Primary cutaneous follicle center lymphoma (PCFCL) is an indolent variant of follicular lymphoma (FL) with limited information available on the genetic background of the disease. Forty-two specimens from oropharyngeal (tonsil and base of tongue) squamous cell carcinoma patients (SCC) were studied for presence of HPV 16 by in situ hybridization and by immunohistochemistry for p53 and Cyclin D1 protein overexpression. Thirty-one per cent of cases were HPV-16 positive, which correlates with the prevalence reported worldwide. 74% of cases showed p53 protein overexpression and 79% showed Cyclin D1 overexpression. HSP-70, C-myc and HLA-DR were examined in patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma metastatic to lymph nodes.
