INTRODUCTION: Standard therapy for muscle invasive bladder cancer includes neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by radical cystectomy with urinary diversion. Three decades of interest in primary radiation and chemotherapy for bladder preservation have yielded mature that deserve closer examination.

Aspergillus infections frequently affect immunocompromised patients and are associated with high mortality. We report the case of a renal aspergilloma in a bone marrow transplant recipient. Treatment is challenging and requires a combination of systemic antifungal therapy and surgery. In the present case, a minimally invasive retroperitoneoscopic resection of the aspergilloma was performed.

PURPOSE: To determine the rates of organ preservation and function in patients with advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinomas treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
METHODS AND MATERIALS: Between April 1999 and September 2005, 82 patients with advanced laryngeal (67%) and hypopharyngeal carcinomas (33%) underwent conventional radiotherapy and concurrent platinum-based chemotherapy with curative intent. Sixty-two patients were male (75.6%). The median age was 59 years. Eighteen patients (22%) were in Stage III and 64 (78%) were in Stage IV. The median radiation dose was 70 Gy.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the subglottis is infrequently reported in the literature. This tumor subtype is more commonly associated with the major and minor salivary glands. Mucoepidertoid carcinoma of the larynx can be difficult to diagnose, and there is no consensus as to appropriate management. We report a case of a low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma that was confined to the subglottis and treated with organ-preservation surgery. A conservative surgical approach was taken because of the tumor's low-grade histology and its location and in order to preserve the patient's laryngeal function.

PURPOSE: To report long-term results using radiotherapy with or without a planned neck dissection for T1-T2 carcinoma of the pyriform sinus.
