchange, and how these responses shape acclimation in Lactuca sativa and Solanum lycopersicum. Lettuce was grown under two low-velocity airflow regimes (0.22 m s-1 and 0.65 m s-1), and changes in the leaf surface microclimate, plant transpiration, stomatal regulation, leaf photosynthesis, and growth were quantified. Increased airflow

A data-driven method to assess indoor climate response to outdoor conditions in heavy-weight buildings for adaptive reuse.

Assessing the suitability of unconditioned buildings for adaptive reuse as archival storages, particularly with respect to their microclimate behaviour, remains a complex and evolving methodological challenge. This study proposes a data-driven method using indoor and outdoor climate data to assess whether unconditioned buildings can be adaptively reused for specific functions (e.g., archival), based on their microclimate behaviour. The multi-step approach includes quality check, stationarity analysis, temporal decomposition, and buffering capacity analysis. This is applied to 5 years (2020-202
