In 192 oocyte donation cycles performed between January 1993 and July 1996, we examined the width of 'the window for embryo transfer' using standard hormonal replacement methods. All transfers were performed within 48 h of insemination. We varied the day of embryo transfer with regard to the initiation of progesterone therapy and, thus, the duration of endometrial exposure to progesterone and analysed the resulting pregnancy rates. Patients were divided into five groups (I-V) and embryo transfers were performed 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 days following initiation of progesterone therapy. The number of pr

A potent gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist (Nal-Glu) was administered to downregulate the pituitaries of oocyte donors (n = 15) and block their midcycle luteinizing hormone surges. Donors received Nal-Glu at a dose of 50 microg/kg/day i.m., beginning when lead follicles reached a mean diameter of 14 mm. All donors had previously undergone controlled ovarian hyperstimulation cycles using GnRH agonist (leuprolide acetate) administered subcutaneously beginning during the midluteal phase. Ovarian stimulation was performed using human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG). Compared to previo

BACKGROUND: It has not been investigated how Greek women who have undergone oocyte donation experience pregnancy and early motherhood.
AIM: To explore the experience of women who have a child without a genetic link during pregnancy and after birth.
METHODS: Nine pregnant women aged 32 - 49 (M = 40.8 years) who conceived their child through oocyte donation participated in the study. Four semi-structured interviews were conducted with each woman, one in each trimester and one 5-7 months after birth. The interviews were transcribed verbatim, and a phenomenological interpretative analysis was un

BACKGROUND: In Germany, performing fertility procedures involving oocyte donation is illegal, as stated by the Embryo Protection Law. Nonetheless, in our clinical routine we attend to a steadily rising number of pregnant women, who have sought oocyte donation abroad. Due to the legal circumstances many women opt to keep the origin of their pregnancy a secret. However, studies have shown, that oocyte donation is an independent risk factor for the development of pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate maternal and neonatal outcomes of oocyt

BACKGROUND: This study examined the motivations and experiences of anonymous donors who decide to make themselves open to contact with their donor offspring.
METHODS: Online questionnaires were completed by 63 sperm donors and 11 oocyte donors recruited via the Donor Sibling Registry (http://www.donorsiblingregistry.com/), a US-based international registry that facilitates contact between donor-conceived offspring and their donors.
RESULTS: Donors' main reasons for donating were financial payment and wanting to help others. Sperm donors had donated between 1 and 950 times (median = 100) and

Implantation is the final and most important stage of embryogenesis and is of paramount importance in achieving a successful pregnancy. Progesterone and estrogen are steroid hormones responsible for the regulation of the implantation window and the current study hypothesised that their receptors may be implicated in women undergoing oocyte donation. A total of 15 women aged 25-32 years old (mean ± SD, 28.9±2.89) undergoing oocyte donation were recruited into the present study. Participants underwent ovarian stimulation with gonadotrophin-releasing hormone antagonist and recombinant follicle-st

A left borderline serous ovarian tumor stage I (FIGO) was discovered and treated in a 26-year-old black nulliparous woman, by conservative approach (laparotomy, salpingo- oophorectomy). In a six months interval she had a 7.5 x 7.1 x 5.7cm multilocular contralateral tumor with septa and vegetative areas and in a year interval a CT showed a 8.4 x 7.4 x 7.0 lesion that precluded a follicular aspiration. The authors discuss the multidisciplinary strategy and the approach with the couple: the best option considered would be the resection of the tumor remaining attached to a new study pelvic. If pos

A case of tubal pregnancy in a young and healthy woman participating in a programme of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) gestational surrogacy is reported. The gestational surrogate was the 30 year old fertile sister of a 25 year old patient affected by stage 1 ovarian cancer. After mandatory oncological consultation, the donor was recommended to prospectively undergo controlled ovarian hyperstimulation cycles for embryo banking before being treated by total hysterectomy. Available embryos were cryopreserved and after adequate endometrial preparation using artificial cycles of hormone replacement t

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether endometrial receptivity is compromised in patients with premature ovarian failure (POF) due to Turner's syndrome who undergo oocyte donation.
DESIGN: Retrospective analysis.
SETTING: In vitro fertilization-ET units, anonymous oocyte donation program.
PATIENTS: The study included 53 patients with POF who underwent oocyte donation. These included 7 patients with Turner's syndrome (45,X) who underwent 22 ET cycles, 15 women with Turner variants (mosaics, deletions, or isochromosomes) who underwent 36 ET cycles, and 31 other patients with POF and a normal karyotyp

Oocyte donation (OD) pregnancies show a higher fetal-maternal incompatibility and a higher risk of developing pre-eclampsia (PE) than autologous pregnancies. As maternal monocytes play a role in the tolerization of the allogeneic fetus, the aim of this study was to analyse monocyte phenotypes in healthy and PE OD pregnancies. We collected maternal peripheral blood at different gestational time points in healthy (n = 10) and PE (n = 5) OD pregnancies. Fetal-maternal human leukocyte antigen (HLA) mismatches were calculated. We used a 35-colour antibody panel for Aurora spectral flow cytometry to

Oocyte donations (OD) represent 4.5% of all in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. While OD pregnancies face increased risks of obstetrical complications, especially pregnancy-induced hypertension and pre-eclampsia (PE), little is known about the physiology and the physiopathology of placentation. We performed a prospective case-control study to analyze uterine artery Doppler pulsatility index (UtA-PI) and serum maternal 17β-estradiol (17β-E) at 11 + 0 to 13 + 6 weeks' gestation in singleton pregnancies with different modes of conception. Study groups were: 55 OD, 48 IVF with autologous oocytes

STUDY QUESTION: Is there a difference in the risk of serious maternal complications during pregnancy and the postpartum in twin pregnancies according to mode of conception: natural conception, non-IVF fertility treatment, IVF, ICSI or oocyte donation?
SUMMARY ANSWER: Women with twin pregnancies after medically assisted reproduction (MAR) had an overall risk of serious maternal complications 30% higher compared with women with natural twin pregnancies, and this association varied according to the MAR procedure; the risk was increased by 50% with IVF using autologous oocytes and by 270% with oo

BACKGROUND: Fetuses in pregnancies conceived after oocyte donation (OD) have a higher degree of antigeneic dissimilarity with the mother compared to semi-allogeneic fetuses after natural conception. We questioned whether this leads to higher level of HLA antibody formation in OD pregnancies.
METHOD: Uncomplicated pregnancies after OD were compared with pregnancies conceived either spontaneously or by IVF. We calculated the number of HLA- and epitope mismatches. Maternal sera were screened for HLA antibodies with ELISA; child HLA specific antibody production was determined using CDC and Lumine

After oocyte donation 18 pregnancies were established in 17 patients with the absence of ovaries. Eight patients were delivered of nine healthy infants including one set of twins, six pregnancies were progressing normally, and four pregnancies were aborted. Four pregnancies were established after transfer of frozen-thawed embryos. In the simulated luteal phases, replaced with estradiol valerate and progesterone, pregnancies could be established and maintained as indicated by the profile of serum human chorionic gonadotropin concentrations. Weekly determinations of serum 17 beta-estradiol level

BACKGROUND: Surplus oocytes in assisted reproduction treatment cycles could be saved and donated to other couples. ICSI is usually performed for oocytes that have been stored frozen, considering possible exocytosis of cortical granules (CG). The unavoidability of ICSI merits further study.
METHODS: We used a slow method to freeze excess oocytes from infertile couples. After thawing, oocytes were fertilized by either IVF or ICSI according to semen parameters. Some oocytes were examined for CG.
RESULTS: Twenty-eight infertile couples cryopreserved a proportion of their oocytes and 12 thawed th

INTRODUCTION: Oocyte donation (OD) pregnancy is a risk factor for pre-eclampsia (PE). Due to a higher extent of fetal-maternal human leukocyte antigens (HLA) mismatching in OD pregnancies compared to naturally conceived (NC) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancies, the immune response in OD placentas is probably divergent and affects clinical outcomes. We hypothesized that placental pathology varies among diverse pregnancy conditions and is related to fetal-maternal HLA incompatibility.
METHODS: Placental lesions were scored in four patient groups: OD-PE (n = 16), OD-healthy (n = 37), NC

BACKGROUND: The psychological consequences of infertility in couples undergoing oocyte donation differ culturally, racially, religiously, and legally from other infertile couples undergoing assisted reproductive treatments. Therefore, the inclusion of a mental health program in assisted reproductive services is essential for these couples. As such, the aim of this study is to develop a program for improving the mental health of these couples.
METHODS: This study is designed using an exploratory mixed method and the program based on Talbot and Verrinder model. Different steps of this research

In pregnancy, maternal physiology is subject to considerable adaptations, including alterations in cardiovascular and metabolic function as well as development of immunological tolerance towards the fetus. In an oocyte donation pregnancy, the fetus is fully allogeneic towards the mother, since it carries both oocyte donor antigens and paternal antigens. Therefore, oocyte donation pregnancies result in an immunologically challenging pregnancy, which is reflected by a higher-than-normal risk to develop pre-eclampsia. Based on the allogeneic conditions in oocyte donation pregnancies, we hypothesi

BACKGROUND: Oocyte donation has been associated to gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, placental abnormalities, preterm delivery and increased rate of caesarean delivery while simultaneously being characterized by high rates of primiparity, advanced maternal age and multiple gestation constituting the individual risk of mode of conception difficult to assess. This study aims to explore obstetrical outcomes among relatively young women with optimal health status conceiving singletons with donated versus autologous oocytes (via IVF and spontaneously).
METHODS: National retrospective c
