Multifocal odontoblastic dysplasia in a dog.

A two-year-old Boerboel dog presented for a discolored left maxillary canine tooth. Dental radiographs revealed abnormally mineralized pulp within the discolored tooth. Similar radiographic findings were also seen in both maxillary third incisor teeth and in the remaining canine teeth to varying degrees. The discolored tooth was treated by surgical extraction and histopathology revealed abnormal dentin deposition within the canal indicative of dentin dysplasia. Although not previously documented in the dog, the pulpal changes in multiple teeth of the dog reported here were similar to those des

Segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia presenting with facial hypertrichosis, commissural lip clefting, and hyperlinear palms.

Segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia is a rare disorder that unilaterally affects the maxilla causing facial asymmetry and presenting with hypertrichosis and hypoplastic or missing teeth in the affected area. Lip clefting has only been reported in one other case. We report a case of segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia presenting with hypertrichosis of the face, hyperlinear palms with faint erythema, and commissural lip clefting.

What syndrome is this? Rabson-Mendenhall syndrome.

Individuals have increasingly high expectations of return to activity following total hip replacement (THR) surgery. The current literature demonstrates marked improvements in pain following THR. However, there is limited evidence showing objective improvement in daily activity. This randomized pilot trial aimed to determine the effect of an intervention where outdoor walking distance is used as a goal to increase daily activity of older adults using a commercial activity monitor at 3 to 6 months post THR. Findings suggested that the participants in the intervention group had higher activity l

Abnormal odontogenesis: report of case.

All that can be concluded from the available information is that the lesion was a variation on the spectrum of developmental anomalies without a known etiology or a conclusive diagnosis. This lesion is most probably related to an aborted formation of a maxillary first premolar or immature complex odontoma. More information could have been obtained, if the surgery had been delayed until further development of the lesion and of the patient's dentition had occurred; but this was not feasible, since definitive treatment was required. Further radiographic and clinical follow-up may assist in confir

Incidental finding of segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia during orthodontic treatment: a case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia (SOD) is a rare developmental disorder, with fewer than 70 cases reported in the literatur … ts the importance of distinguishing SOD from other conditions such as fibrous dysplasia or regional odontodysplasia. Management is multidisciplinary and must be individualized according to growth and clinical presentation, combining orthodontic, surgical, and prosthetic approaches. Early recognition and coordinated care are essential to optimize functional and ae …

Bioarchaeological investigation of individuals with suspected multibacillary leprosy from the mediaeval leprosarium of St Mary Magdalen, Winchester, Hampshire, UK.

Introduction. We have examined four burials from the St Mary Magdalen mediaeval leprosarium cemetery in Winchester, Hampshire, UK. One (Sk.8) was a male child, two (Sk.45 and Sk.52) were adolescent females and the fourth (Sk.512) was an adult male. The cemetery was in use between the 10th and 12th centuries. All showed skeletal lesions of leprosy. Additionally, one of the two females (Sk.45) had lesions suggestive of multi-cystic tuberculosis and the second (Sk.52) of leprogenic odontodysplasia (LO), a rare malformation of the roots of the permanent maxillary incisors.Gap statement. Relatively…

Clinical and radiographic delineation of odontochondrodysplasia.

The association of dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI) with a distinct form of chondrodysplasia in a boy was reported by Goldblatt et al. [1991; Am J Med Genet 39:170-172] and has been given the name of Goldblatt syndrome or odontochondrodysplasia (ODCD; OMIM#184260). Since the original description, only four further individuals have been reported (one sib pair and two unrelated cases). We report on an additional six individuals, including a second sib pair (brother and sister), with clinical and radiographic features that cluster and thus confirm the nosologic status of this entity. The main radio

[Hair dysplasia in oculo-dento-digital syndrome. Apropos of a mother-daughter case].

Oculo-dento-digital syndrome (SODD) as defined by Meyer-Schwickerath in 1957 is a rare entity (84 cases) which belongs to ectodermal dysplasias. It consists of: the characteristic features (long face, pinched nose); syndactyly; ocular, dental and bone abnormalities. This entity is usually transmitted on the autosomal dominant mode. We report two cases (a mother and daughter) with polymalformations which we classed as SODD. Furthermore, agenesis of lacrimal duct and genitourinary abnormalities were noted. The mother had a very particular complex hair shaft dysplasia (incomplete pili torti, "tig

Oral and Dental Examinations Findings in 15 Zoo Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and Black-Tufted Marmosets (Callithrix penicillata).

As part of an annual wellness evaluation, we performed oral and dental examination under general anesthesia in 7 zoo Bolivian squirrel monkeys aged 10 and 15 years, and 8 zoo black-tufted marmosets aged between 1 and 7 years. No oral discomfort was observed in any animal prior to the procedure. Apart from dilacerated roots of second mandibular incisor teeth in Bolivian squirrel monkeys and one case of presumably odontodysplasia in a black-tufted marmoset, no major variations in number and shape of the present teeth and roots were revealed. All 15 animals had gingivitis, but periodontitis was o…

Segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia: a case report and review of the literature.

Segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia (SOD) is a rare, unilateral developmental disorder of the maxilla involving abnormal growth and maturation of the bone, lack of one or both premolars, altered primary molar structure, delayed tooth eruption, and fibrous hyperplasia of the gingiva. In this, the twenty-third reported case of SOD, the literature is reviewed, and the clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic data are described. Computed tomographic scans of this case showed that the involved segment of the maxilla extends mesiodistally from the permanent cuspid to the mesial portion of the fir

New Immunohistochemical Findings on Amelogenin and Dentin Sialophosphoprotein in Genetic Tooth Diseases.

OBJECTIVE: Diseases that affect teeth can change their structure and the distribution and expression of amelogenin (AMELX) and dentin-sialophosphoprotein (DSPP). This study aimed to conduct a histopathological, ultrastructural, and immunohistochemical comparison of AMELX and DSPP in teeth from patients with amelogenesis imperfecta (AI), dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI), osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), regional odontodysplasia (ROD), and control teeth. Additionally, a model of the structure of the affected primary teeth is proposed. DESIGN: This case series study examined 27 affected teeth with va…
