BACKGROUND: Atrial fibrillation is globally the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia which increases patient morbidity and mortality, dramatically influencing well-being. Despite substantial efforts, an optimal clinical pathway for chronic atrial fibrillation management has yet to be developed. In recent practice, a multidisciplinary team management has been recommended for patients with atrial fibrillation. However, experiments exploring nurse-led multidisciplinary team management in chronic atrial fibrillation management relative to standard clinical management are still sparse and limit

INTRODUCTION: Emergency departments have an important role in screening for human immunodeficiency virus infection and reducing the morbidity, mortality, and transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus. There are debates about human immunodeficiency virus screening, including opt-in, opt-out, and active choice models. Previous studies have shown that multiple factors affect the patient rate of acceptance, including where, when, and by whom the screening is offered. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to test a team-based triage intervention to improve the amount of HIV tes

A project was undertaken as part of the NHS Executive Strategy for Major Clinical Guidelines, involving the development of national clinical guidelines for the promotion and management of continence by primary health care teams, through the process of managed consensus based on scientific review. The guidelines were then implemented at one urban general practice. This article outlines the development and implementation of the guidelines and describes the study undertaken to evaluate the impact of implementation on clinical outcomes. The study involved a pre-and post-implementation postal surve

A dysregulated host response to infection resulting in life-threatening organ dysfunction defines the onset of sepsis. Unfortunately, sepsis is common, costly, and deadly. The Surviving Sepsis Campaign publishes regularly updated, evidence-informed, detection, and treatment guidelines culminating in time-sensitive care "bundles." The goal of these bundles is to expedite sepsis recognition because it is widely held that early treatment is life-saving. Hospitals are mandated to publicly report their bundle compliance, and this will soon be tied to hospital reimbursement. For these reasons, hospi

OBJECTIVE: As the participation of dental professionals in multidisciplinary care is often limited, instructions on oral health management provided by dental professionals to other professionals are important to achieve transdisciplinary oral health management; however, the effectiveness of such instructions remains unclear. In this longitudinal study, we aimed to determine the impact of oral health management provided by dental professionals and nurses instructed on oral health management by dental professionals on the oral health of inpatients eligible for a Nurition Support Team (NST).

BackgroundNative American (NA) patients experience persistent inequities in advance care planning (ACP) and often present to tertiary centers with critical illness; culturally respectful serious-illness communication is therefore essential in emergency and intensive care settings.InterventionWe developed and implemented a nursing-led, multidisciplinary educational initiative at a large academic medical center serving patients from >50 tribal nations. Informed by a literature review, local practice needs, and expert input from a Native American Patient Experience Ambassador, we created (1) an "

INTRODUCTION: Canadians, particularly those in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) and Nova Scotia (NS), face ongoing challenges in accessing primary care. To address this concern, many jurisdictions have adopted team-based primary care that enables nurses, physicians, and other providers to collaborate in delivering care. Virtual care has been widely integrated to promote efficiency and quality across team-based primary care. Nurses in primary care teams (i.e., nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses) deliver care virtually; however, details of their role enactment remain

Parents of children requiring invasive home mechanical ventilation (IMV) rely on, and are expected to manage, complex home health nursing care teams. However, ubiquitous shortages in the pediatric home healthcare workforce leave most families with incomplete nursing support, with negative impacts on child and family well-being. Parents report feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and unsupported by community healthcare services. Parent-to-parent support programs in other populations of children with disabilities have been shown to embolden parents with practical solutions, emotional support, and soci

INTRODUCTION: Nursing home residents represent a particularly vulnerable population experiencing high risk of unplanned hospital admissions, but few interventions have proved effective in reducing this risk. The aim of this research will be to verify the effects of a hospital-based multidisciplinary mobile unit (MMU) team intervention delivering urgent care to nursing home residents directly at their bedside.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Four nursing homes based in the Parma province, in Northern Italy, will be involved in this prospective, pragmatic, multicentre, 18-month quasiexperimental study (s

Background: Burnout, moral distress, compassion fatigue, and posttraumatic stress disorder are concerns for health-care staff. Due to the high mental, physical, and emotional demands of the pediatric hematology/oncology profession, workplace supports should be in place to address the needs of the staff. A nurse-led support program is one strategy to enhance staff well-being. Methods: The Hematology/Oncology/Stem Cell Transplant Advancing Resiliency Team (HART) is a nurse-led peer-to-peer on-site support program for multidisciplinary staff caring for hematology/oncology patients. BACKGROUND: People with intellectual disabilities are at increased risk of abuse which may not always be responded to appropriately. This study therefore sought to explore how nurses and social workers make decisions when safeguarding adults with intellectual disabilities.
METHOD: A situational analysis grounded theory study. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with social workers (n = 16) and community nurses (n = 9) working in Community Learning (Intellectual) Disability Teams in Wales. Data were transcribed and analysed thematically and cartographically in keeping with situational a

BACKGROUND: The quality and efficiency of operating room nurses' work are directly related to patient safety, surgical success rates, and the overall medical quality of the hospital. In the context of a global shortage of nursing human resources, enhancing the job performance of operating room nurses is critically important. Team psychological safety, occupational coping efficacy, and job satisfaction are important factors affecting the job performance of operating room nurses. However, limited research has examined the interrelationships among these factors specifically within this specialize
