Nevus spilus, also known as speckled lentiginous nevus, is a nevoid disorder characterized by hyperpigmented macules or papules scattered over a background of tan pigmentation. Although nevus spilus is mainly of cosmetic concern, malignant melanoma may rarely develop in the lesions. Although classically not mentioned as a hairy nevus, a few reports in literature mention overlying hypertrichosis in lesions of nevus spilus. We hereby report four cases of nevus spilus without malignant change with overlying terminal hairs that arose mainly from the background pigmented area.

Dermoscopy is a very useful technique for the analysis of pigmented skin lesions. It represents a link between clinical and histological views, permitting an earlier diagnosis of skin melanoma. PURPOSE: To report a case of "posterior scleral melanocytosis," a pigmented lesion of the posterior sclera that clinically resembles a flat choroidal nevus.
METHODS: Case report of a patient with posterior scleral melanocytosis. Multimodal imaging, including swept source optical coherence tomography, was used to demonstrate the scleral location of the pigmented lesion and to distinguish its features from a typical choroidal nevus present in the same eye.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common of all skin cancers and the most prevalent one among Caucasians. Rarely, these tumors are seen in other races. We report a 77-year-old Korean woman who presented with multiple darkly pigmented enlarging nodules on her scalp, face, trunk, and extremities. We report three cases of alopecia areata occurring around central, pigmented nevi. The histologic appearance of the central nevus was that of the halo nevus. Removal of the nevus did not appear to alter the natural course of the alopecia. Histochemical studies showed a substantial increase of acid mucopolysaccharides in the dermis in each case.

INTRODUCTION: "Café au lait" spots (CLS) are pigmented skin lesions principally located at the trunk and the limbs. Histologically, CLSs consist in an excessive pigmentation of the epidermis, with no risk of malignant transformation. The "kissing" nevus is a rare pigmented congenital nevus affecting both lower and upper eyelids in a mirror layout. As other nevi, it presents a theoretical risk of malignant transformation. These two pigmented lesions are responsible for aesthetic discomfort when affecting the face.

We studied six cases of heavily pigmented melanocytic lesions with features of blue nevi within the dermis, but with an additional junctional dendritic component. This compound variant of blue nevus is an uncommon lesion that has not been previously identified as a distinct histologic entity. Of several pigmented vulvar lesions, the dysplastic nevus, a know precursor of malignant melanoma, has been described only twice. A case of malignant melanoma in the thymus is reported. Diagnostic imaging demonstrated a left anterior mediastinal mass in a patient with giant pigmented nevus without malignant change. Histologic and cytologic specimens obtained from the tumor revealed that the tumor was malignant melanoma. Surgery revealed malignant melanoma in the left lobe of the thymus. Many cell nests of pigmented nevi were observed throughout the thymus. The malignant melanoma was thought to have originated from the nevocellular nevus in the thymus. This is the first report of malignant melanoma in the thymus.

BACKGROUND: Melanocytoma (magnocellular nevus) is a jet-black benign lesion histologically composed of polygonal tumor cells with small, inconspicuous nuclei and abundant cytoplasm. Melanocytomas in general are rare. Most cases occur in the optic nerve head. An exceptionally rare example of nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome occurring unilaterally is presented, along with a review of the syndrome.
