All the Better to Taste You With, My Dear: ED Management of Mammalian Bites.

Mammal bites account for over 5 million visits to Emergency Departments (EDs) annually. Nurse Practitioners (NPs) need to stay abreast of current guidelines, changes to antibiotic regimens that are now most effective, and understand in what circumstances collaboration with other specialists is indicated. It is not enough to care for the wound, itself, but rather understand in what presentations additional care may be needed despite the fact that there is no clear evidence at the time of evaluation of the need for advanced care. Additionally, NPs should understand what resources are available w

The condition is one of extreme poverty and affects public health care costs. The risk of mortality and morbidity is high. Together with the synergy between health care institutions and targeted policies, Third Sector Associations are fundamental. The nurse is crucial in responding to the needs of the most fragile individuals by ensuring an integrated approach to care. The Como Services for Serious Marginalization are concerned with taking charge of and satisfying

Nursing and Chaplain Partnership for Pain Management: A Survey of Nurses.

PURPOSE: Pain is a universal experience for hospitalized patients, with physical, psychological, spiritual, and cognitive implications. As hospitals seek to identify nonpharmaceutical options for managing acute pain, the role of chaplains has been overlooked. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perceptions of nurses regarding chaplain involvement in pain management. METHODS: A survey was distributed to nurses to determine if they would request spiritual care services in various patient and family scenarios. Respondents were dichotomized into two groups based on self-report of whethe

Factors predicting clinical nurses' willingness to care for Ebola virus disease-infected patients: A cross-sectional, descriptive survey.

The purpose of this study was to identify factors predicting clinical nurses' willingness to care for Ebola virus disease (EVD)-infected patients. Data were collected from 179 nurses employed at 10 hospitals in Korea using self-reporting questionnaires. Only 26.8% of the participants were willing to care for EVD-infected patients. Factors predicting their willingness to provide care were their belief in public service, risk perception, and age. Nurses' willingness to provide care was high when their belief in public service was high, low when their risk perception was high, and low as their ag

[The Promotion of Resources Integration in Long-Term Care Service: The Experience of Taipei City Hospital].

The home-based medical care integrated plan under Taiwan National Health Insurance has changed from paying for home-based medical care, home-based nursing, home-based respiratory treatment, and palliative care to paying for a single, continuous home-based care service package. Formerly, physician-visit regulations limited home visits for home-based nursing to providing medical related assessments only. This limitation not only did not provide practical assistance to the public but also caused additional problems for those with mobility problems or who faced difficulties in making visits hospit

Nurses' perceptions of mental healthcare in primary-care settings in Kenya.

Kenya maintains an extraordinary treatment gap for mental health services because the need for and availability of mental health services are extraordinarily misaligned. One way to narrow the treatment gap is task-sharing, where specialists rationally distribute tasks across the health system, with many responsibilities falling upon frontline health workers, including nurses. Yet, little is known about how nurses perceive task-sharing mental health services. This article investigates nurses' perceptions of mental healthcare delivery within primary-care settings in Kenya. We conducted a cross-s

Workplace violence.

The purpose of this study is to investigate emergency department (ED) workplace violence and assess staff perceptions of safety. Healthcare workers, in particular emergency care professionals, are often the recipients of workplace violence. The majority of staff (73%) reported that they felt safe most of the time or always, and 8% responded that they never or rarely felt physically safe in the ED. Most of the sites (94%) reported the presence and availability of in-hospital security 24 hr per day. In total, more than 3,461 attacks were reported by the respondents over 5 years, with a median of

Nurse-Led Algorithm-Based Early Mobilization Protocol for Reducing Post-Intensive Care Syndrome in Intensive Care Unit Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) is a significant challenge for cardiac surgery survivors. While early mobilization (EM) is recommended, there is a lack of evidence regarding the effectiveness and safety of nurse-led, algorithm-based protocols in cardiovascular intensive care units (ICUs). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of a nurse-led algorithm-based EM protocol on PICS scores, psychological distress (anxiety and depression), sleep quality, and nursing satisfaction in patients following cardiac surgery. METHODS: A randomized controlled pretest-posttest study was conducted

Establishing a mobile coronary care service in a rural setting.

A mobile coronary care unit (MCCU) service was introduced at Sligo General Hospital in 1992. Initially, a medical registrar and CCU staff nurse drove a fully equipped MCCU car to the patient location (Phase 1). When the patient was medically stabilised and had received thrombolysis, if appropriate, the doctor and nurse travelled with him in the conventional ambulance to the hospital. Subsequently, on a pilot basis, the doctor, nurse and equipment were transported by taxi to the patient (Phase 2). Since 1995, the MCCU service has been provided routinely by Sligo General Hospital (Phase 3). Duri
