Mucinous epithelial neoplasms arising in association with mature teratomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors, but with the exception of a single recent study, their full histologic spectrum, detailed immunophenotype, and association with classic pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) have not been fully studied. Optimizing the diffusion and retention behavior of sodium in the oral cavity is crucial for enhancing the perception of salty taste in food. Salivary mucin plays a pivotal role in modulating aroma perception during dairy consumption. This study investigated the impact of mucin on the release of ten key milk fat-derived aroma compounds (including 3 aldehydes, 3 ketones, and 4 lactones) using headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS). Histological features and mucin characteristics of 53 cases of periampullary carcinoma, a rare group of epithelial tumors is presented. The cases comprised of 17 resected specimens and 36 endoscopic biopsies. Jaundice was the commonest symptom. The mean tumor size was 2 cms diameter (1-6 cms). We describe three cases of mucinous hidradenoma characterized by diffuse and prominent mucinous cell proliferation and discuss the relevant literature.
