Nefopam for the prevention of perioperative shivering: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Shivering is a frequent complication following surgery and anaesthesia. A large variety of studies have been reported that nefopam may be efficacious for the prevention and treatment of perioperative shivering. Regrettably, there is still no conclusion of the efficacy and safety of nefopam for the prevention of perioperative shivering. The aim of this analysis is to evaluate the efficacy of nefopam for the prevention of perioperative shivering in patients undergoing different types of anaesthesia compared with placebo group and other active interventions. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE,

Amitriptyline for neuropathic pain in adults.

BACKGROUND: This is an updated version of the original Cochrane review published in Issue 12, 2012. That review considered both fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain, but the effects of amitriptyline for fibromyalgia are now dealt with in a separate review.Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that is widely used to treat chronic neuropathic pain (pain due to nerve damage). It is recommended as a first line treatment in many guidelines. Neuropathic pain can be treated with antidepressant drugs in doses below those at which the drugs act as antidepressants. OBJECTIVES: To assess the analgesi

The safety and efficacy of perioperative nefopam for analgesia in spine surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

OBJECTIVE: Moderate-to-severe pain is common after spine surgery. While opioids remain standard analgesia, their adverse effects have prompted opioid-sparing strategies. This systematic review evaluates the safety and efficacy of nefopam, a non-opioid and non-NSAID, as adjuvant perioperative analgesia in spine surgery. METHODS: Medline, Embase, Scopus and Cochrane databases were searched from inception to May 9, 2025. RevMan V5.4 was used to analyse mean differences (MD) or standardised mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for continuous outcomes and risk ratios (RR) with

Efficacy of pharmacotherapies in improving liver fibrosis among patients with MASLD and fibrosis stages of F1-F3: systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Metabolism-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is one of the most prevalent chronic liver diseases worldwide. In recent years, although a network meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of different drugs for patients with MASLD, it did not provide the specific dosage of the drugs and could not be accurately applied to the specific population for MASLD and fibrosis stages F1-F3, which greatly affected the extensibility and accuracy of the evidence. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of various pharmacotherapies with different dosages in improving liver fibrosi

The effect of ginsenoside Rg3 combined with chemotherapy on immune function in non-small cell lung cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: The occurrence and development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are closely related to the immune status of the tumor-host. The immunosuppression caused by tumor cells and toxic side effects produced by chemotherapeutic drugs results in a decrease in immune function, ultimately leading to the failure of clinical chemotherapy treatment. Ginsenoside Rg3 has been clinically reported to have positive effects in enhancing immune function in patients. Thus, we screened and evaluated the quality of the evidence regarding the benefits of ginsenoside Rg3 and conducted a meta-analysis t

Xiaoyao Powder in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of liver disease worldwide with alarming prevalence. Due to its complex pathogeneses and considerable individual heterogeneity in disease, there is no specific medication to NAFLD safely and effectively. Therefore, there is a great need to explore complementary and alternative therapies. Xiaoyao Powder (XYP), a classic Chinese formula, has been tremendously applied to gastrointestinal diseases, especially non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, the efficacy and safety of XYP have not been ful

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for dysmenorrhoea.

BACKGROUND: Dysmenorrhoea is a common gynaecological problem consisting of painful cramps accompanying menstruation, which in the absence of any underlying abnormality is known as primary dysmenorrhoea. Research has shown that women with dysmenorrhoea have high levels of prostaglandins, hormones known to cause cramping abdominal pain. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are drugs that act by blocking prostaglandin production. They inhibit the action of cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzyme responsible for the formation of prostaglandins. The COX enzyme exists in two forms, COX-1 and COX-2.

Nedocromil sodium. An updated review of its pharmacological properties and therapeutic efficacy in asthma.

Nedocromil sodium, the disodium salt of a pyranoquinoline dicarboxylic acid, has anti-inflammatory properties in vitro, in animal models of asthma, and in humans, as evidenced by inhibition of inflammatory cell activation and mediator release, early and late allergen-induced bronchoconstriction and airway hyperresponsiveness. Recent therapeutic trials confirm the safety and efficacy of inhaled nedocromil sodium as adjunctive therapy in adult patients whose asthma is not adequately controlled by beta-agonists alone. Nedocromil sodium has also been shown to improve symptoms when added to existin
