Genome-Wide Characterization and Heat Responsive Expression Profiling of the HSP10 Co-Chaperonin Gene Family in Brassica juncea.

Heat stress disrupts protein homeostasis, yet the thermoregulatory roles of HSP10/CPN10 co-chaperonins in polyploid crops remain unexplored. This study conducted the first genome-wide characterization of the HSP10 gene family in allotetraploid Brassica juncea to identify heat tolerance candidates. Genome-wide identification of BjuHSP10 genes was performed across A and B subgenomes, followed by phylogenetic, gene structure, duplication, synteny, promoter, and structural analyses. Transcriptional responses were evaluated under moderate (28/24 °C) and severe (36/32 °C) heat stress conditions. Ten

Molecular-cytogenetic characterization of C-genome chromosome substitution lines in Brassica juncea (L.) Czern and Coss.

C genome chromosome substitution lines of B. juncea constitute a key genetic resource for increased genetic diversity and hybrid performance. C genome chromosome substitution lines were found in the progenies of derived B. juncea (2n = 36; AABB), synthesized through hybridization between B. napus and B. carinata. These were originally recognized based on the morphology and genomic in situ hybridization. Genotyping using the Brassica Illumina 60K Infinium SNP array confirmed the presence of C genome chromosomes in a large number of derived B. juncea genotypes. Three whole chromosome substitutio

Limitation of sensitization to injured parts of receptive fields in human skin C-nociceptors.

Unmyelinated cutaneous mechano-heat fibers (CMH) in the peroneal nerve of healthy human volunteers were studied by means of a "marking" technique which allows stable recordings from identified single units over extended periods. Mechanoreceptive field sizes were 105 +/- 13 mm2 in 25 units. These large receptive fields indicate extensive terminal branching of C fibers in the skin of foot and lower leg. Sensitization of CMHs was tested by assessment of thresholds for mechanical (von Frey hair) and heat stimuli before and after topical application of mustard oil (allyl isothiocyanate) and capsaic

Impact of sunflower seed oil versus mustard seed oil on skin barrier function in newborns: a community-based, cluster-randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Natural vegetable oils are widely used for newborn massage in many low resource settings. Animal models indicated that sunflower seed oil (SSO) can accelerate skin barrier recovery following damage, while other oils, including mustard oil (MO), may cause further skin barrier damage. The objective was to compare the effects of two SSO and MO used for routine massage on skin integrity in premature and full-term neonates. METHODS: This community-based cluster randomized controlled trial included 995 neonates assigned to full body massage with sunflower seed oil (SSO, intervention) or

Exploring the bioaccessibility, in vitro colonic fermentation, and the impact on the intestinal microbiota of allyl-and benzyl-isothiocyanate from white and Ethiopian mustard.

The aim of this research was to study the formation and bioaccessibility of allyl- and benzyl-isothiocyanate (ITC) resulting from the gastrointestinal digestion (small and large intestine) of green parts from Ethiopian and white mustard. In addition, a GC-MS methodology was validated to determine these compounds in bioaccessible and non-bioaccessible fraction. Plant clumps were divided into two batches: fresh and freeze-dried samples. ITC bioaccessibility was low in the small intestine, with values ranged between 11 and 53 % and mean values of 26 %. These results are in agreement with the fact

Comparison of natural organic acids and synthetic chelates at enhancing phytoextraction of metals from a multi-metal contaminated soil.

Chemically assisted phytoremediation has been developing to induce accumulation of metals by high biomass plants. Synthetic chelates have shown high effectiveness to reach such a goal, but they pose serious drawbacks in field application due to the excessive amount of metals solubilized. We compared the performance of synthetic chelates with naturally occurring low molecular weight organic acids (LMWOA) in enhancing phytoextraction of metals by Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) from multi-metal contaminated soils. Gallic and citric acids were able to induce removal of Cd, Zn, Cu, and Ni from so

Automated analysis of hypocotyl growth dynamics during shade avoidance in Arabidopsis.

Plants that are adapted to environments where light is abundant are especially sensitive to competition for light from neighboring vegetation. As a result, these plants initiate a series of changes known as the shade avoidance syndrome, during which plants elongate their stems and petioles at the expense of leaf development. Although the developmental outcomes of exposure to prolonged shade are known, the signaling dynamics during the initial exposure of seedlings to shade is less well studied. Here, we report the development of a new software-based tool, called HyDE (Hypocotyl Determining Eng

Phytochemicals mitigation of Brassica napus by IAA grown under Cd and Pb toxicity and its impact on growth responses of Anagallis arvensis.

Beginning of industrialization accelerates the heavy metal pollution in the biosphere. Plant being the immovable entity utilizes different mechanisms to flee from unfavourable conditions. To alleviate toxic impact of metals like cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb), phytohormones such as indole acetic acid (IAA) has been applied exogenously. This manuscript aims to evaluate the significant change occurring in biochemical parameters of Indian mustard (Brassica napus) grown under individual and combined treatments of IAA with Cd and Pb. Herbicidal potential of treated Brassica extracts were evaluated on g

Mustard oil-induced cutaneous inflammation in the pig.

Recent findings indicate that chemical stimulation of the porcine skin with capsaicin evokes a flare response similar to that observed in man. The aim of the present study was to elucidate whether chemical stimulation of cutaneous capsaicin-sensitive nerve endings with mustard oil produces neurogenic inflammatory reactions in the pig. The application of mustard oil onto the abdominal skin of domestic pigs resulted in a pronounced flare response. After a previous intravenous injection of a solution of Evans blue, the skin area in contact with the irritant turned dark blue, indicating a marked e

Transcriptome profiling of genes differentially modulated by sulfur and chromium identifies potential targets for phytoremediation and reveals a complex S-Cr interplay on sulfate transport regulation in B. juncea.

A differential display cDNA-AFLP derived technique was used to identify gene transcripts regulated by chromium (Cr) in relation to sulfur (S) nutrition in Brassica juncea. Twelve-day old plants were grown with 200 μM sulfate (+S), without sulfate (-S), with 200 μM sulfate plus 200 μM chromate (+S+Cr), or without sulfate plus 200 μM chromate (-S+Cr). Forty-four combinations of degenerate primers were assayed, which allowed the detection of 346 Transcript-Derived Fragments (TDFs) differentially regulated by Cr and S at times 0, 10 min, 1 h, 24 h. Eight sulfate transporters were identified, whose
