OBJECTIVE: We aim to assess factors that affect overall survival in patients with primary small intestinal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) who had undergone R0 resection.
METHOD: A retrospective analysis reviewed the data of 82 consecutive confirmed GIST patients at a single medical center in China from January 2012 to June 2020. The survival curve was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and independent prognostic factors were confirmed using the Cox regression model.

The levels of cyclic adenosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cGMP) were studied in dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA)-induced mammary tumors of Sprague-Dawley rats and in human breast cancer. In the rat carcinomas, these levels were significantly lower than in non-malignant tissues when calculated on the basis of DNA content, but higher (cAMP) or equal (cGMP) when calculated on the basis of weight. A study of the effect of temporary unilateral renal ischaemia on the epithelium lining the renal pelvis and the bladder of the rat is described. This study includes 28 intraepithelial squamous lesions of the cervix associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA sequences detected by the Southern blot technique. The effect of pinealectomy on the adrenal growth in unilaterally adrenalectomized rats was studied by evaluation of the mitotic activity of adrenocortical cells on the fifth and tenth day after operation. It was found that pinealectomy resulted in an about double increase of mitotic index on the 5th day after unilateral adrenalectomy, and on the 10th day the stimulatory effect of pinealectomy became less significant.

Phytotoxicity, cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of pesticides with various mechanisms of targeted activity were studied in a hydroponic culture of 2-day-old seedlings of Triticum aestivum. All studied pesticides (with the exception of metribuzin) exhibited dose-dependent phytotoxicity (inhibited the growth of the main root and reduced the yield of root biomass). All studied pesticides did not affect mitotic index in the root apex meristem but did affect the duration of some phases of mitosis. Herbicides increased, while fungicides, on the contrary, decreased the duration of the cytokinesis phase.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: We investigated the influence of pinealectomy on liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy in rats.
METHODS: Thirty rats were allocated into four groups as follows: group 1 in which no operation was done (control), group 2 in which only midline scalp incision and craniotomy was performed (sham operation), group 3 in which pinealectomy was performed and group 4 in which the rats underwent pinealectomy and pineal transplantation. Proliferation and 3H-proline incorporation were studied autoradiographically in cells of Dupuytren's fibromatosis. It was observed that cells in the fibromatous tissue only exhibit a minimal proliferation rate. Increased 3H-thymidine labelling was found in vascular and perivascular cells. The finding may indicate that cells of perivascular areas contribute to the formation of the nodules. 3H-proline labelling was pronounced over cells of the fibromatous tissue leading to the assumption that these cells are highly metabolic.
