AIMS AND BACKGROUND: We report an extremely rare case of cervical chordoma presenting with impaired voice.
METHOD: Case report and a review of the literature concerning the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of a cervical chordoma.
RESULTS: A singing teacher complaining of dysphonia was examined and surgically treated for a retropharyngeal extension of a cervical chordoma. A local recurrence was treated with proton beam therapy. Among primary malignant tumors of bone, chordomas account for 3-4% of all cases. Chordoma is typically a locally aggressive tumor with a high propensity for loca

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare neoplasm that commonly originates in the pleura. Extrapleural locations are rare and for this reason sometimes difficult to diagnose. Malignant forms with local recurrence or distant metastases have been reported, also as a consequence of inappropriate treatment. In this article, we report the case of an SFT of the lower leg in a 37-year-old man. Leg SFT is a rare occurrence, and differential diagnosis may be difficult because they can mimic a variety of benign and malignant mesenchymal tumors; immunohistochemical analysis for CD34, CD99, vimentin, and Bc

Acinic cell carcinoma is a rare, low-grade malignant salivary gland neoplasm. Approximately, 20% of patients experience local recurrence and 10% distant metastasis, often many years after initial presentation. We present a case of widespread cutaneous metastasis from acinic cell carcinoma arising in a 59-year-old woman with a history of acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland 20 years prior to her cutaneous disease. To our knowledge, is the first report of widespread cutaneous metastasis from acinic cell carcinoma.

Primary cutaneous leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon malignant neoplasm with a predilection for the lower extremities. A retrospective study of 4 cases was undertaken to analyse the clinicopathological characteristics and immunohistochemical profile of these neoplasms with emphasis on prognosis. Two male and 2 female patients aged between 49 and 80 years presented with painless tumours involving the lower lip, the chin, the scrotum and the shoulder. Histological examination of the initial biopsy specimen established a diagnosis of cutaneous leiomyosarcoma. All cases co-expressed smooth muscle actin

Primary epithelial neoplasms of the salivary gland in children are uncommon but are well recognized and occur principally in the major salivary glands. The purpose of this report is to document our experience with an adenocarcinoma of the buccal submucosa (one of several sites of minor salivary gland tissue) that metastasized to multiple bones as the initial sites of distant disease after a local recurrence. The clinical history, imaging studies, and microscopic sections including immunoperoxidase studies were evaluated from the primary tumor, local recurrence, and a metastatic lesion from the

BACKGROUND: Giant cell tumor (GCT) is a benign neoplasm that most commonly arises in the long bones; when these tumors rarely present as primary spinal bone tumors, they may exhibit local aggressive behavior, warranting extensive surgical resection.
CASE DESCRIPTION: An 11-year-old female presented with lower back, radicular pain, and paraparesis. The magnetic resonance imaging showed an L5 tumor with an extension into the spinal canal. Total en bloc spondylectomy of the L5, vertebra revealed a GCT. Postoperatively, the patient did well for 3 months.
CONCLUSION: GCTs of bone are aggressive b

BACKGROUND: Management of diminutive pharyngeal neoplasms is controversial. Thus, we conducted a single-center, prospective pilot study to investigate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic excision with cold forceps biopsy (CFB) of these lesions.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty-nine lesions endoscopically diagnosed with narrow-band imaging as pharyngeal neoplasms of 3 mm or smaller were excised with CFB using jumbo biopsy forceps (cap diameter 2.8 mm, jaw volume 12.4 mm3 ). The primary outcome was endoscopically determined local remnant/recurrence rate 3 months after CFB. The secondary outcomes

Verrucous carcinoma of bilharzial bladder, a rare neoplasm, is regarded as a distinct variant of squamous cell carcinoma. We studied 37 cases treated with cystectomy in the past 15 years. Despite previous reports of no local invasion and no local recurrence or distant metastasis postoperatively, we observed 60% of focal tumour transformation into invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Such transformation and dedifferentiation to squamous cell carcinoma can be expected in a high proportion of these tumours. The survival rate in the invasive cases was approximately the same as in squamous cell carcin

Clear cell sarcoma-like tumor of the gastrointestinal tract (CCSLGT) is a rare malignant neoplasm arising within the wall of the small bowel, stomach, or large bowel, predominantly in children and young adults. It is an aggressive tumor with a high rate of local recurrence, metastases, and early death from disease. Histologically, it is composed of relatively monomorphic ovoid or round cells with clear to eosinophilic cytoplasm, arranged in sheets and sometimes papillary or alveolar architectures, often with CD68-positive osteoclast-like giant cells in variable numbers, and is associated with

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare vulvovaginal, perineal or pelvic mesenchymal neoplasm with a marked tendency to local recurrence but does not metastasize. A case of an aggressive angiomyxoma of vulva in a 39-years-old women with an illness of one year prior to examination, with a slow and progressive growth of the left vulvar region, without other symptoms. During physical examination, a piriform tumor of 15x10 cm was found, located on the left labia majora, soft tissue dependent. Wide resection of the tumor were performed. Hystopathology reported an aggressive angiomyxoma of the vulva, with

Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare, slow-growing mesenchymal neoplasm of vulvo-perineal region. Although AA is common in females of reproductive age, only a few cases during pregnancy have been documented in the English literature. It carries a high risk of local recurrence but rarely metastasizes. The high recurrence rate can partially be due to inadequate excision, which may be due to an incorrect preoperative diagnosis. We present a case of 25-year-old pregnant female presenting with a painless and soft mass attached to left labia majora by a stalk. This mass was clinically thought to be

BACKGROUND: Rhabdomyosarcoma is a soft tissue neoplasm that usually arises in the head and neck region and genitourinary tract. Skin metastasis of rhabdomyosarcoma is extremely rare; of thirteen cases reported in the literature, most were children younger than 10 years and only three cases have been reported in adults.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old Moroccan man was admitted with a right orbital tumor. The tumor was excised and histopathology examination confirmed a diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma. The patient was treated with chemotherapy, but local recurrence occurred one year later. The pa

Pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS) is a rare cutaneous/subcutaneous neoplasm of purported mesenchymal differentiation that exists along a clinicopathologic spectrum with atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX). While PDS and AFX share histopathologic and immunohistochemical features, PDS exhibits deeper tissue invasion and has a higher rate of metastasis and local recurrence than AFX. Given its aggressive clinical course, early recognition and clinical management of PDS are essential for optimizing patient outcomes. This review aims to provide a brief overview of the clinicopathologic and molecular feature

We report the case of a 64-year-old woman with a mediastinal relapse of a uterine cervix cancer with positive human papillomavirus, an unusual site of recurrence. She consulted because of solid and liquid dysphagia of sudden appearance. Endoscopic study and non-contrast-enhanced CT showed intraluminal esophageal stenosis with a retrograde esophageal distension. 18F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated an infiltrating hypermetabolic lesion in posterior mediastinum, middle and lower esophagus, and stomach, with no signs of local or regional relapse of the uterine neoplasm.

Ossifying fibromyxoid tumors are rare soft-tissue neoplasms, usually with an indolent course. However, atypical/malignant variants have been described, showing either local recurrence after complete excision or metastasis to the lungs, mediastinum, adrenals, or soft tissue. We report the case of an ossifying fibromyxoid tumor of the left ankle that metastasized to the lung and thyroid gland 12 years after the initial diagnosis and surgical treatment. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of this neoplasm metastasizing to the thyroid gland.

Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare endocrine neoplasm that accounts for <1% of cases of primary hyperparathyroidism. The management of parathyroid carcinoma is a challenge due to the high rate of local recurrence of the tumour. We report the case of a middle-aged north Indian woman who presented with recurrent primary hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid carcinoma. She presented with a recurrent palpable hard neck mass and underwent radical dissection of the neck six times. At the time of writing this report, she was referred for external beam radiotherapy to the neck. Parathyroid carcinoma is

Giant cell tumour (GCT) is a primary benign neoplasm of bone. It is classically described as a locally invasive tumour that occurs close to the joint of a mature bone. It accounts for 5% of all skeletal tumours. It usually originates from long bones. Giant Cell Tumour of the small bones of the hand and foot are relatively uncommon. Giant Cell Tumour of talus is a rare occurrence. We report a rare presentation of giant cell tumour of the talus in a 62-year-old farmer treated by talectomy and tibiocalcaneal fusion, who later presented with features suggestive of recurrence and secondaries in che

Solitary fibrous tumor is an unusual spindle cell neoplasm that usually occurs in the pleura but has also been described in other sites. Renal presentation is rare and only 38 cases of SFT of the kidney have been described until now. Up to 90% of the tumors have benign characteristics. Local retroperitoneal recurrence is extremely rare. We report a case of a large malignant solitary fibrous tumor recurrence after the surgical excision of the primary tumor. Histological examination of the specimen confirmed the diagnosis by revealing highly positive reaction of the neoplasmatic cells for viment
