A Pediatric Case of Cubitus Varus Deformity due to Olecranon Fracture.

We encountered a pediatric case of cubitus varus deformity with a sheared olecranon fracture in an 8-year-old boy who underwent corrective osteotomy without relevant medical history. The patient fell, resulting in a sheared olecranon fracture. He underwent a closed reduction and casting. As the displacement slightly increased within a week, we followed him without secondary reduction to expect remodeling. No remodeling occurred; corrective osteotomy was performed one-year post-injury for a marked cubitus varus deformity. At 2.5 years after corrective osteotomy, little difference existed in the

Bilateral Synchronous Olecranon Apophyseal Fracture in a Teenager: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign, expansible, non-neoplastic tumor of usually long bones and is identified by blood vessels and spaces that are most often differentiated by fibrous septae. It is challenging to treat these rare, giant ABCs as they have a damaging effect on the bones and compress the nearby structures, especially in load-bearing bones of the body. CASE REPORT: We report a case of a giant ABC in the distal tibia one-third with soft tissue component of a 30-year-old male. The patient presented to our outpatient department with complaints of pain and swelling o

Olecranon Fracture in an Older Adult Treated With Locking Plate Osteosynthesis.

Although olecranon fractures are not uncommon in the geriatric population, there has been a considerable difference of opinion between surgical and nonsurgical treatments. Surgical treatment is usually deferred in the elderly, even for displaced olecranon fractures, because of inherent risks associated with poor bone quality and soft tissues, which often necessitate further surgeries. However, nonoperative treatment frequently results in an inability to regain full extension strength of the elbow, which can be disabling in select older adults with higher functional demands. We present an activ

Clinical and radiological evaluation of surgical management in olecranon fracture-dislocations.

PURPOSE: The treatment of olecranon fracture-dislocations (OFDs) remains challenging. OFDs are often misdiagnosed as Monteggia lesions, and the real frequency is actually higher. However, studies on OFDs are limited. This study aimed to report on the surgical management of OFDs and to highlight the importance of three-dimensional computed tomography (3D CT) evaluation in the treatment of OFDs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study participants included 18 patients (11 men, 7 women, mean age 44 years (range 24-78) with OFDs. Each patient's medical records, radiographs, and 3D CT scans were reviewed

Malpositioned olecranon fracture tension-band wiring results in proximal radioulnar synostosis.

BACKGROUND: Tension-band wiring (TBW) is a well-established fixation technique for two-part, transverse fracture types of the olecranon. However, complication rates up to 80 % are reported. By reporting on the enormous impact on the patient if failed the aim of the present report was to emphasize the importance of correct K wire positioning in TBW. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 49-year-old woman who suffered from a radioulnar synostosis of the forearm due to malpositioned K wires after TBW treatment. The patient was treated by heterotopic bone resection supported by ossification

Spontaneous displacement of olecranon fracture through geode salvaged by elbow replacement.

We present a case of pathological fracture of olecranon through a giant geode. Fracture was initially undisplaced and was treated conservatively. It later progressed to a transolecranon dislocation as a result of a pseudarthrosis at the fracture site. The patient presented 4 years later when she developed symptoms of ulnar nerve palsy. She was treated by a total elbow arthroplasty with ulnar nerve transposition. The current report highlights this unusual case and reviews the relevant literature.

Unusual Combination of Lateral Condyle Mass Fracture and Olecranon Fracture in a Child: A Case Report.

Fractures of the lateral condyle and olecranon are two of the most common elbow injuries in the pediatric age group. However, their simultaneous occurrence is rare. Proper understanding and management of these injuries are essential to prevent long-term complications. This case report presents a patient who suffered both fractures, with surgical intervention for the condyle and non-surgical management for the olecranon. A two-year-old female child was brought to the emergency department following a fall from monkey bars, landing on her outstretched left arm. Clinical examination showed a marke

Olecranon Fracture through Persistent Olecranon Apophysis in a 21-Year-Old Male: A Case Report and Systematic Review of the Literature.

Traumatic fractures involving an ununited olecranon apophysis in adults have been rarely documented in the literature. We present the case of a 21-year-old male wrestler with an elbow injury after a fall. Imaging revealed an acute fracture of the olecranon with sclerotic rounded edges indicating an injury through a persistent olecranon apophysis. Open reduction and internal fixation was performed with plate fixation and bone grafting with radiographic and clinical healing at 6 weeks. Review of the literature revealed 5 case reports showing high rates of non-union with tension band constructs w

Articular impaction of olecranon fracture is associated with poor postoperative clinical outcome.

AIMS: Articular impaction in olecranon fractures has been under-recognized. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical implications of articular impaction, and to identify factors associated with poor postoperative outcomes following open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). METHODS: Patients who underwent ORIF for olecranon fractures were retrospectively reviewed. Articular impaction was assessed using preoperative CT scans, and articular impaction reduction quality was categorized based on residual depression. Functional outcomes were assessed using the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS)
