Relationship between Circle of Willis Variations and Cerebral or Cervical Arteries Stenosis Investigated by Computer Tomography Angiography and Multitask Convolutional Neural Network.

Circle of Willis (CoW) is the most critical collateral pathway that supports the redistribution of blood supply in the brain. The variation of CoW is closely correlated with cerebral hemodynamic and cerebral vessel-related diseases. But what is responsible for CoW variation remains unclear. Moreover, the visual evaluation for CoW variation is highly time-consuming. In the present study, based on the computer tomography angiography (CTA) dataset from 255 patients, the correlation between the CoW variations with age, gender, and cerebral or cervical artery stenosis was investigated. A multitask

Application of high resolution computed tomography image assisted classification model of middle ear diseases based on 3D-convolutional neural network.

OBJECTIVES: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) and middle ear cholesteatoma (MEC) are the 2 most common chronic middle ear diseases. In the process of diagnosis and treatment, the 2 diseases are prone to misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis due to their similar clinical manifestations. High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) can clearly display the fine anatomical structure of the temporal bone, accurately reflect the middle ear lesions and the extent of the lesions, and has advantages in the differential diagnosis of chronic middle ear diseases. This study aims to develop a deep learning

Myoelectric control of a computer animated hand: a new concept based on the combined use of a tree-structured artificial neural network and a data glove.

This paper proposes a new learning set-up in the field of control systems for multifunctional hand prostheses. Two male subjects with a traumatic one-hand amputation performed simultaneous symmetric movements with the healthy and the phantom hand. A data glove on the healthy hand was used as a reference to train the system to perform natural movements. Instead of a physical prosthesis with limited degrees of freedom, a virtual (computer-animated) hand was used as the target tool. Both subjects successfully performed seven different motoric actions with the fingers and wrist. To reduce the trai

A deep transfer learning-based convolution neural network model for COVID-19 detection using computed tomography scan images for medical applications.

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has become a critical and extreme epidemic because of its international dissemination. COVID-19 is the world's most serious health, economic, and survival danger. This disease affects not only a single country but the entire planet due to this infectious disease. Illnesses of Covid-19 spread at a much faster rate than usual influenza cases. Because of its high transmissibility and early diagnosis, it isn't easy to manage COVID-19. The popularly used RT-PCR method for COVID-19 disease diagnosis may provide false negatives. COVID-19 can be detected non-invasively using

Explainable 3D VGG-style convolutional neural network for pediatric hydrocephalus detection on computed tomography: A segmentation-free and fully volumetric deep learning framework.

Pediatric hydrocephalus is commonly assessed on computed tomography (CT) using manual two-dimensional indices that incompletely reflect the ventricular system. We developed and evaluated an explainable, segmentation-free three-dimensional convolutional neural network (3D CNN) for automated hydrocephalus detection on pediatric CT. Ninety-eight pediatric CT scans were included (48 hydrocephalus, 50 normal), distributed across four age groups: <1 year (n = 24), 1-5 years (n = 24), 5-10 years (n = 19), and 10-15 years (n = 31). Diagnoses were established by experienced radiologists using Evans Ind

GADNN: a revolutionary hybrid deep learning neural network for age and sex determination utilizing cone beam computed tomography images of maxillary and frontal sinuses.

INTRODUCTION: The determination of identity factors such as age and sex has gained significance in both criminal and civil cases. Paranasal sinuses like frontal and maxillary sinuses, are resistant to trauma and can aid profiling. We developed a deep learning (DL) model optimized by an evolutionary algorithm (genetic algorithm/GA) to determine sex and age using paranasal sinus parameters based on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: Two hundred and forty CBCT images (including 129 females and 111 males, aged 18-52) were included in this study. CBCT images were captured using the New

Deep learning approaches using 2D and 3D convolutional neural networks for generating male pelvic synthetic computed tomography from magnetic resonance imaging.

PURPOSE: The improved soft tissue contrast of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compared to computed tomography (CT) makes it a useful imaging modality for radiotherapy treatment planning. Even when MR images are acquired for treatment planning, the standard clinical practice currently also requires a CT for dose calculation and x-ray-based patient positioning. This increases workloads, introduces uncertainty due to the required inter-modality image registrations, and involves unnecessary irradiation. While it would be beneficial to use exclusively MR images, a method needs to be employed to es
