ADENOMYOEPITHELIOMA WITH CARCINOMA; EPITHELIAL-MYOEPITHELIAL CARCINOMA WITH EARLY PULMONARY METASTASIS.

Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) is a rare variant of breast neoplasm. It is a biphasic tumour characterized by small epithelial-lined spaces with inner luminal cells and outer of abluminal (myoepithelial) cells. Either - or both - of these two cells may rarely undergo malignant transformation. We present a case of a 61-year-old lady who arbored a mass in her right breast. She presented with few left sided pulmonary nodules as well and was initially diagnosed with extensive DCIS on core biopsy. Lung biopsy of nodule was diagnosed as epithelial myoepithelial neoplasm. Ultimately, modified radical mast

Ameloblastic carcinoma of the mandible.

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastic carcinoma is a rare, aggressive odontogenic neoplasm of the jaws in which the epithelial cells exhibit cytologic features of recognizable ameloblastoma and malignancy. Cases with metastasis have been infrequently reported. METHODS: A case of a 64-year-old white woman with mandibular ameloblastic carcinoma with documented distant metastasis is presented. The patient's presenting symptoms included facial asymmetry of the right jaw over 2 months and the development of moderate trismus. Clinical manifestations, pathology, treatment, and biologic behavior are discussed. Th

Metastatic Neoplasms to the Vulva-A Review.

INTRODUCTION: Metastatic neoplasms to the vulva are rare and can pose a diagnostic dilemma. As identification of the primary site can influence patient treatment and prognosis, correct diagnosis is important. METHODS: PubMed was searched for applicable publications using the terms vulva, vulvar neoplasms, metastasis, and vulvar metastasis. RESULTS: Most neoplasms metastatic to the vulva originate from other genital sources; however, extragenital primary neoplasms can also metastasize to the vulva. Vulvar metastases often occur in the setting of widespread disease. CONCLUSIONS: It is importa

Surgical treatment for lung metastasis of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the lung: A case report.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare disease that is considered an intermediate neoplasm, with the risk of recurrence and metastasis. Surgical treatment is the standard therapy for IMT, although there are only a few reports of surgery for lung metastasis of pulmonary IMT. We opine that surgical treatment might be effective not only for localized tumors, but also for cases of lung metastasis of IMT.

Clinicopathologic characteristics of thymic clear cell carcinoma: a case report with literature review.

BACKGROUND: Thymic clear cell carcinoma is a rare mediastinal neoplasm, with only 25 reported cases to date. We report a case of a 45-year-old man with thymic clear cell carcinoma. We think imaging and laboratory tests may be helpful for differential diagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old male was admitted to a local hospital for chest distress with cardiopalmus. CT showed a mediastinal mass. Laboratory examination results were all in the normal range. Histologically, the tumor cells had a clear cytoplasm, and immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for epithelial markers. W

Pigmented adrenocortical carcinoma: case report and review.

Darkly pigmented adrenocortical neoplasms are rare tumors that are often referred to as "black adenomas," indicative of both their pigmented nature and their invariably benign clinical behavior in previously reported cases. We herein describe an exceptional case of a malignant pigmented adrenocortical neoplasm, with late recurrence and metastasis. At age 53, this female patient was diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome and underwent a laparoscopic right adrenalectomy, revealing a 3 cm well-circumscribed, darkly pigmented adrenocortical tumor. The tumor exhibited several atypical histologic feature

Periampullary Carcinoma: Unusual Sites of Metastasis.

BACKGROUND: Periampullary neoplasms include carcinomas of the duodenum, ampulla of Vater, distal common bile duct, and pancreas. The aggressive course of these neoplasms is attributable to the delay in diagnosis, as patients have no symptoms until advanced stages of the disease. More than half of patients have distant metastasis at the time of diagnosis. The most frequent sites of metastasis are the liver, lymph nodes, peritoneum, lung, bone, kidney, and, rarely the skin. CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 45-year-old female patient with adenocarcinoma of the ampulla of Vater metastasizing

Metastatic Disease to a Concurrent Thyroid Neoplasm: A Case Series and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Metastatic disease to the thyroid gland is uncommon but well-described. Metastatic disease to a concurrent primary thyroid neoplasm is a rare phenomenon. We sought to study patients with metastasis to the thyroid with a focus on the histopathologic and clinical features in tumor-to-tumor metastasis. METHODS: We identified a series of patients with metastatic disease to the thyroid, with or without a concurrent primary neoplasm, through a search of the files of the Department of Pathology. All relevant slides were retrieved and reviewed, including routine HE and immunohistochemical

Metastatic breast cancer in regrowth of thyroid lobe after subtotal thyroidectomy - case report.

Breast cancer is the most common malignant neoplasm among women. Metastases to the thyroid are relatively rare. Those lesions annunciate neoplasm dissemination in most cases. Metastatic breast cancer of thyroid lobe regrowth hasn't been described yet. In the article the authors present a case of a 66-year old women with isolated, metachronous breast cancer metastasis in regrowth of the right thyroid lobe. Resection of the right lobe with metastatic tumor was performed with a purpose of total recovery. Despite surgery, multiple bone metastases were detected a few months after. In conclusion, re

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis to a thyroid follicular adenoma as the initial presentation of a colonic adenocarcinoma.

The incidence of thyroid involvement by metastatic disease from distant organs ranges from an average of 3.1% in surgical series to 5.3% in autopsy series. However, the metastasis of one tumor into another (traditionally referred to as 'tumor-to-tumor metastasis') is distinctly uncommon. Typically, they are identified as new manifestations or necropsy findings of a known, pre-existing donor tumor. Herein is described the case of a 59-year-old woman whose thyroid nodule (a follicular adenoma) was resected and found to contain foci of a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma with a morphologic and i

Coexistence of a carotid body tumor and thyroglossal duct carcinoma with cervical lymph node metastasis.

Thyroglossal duct carcinoma is uncommon, occurring in approximately 1% of all thyroglossal duct remnants. This rare neoplasm is characterized by relatively nonaggressive behavior with infrequent lymph nodal spread. Another rare neoplasm of the head and neck region is a carotid body tumor. A 78-year-old woman with a 3-year history of midline and bilateral neck masses was referred to us. Fine needle aspiration biopsies and a computed tomography scan suggested the diagnosis of thyroglossal duct carcinoma with cervical lymph node metastasis. Interestingly, the left-side neck mass was found to be s

Encapsulated thyroid neoplasms with nuclear features of papillary carcinoma: Histological and molecular evidence that subtypes with variable extension of papillary formation may still behave favorably.

Since the definition of "noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features", the evaluation of the tumor capsule and the architectural pattern in encapsulated neoplasms with nuclear features of papillary carcinoma has gained greater importance in the pathologist's practice. The present study aims to expand the concept of non-invasive encapsulated thyroid lesions to neoplasms with variable extent of papillae formation, focusing mainly on histological and molecular characteristics with prognostic significance. We retrospectively evaluated the anatomopathological variab

Recurrent adenocarcinoma of the fallopian tube presenting as leptomeningeal carcinomatosis.

Primary adenocarcinoma of the fallopian tube is a rare malignant neoplasm of the female reproductive system. Unusual patterns of metastasis may be observed. Report is made of a patient with recurrent adenocarcinoma of the fallopian tube, which presented as leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, as a first site of distant metastasis three years after initial diagnosis. The diagnosis was made by cytologic examination of the cerebrospinal fluid. No other sites of distant metastasis were present.

Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm with disseminated peritoneal adenomucinosis involving the uterus, mimicking primary mucinous endometrial adenocarcinoma: a case report.

We present a patient with a low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm, resulting in disseminated peritoneal adenomucinosis (pseudomyxoma peritonei) with uterine involvement, and mimicking primary mucinous endometrial adenocarcinoma. On immunohistochemistry, neoplastic glands were cytokeratin 7-negative and cytokeratin 20-positive, indicating a gastrointestinal origin rather than a primary ovarian mucinous neoplasm. A diagnosis of uterine metastasis of appendiceal origin was made, based on the constellation of clinicopathological findings, that is, preceding appendiceal neoplasm, peritoneal invol

Retropharyngeal lymph node metastasis from olfactory neuroblastoma: A report of two cases.

Olfactory neuroblastoma is a rare, malignant neoplasm arising from the olfactory epithelium. It has an aggressive biological behavior that is characterized by local recurrence, atypical distant metastasis, and poor long-term prognosis. The incidence of cervical lymph node metastasis in olfactory neuroblastoma is variable, and treatment modalities are controversial. Moreover, few reports have been published concerning retropharyngeal lymph node metastasis from olfactory neuroblastoma. We present two cases of olfactory neuroblastoma with retropharyngeal lymph node metastasis. In addition, we pro
