A multifunctional molecularly imprinted polymer-based biosensor for direct detection of doxycycline in food samples.

In this study, we developed a new type of multifunctional molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) composite as an all-in-one biosensor for the low-cost, rapid and sensitive detection of doxycycline in pig plasma. The MIP composite consisted of a magnetic core for ease of manipulation, and a shell of fluorescent MIPs for selective recognition of doxycycline. By simply incorporating a small amount of fluorescent monomer (fluorescein-O-acrylate), the fluorescent MIP layer was successfully grafted onto the magnetic core via a surface imprinting technique. The resultant MIP composites showed significan

Composite of CdTe quantum dots and molecularly imprinted polymer as a sensing material for cytochrome c.

A newly designed molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) material was fabricated and successfully utilized as recognition element to develop a quantum dots (QDs) based MIP-coated composite for selective recognition of the template cytochrome c (Cyt). The composites were synthesized by sol-gel reaction (imprinting process). The imprinting process resulted in an increased affinity of the composites toward the corresponding template. The fluorescence of MIP-coated QDs was stronger quenched by the template versus that of non-imprinted polymer (NIP)-coated QDs, which indicated the composites could reco

An optical sensor for the determination of digoxin in serum samples based on a molecularly imprinted polymer membrane.

This paper reports the synthesis and testing of a molecularly imprinted polymer membrane for digoxin analysis. Digoxin-specific bulk polymer was obtained by the UV initiated co-polymerisation of methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate in acetonitrile as porogen. After extracting the template analyte, the ground polymer particles were mixed with plasticizer polyvinyl chloride to form a MIP membrane. A reference polymer membrane was prepared from the same mixture of monomers but with no template. The resultant membrane morphologies were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The i

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Nanoparticles for Reducing Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 Infection.

Molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles (nanoMIPs) were synthesized via solid-phase imprinting for the selective recognition and inhibition of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). An optimized copolymer composition yielded spherical nanoMIPs with a hydrodynamic diameter of 146 ± 4 nm, comparable to that of HSV-2 virions (94 ± 6 nm). Electrochemical analysis showed a 3-fold higher current shift for HSV-2-imprinted nanoMIPs compared to nonimprinted controls, confirming enhanced binding ability toward HSV-2. The nanoMIPs exhibited highly preferential recognition of HSV-2 over related viruses,

Rapid detection of airborne fungal contamination using a molecularly imprinted polymer approach for ergosterol.

Fungi are major biological contaminants in indoor air, and their concentration is typically assessed using the culture-based CFU method, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Ergosterol, a major fungal cell membrane component, has emerged as a preferred target for alternative analytical approaches. However, ergosterol is highly hydrophobic, and specific affinity probes such as antibodies or aptamers have not yet been successfully developed. In this study, we fabricated ergosterol-specific probes using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) immobilized on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and integ

Molecularly imprinted polymer-modified carbon dots as a fluorescent probe for caffeic acid detection.

Caffeic acid is a phenolic acid compound widely present in nature. While beneficial to human health within a certain concentration range, excessive intake may lead to a series of health issues, such as liver and kidney function impairment. Therefore, developing a method for the precise and rapid detection of caffeic acid concentration in serum is of great significance for guiding rational clinical medication, drug monitoring, and daily health management. This study prepared a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) fluorescent probe for caffeic acid detection. Blue fluorescent carbon dots (bCDs) w

Non-invasive electrochemical detection of cortisol in artificial sweat using molecularly imprinted polymer.

Cortisol or its medicinal form hydrocortisone (HCT) in accessible biofluids is widely used as a biomarker of stress and stress-related disorders, including Cushing syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorders, and fibromyalgia. Here, we report a simple nanomaterial-free electrochemical sensing strategy for selective cortisol detection based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) formed directly on indium tin oxide (ITO). The resulting sensor exhibited a wide linear dynamic range (100 pg/mL to 160 ng/mL) in artificial sweat, covering clinically relevant cortisol concent

A Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Nanobodies (nanoMIPs)-Based Electrochemical Sensor for the Detection of Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE) contamination is commonly found on human skin and medical devices. Herein, we present a sensor utilizing molecularly imprinted polymer nanobodies (nanoMIP) for recognition and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to detect S. epidermidis. Sensor manufacturing involves synthesizing nanoMIP via solid-phase synthesis using whole bacteria as templates. Screen-printed gold electrode (AuSPE)-modified 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (MHDA) served to immobilize the nanoMIPs on the sensor surface through an amide bond, with the remaining func

N-C QDs coated with a molecularly imprinted polymer as a fluorescent probe for detection of penicillin.

Many diseases are due to bacterial infections, which are treated by penicillin. Existing methods for penicillin detection have relatively high requirements for sample storage and processing, personnel professionalism, and instruments. Herein, water-soluble N-C quantum dots (QDs) from wheat straw were synthesized in a green way by using an efficient and simple method. The N-C QDs were modified with an imprinted layer by a gel-sol method. Penicillin selectively quenched the fluorescence emission of N-C QDs@MIP, and a linear relationship was obtained in the concentration range of 1.0 × 10-6-15.2

Oral administration of phenylalanine molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) benefits PKU mouse model.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare genetic disorder caused by a defect in the metabolism of phenylalanine (Phe). Currently, the most commonly used treatment for PKU is dietary Phe restriction. Problems associated with Phe restricted diets include lack of universal availability, high treatment costs, and reduced adherence to continued treatment with age and finally the development of psychological and neurological problems in a significant proportion of patients despite early start of treatment. One possible approach to decreasing blood Phe level, is inhibition of GI tract absorption of this amino

Molecularly imprinted polymer grafted on paper and flat sheet for selective sensing and diagnosis: a review.

Molecularly imprinted polymers are efficient and selective adsorbents which act as artificial receptors for desired compounds with the ability to recognize the size, shape, and functional groups of the compounds simultaneously. A molecularly imprinted polymer is prepared by the polymerization of functional monomers around a template (analyte) molecule. Afterward, the removal of the template from the polymer matrix leaves a selective cavity behind. The fabrication and development of molecularly imprinted polymers grew rapidly, due to their low cost, simple preparation, selectivity, sensitivity,

Preparation of a stoichiometric molecularly imprinted polymer for auramine O and application in solid-phase extraction.

We describe a stoichiometric approach to the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers specific for auramine O. Using the stoichiometric interaction in molecular imprinting, no excess of binding sites is necessary and binding sites are only located inside the imprinted cavities. The free base of the template was obtained to facilitate the interaction with the monomers. Itaconic acid was selected as the functional monomer, and stoichiometric ratio of the interaction with the free base was investigated. The molecularly imprinted polymer preparation conditions such as cross-linker, molar ratio,

Development and characterization of an electrochemical sensor for furosemide detection based on electropolymerized molecularly imprinted polymer.

A novel electrochemical sensor based on a molecularly imprinted polymer, poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD), has been developed for selective and sensitive detection of furosemide. The sensor was prepared by incorporating of furosemide as template molecules during the electropolymerization of o-phenylenediamine on a gold electrode. To develop the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), the template molecules were removed from the modified electrode's surface by washing it with 0.25 mol L(-1) NaOH solution. The imprinted layer was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance sp

Development of an enzyme-free glucose sensor using the gate effect of a molecularly imprinted polymer.

The instability of enzymatic glucose sensors has prevented the development of a practical artificial pancreas for diabetic patients. We therefore developed an enzyme-free glucose sensor using the gate effect of a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). This sensor has the advantages of improved stability and a simplified manufacturing procedure. An adduct of glucose and 4-vinylphenylboronic acid (VPBA) was synthesized by esterification and was then purified. The copolymer of the glucose/VPBA adduct and methylene bisacrylamide was grafted onto an indium tin oxide electrode surface. Glucose was was
