People with personality disorders (PDs) are often difficult to reach emotionally in therapy. As music therapy (MT) provides an entry point to emotions and facilitates contact and communication, it is regularly used with this target group. This study presents a case study of a 40-year-old woman diagnosed with a PD not otherwise defined. "Nina" experienced depressive and physical symptoms, including severe anxiety. Previous treatments had failed. In MT, she experienced a sense of safety. Over the course of the treatment, she experimented with making herself heard, learned to listen to herself an

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of virtual group music therapy on apathy in people with Parkinson's disease (PD).
INTRODUCTION: Apathy affects 40% of people with PD, lacks effective therapies, and independently predicts poorer quality of life and greater caregiver burden. Music therapy is the clinical application of music to address a person's physical or emotional needs and is effective in treating apathy in dementia.
METHODS: People with idiopathic PD and apathy (Movement Disorders Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, apathy item ≥ 2) and their caregivers participated in twe

BACKGROUND: Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy with psilocybin is an emerging therapy with great promise for depression, and modern psychedelic therapy (PT) methods incorporate music as a key element. Music is an effective emotional/hedonic stimulus that could also be useful in assessing changes in emotional responsiveness following PT.
METHODS: Brain responses to music were assessed before and after PT using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and ALFF (Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuations) analysis methods. Nineteen patients with treatment-resistant depression underwent two trea

Positive effects of music therapy for people with dementia and their family carers are reported in a growing number of studies. However, small sample sizes or low recruitment rates often limit the success of these research studies. More adequately powered evidence-based studies are needed to impact policy and funding in dementia care. This systematic review examined recruitment strategies in music therapy clinical trials involving people living with dementia and/or their family carers. Eligible studies described enrolment, consent, accrual, or recruitment methods as well as recruitment or cons

UNLABELLED: The purpose of this investigation was to study the effects of Medical Resonance Therapy Music (MRT-Music) upon autonomous innervation of cerebral arteries by examining slow spontaneous oscillations of cerebral blood flow (SSO) using transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD). TCD detects SSO with 3-9 cycles per minute (M-waves) and 0.5-2 cycles per minute (B-waves). The SSO are caused by rhythmic diameter changes of the medium and small cerebral arteries. Six patients aged 24-65 years suffering from tension headache were treated with MRT-Music. Twelve additional patients were examined w

Gynae-oncologic cancer affects the female reproduction system. When cancer treatment can no longer offer a cure, palliative care becomes the focus. This study aimed to understand how music therapy is valuable for women undergoing inpatient gynae-oncologic palliative care in a Singapore hospital since current evidence demonstrated limited knowledge on supportive care for this population. Utilizing a modified grounded theory, participant interviews and therapist reflexive logs generated knowledge on how music therapy was valuable for this population. Women undergoing inpatient gynae-oncology pal

BACKGROUND: Music therapy is the use of music by a trained professional to help people improve their health, emotions or well-being. It can involve listening to music, playing instruments, singing or writing songs as part of therapy. In intensive care settings, music therapy plays a pivotal role in patient-centred care. This study delves into the experiences of critically ill patients, underscoring music's capacity to evoke emotions and transcend linguistic barriers. This study delves into music therapy as a promising intervention that alleviates stress, fosters emotional expression and enhanc

Background and Objectives: Music therapy has been used as a non-pharmacological treatment for neurological conditions, supporting cognitive, psychosocial, behavioural and motor functions. Although it is evidence-based, safe, and cost-effective, music therapy remains uncommon in neurorehabilitation services, largely due to a lack of quality research. This review aims to understand the effect of music therapy on psychological outcomes for neurological conditions using randomised clinical trials (RCTs). OBJECTIVE: Aim: The aim of the paper was to compare the principles of music therapy and psychotherapy, pointing out numerous similarities and differences between these two techniques.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: Resistance is observed, as well as the phenomenon of transference and countertransference. In either method, the therapist is a covered therapeutic mirror for the patient/client. Music therapy, unlike psychotherapy, works almost exclusively on emotions and on the symbolic layer of expression of personality. In the case of music therapy, the verbal layer plays a less s

This study was a two-armed parallel group design aimed at testing real world effectiveness of a music therapy (MT) intervention for children with severe neurological disorders. The control group received only the standard neurorestoration program and the experimental group received an additional MT "Auditory Attention plus Communication protocol" just before the usual occupational and speech therapy. Multivariate Item Response Theory (MIRT) identified a neuropsychological status-latent variable manifested in all children and which exhibited highly significant changes only in the experimental g

OBJECTIVES: Recorded music risks overstimulation in NICUs. The live elements of music such as rhythm, breath, and parent-preferred lullabies may affect physiologic function (eg, heart and respiratory rates, O2 saturation levels, and activity levels) and developmental function (eg, sleep, feeding behavior, and weight gain) in premature infants.
METHODS: A randomized clinical multisite trial of 272 premature infants aged ≥32 weeks with respiratory distress syndrome, clinical sepsis, and/or SGA (small for gestational age) served as their own controls in 11 NICUs. Infants received 3 interventions

Background: Music therapy is a non-pharmacological psychosocial intervention that is increasingly recognised for its role in supporting older adults in acute hospital settings. Engagement with music, whether through passive listening, preferred recorded music, live music, or creative music therapy, has been linked to improvements in behavioural, cognitive, and emotional outcomes during episodes of delirium. Although there are reviews on non-pharmacological approaches to delirium, few have focused specifically on music therapy within acute hospital environments. Methods: This scoping review exa

Epilepsy is a major neurological disorder that affects individuals across all age groups and can significantly impair their quality of life. Although pharmacological treatments are available, there remains a need for complementary non-pharmacological lifestyle interventions. Music-based intervention (MBI) is a possible option, as it is non-invasive, cost-effective, and easily implemented. This scoping review aims to identify and describe MBIs used in the management of epilepsy. A systematic search was conducted from April 9 to June 10, 2025, using two electronic databases: Ovid Medline and Sco
