STUDY DESIGN: DNA ploidy profiles plus seven direct and three derived nuclear features were obtained in a series of 120 melanocytic skin neoplasms (30 dysplastic nevi [DN], 30 melanomas [MM], 60 compound nevi [CN]) and the results compared.

The lines of Blaschko represent one of the cutaneous patterns of mosaicism followed by various skin disorders. Developmental abnormalities affecting other tissues derived from the embryonic ectoderm and mesoderm are occasionally associated. We describe a 30-year-old man with depigmented, bilateral hypertrichosis and dilated follicular orifices following Blaschko's lines associated with cerebral and ocular malformations. The findings suggest a previously unreported neurocutaneous, autosomal lethal gene syndrome from the group of epidermal naevus syndromes.

Benign nevus cell aggregates (NCAs) in lymph nodes usually present as intracapsular or trabecular collections of small, uniform melanocytes that resemble those seen in intradermal melanocytic nevi. A total of 85 skin biopsies were analyzed to see the pattern of skin disorders in Kathmandu Valley. Clinico-histopathological correlation was done to see for the inconsistency between clinical and histopathological diagnosis and also to analyse for the false positive diagnosis of melanoma in such lesions. The frequency with which malignant melanomas arise in association with preexisting melanocytic nevi has been studied extensively. We opted to evaluate new aspects of this association. In particular, we addressed the relative proportions of acquired versus congenital nevi involved and categorized the acquired nevi according to morphological type. We report 4 cases of a naevocellular naevus variant containing abundant amounts of mucinous matrix. The mucinous matrix was Alcian blue (pH 2.5) and Halle's colloidal iron positive and mucicarmine and PAS negative. When the blocks of tumours were cut down, regions typical of common intradermal naevi were found in all 4 cases. The differential diagnosis with mucinous carcinoma of the skin and myxoid malignant melanoma is discussed.
