PURPOSE: We present our first results with the technique described by Bianchi and Squire in 1989 for the surgical treatment of undescended testis by scrotal incision as an alternative to the traditional inguinal approach.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospective study of patients operated with the diagnosis of cryptorchidism with scrotal orchidopexy from October 2008 through July 2009.

AIM: The aim was to determine whether routine contralateral orchiopexy is justified in a child with a vanished testis from intrauterine torsion.
METHODS: A retrospective study of thirty-one consecutive boys with a vanished testis who underwent contralateral orchiopexy with the sutureless technique over an eight-year (1995 - 2002 inclusive) period was carried out. The aim of the study was to examine the recommendations for prophylactic contralateral orchiopexy in patients presenting with unilateral testicular torsion in Denmark. A questionnaire was mailed to the 61 surgical departments treating acute urological patients. Prophylactic contralateral orchiopexy was performed in 60 of the 61 departments. PURPOSE: Multiple approaches exist for the management of the nonpalpable testis. With the use of diagnostic laparoscopy widely accepted in the setting of the nonpalpable testis we have found laparoscopic orchiopexy to be an efficient and logical extension. To evaluate its use we report our experience with laparoscopic orchiopexy to treat 44 nonpalpable testes in 36 patients.

Orchiopexy was performed on 135 testes in 121 patients aged up to 15 (median 6) years who had no previous inguinal surgery or hormonal treatment. Hypoplasia at the time of orchiopexy (34/135) was significantly less common when the testis was in or peripheral to the superficial inguinal ring than when it was intracanalicular. We herein examine the role of orchiopexy in the child with unilateral cryptorchidism and specifically discuss whether this operation produces a testis capable of good sperm production. Contralateral vasectomy was performed in subjects who previously had undergone unilateral orchiopexy. Semen analysis from the previously operated testes showed marked diminution in spermatogenesis.

A review of the literature revealed 220 cases of germinal cell tumor of the testis that has occurred after orchiopexy. Of these cases 97 were accurately documented in regard to scrotal placement of the undescended testis and the subsequent tumor. OBJECTIVE: To prospectively evaluate the Bianchi single scrotal incision technique for orchiopexy in boys with palpable undescended testis.
METHODS: A total of 35 orchiopexies were performed in 28 patients. The patent processus vaginalis was dissected and cut high without ligation, while in Bianchi's original procedure, the patent processus vaginalis is dissected up to the external inguinal canal, ligated high and divided. In order to determine the effects of the Fowler-Stephens orchiopexy (FSO) on fertility, young rats underwent simulated FSO, FSO and concurrent contralateral orchiectomy (FSO/OR), unilateral orchiectomy (OR), or sham operation (controls). Twelve weeks after the operation, each male rat was mated to two proven-fertile female rats for 17 days (three ovulatory cycles). Two weeks later, both male and female rats were killed.
