Parental Preferences for Continuous Glucose Monitoring Devices in Children with Type 1 Diabetes: A Pilot Discrete Choice Experiment with Sensitivity Analysis of Decision Consistency.

BACKGROUND: Continuous glucose monitoring is increasingly used in pediatric type 1 diabetes management, but families may value device characteristics differently and may trade off convenience, safety-related functions, remote data access, sensor replacement burden, and cost. PURPOSE: This pilot discrete choice experiment explored parental preferences for continuous glucose monitoring device attributes among Chinese families of children with type 1 diabetes and examined the robustness of preference estimates under alternative respondent-inclusion and modeling strategies. PATIENTS AND METHODS:

Dominant Salmonella Serovars in Australian Broiler Breeder Flocks and Hatcheries: a Longitudinal Study.

A longitudinal study was conducted to determine the dominance and prevalence of Salmonella enterica subsp in Australian broiler breeder flocks and hatcheries. Twenty-two flocks (n = 3339 samples) were sampled over 6 time points beginning at placement until week 40. Hatcheries (n = 274 samples) were sampled following removal of chicks hatched from eggs originating from the 22 donor parent flocks. The percent of positive flocks (36%) and frequency of positive samples (15.6%) were highest during rearing at week 7. The frequency of positive samples decreased over the 40 weeks; however, the number

Qualitative Analysis of the Lived Experience of Reproductive and Pediatric Health Care in the Military Health Care System.

INTRODUCTION: Persistent inequities exist in obstetric and neonatal outcomes in military families despite universal health care coverage. Though the exact underlying cause has not been identified, social determinants of health may uniquely impact military families. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively investigate the potential impact of social determinants of health and the lived experiences of military individuals seeking maternity care in the Military Health System. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was an Institutional Review Board-approved protocol. Nine providers conducted 31 semi-st

Global aspects of tuberculosis in children.

Tuberculosis (TB) in children reflects the prevalence of the disease in adults as well as current transmission rates. Africa and South-east Asia have the largest number of tuberculosis cases and the situation there has been worsened by the HIV epidemic. Children born to HIV-infected parents, whether infected or not, are at high risk of developing tuberculosis because of the increased risk of exposure to the disease. Tuberculosis is more common among the disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in each society and the impact of overcrowding, under-nutrition and poverty is particularly severe on chil

Perinatal outcomes in neonates referred to social services in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit from a resource-limited setting: a five-year study.

BACKGROUND: Beyond medical complexity, social determinants of health and social vulnerability have emerged as factors shaping perinatal and neonatal outcomes among socially vulnerable families in neonatal intensive care units. However, data integrating maternal, neonatal, and social risk factors among infants requiring social-service referral during neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) hospitalization remain limited, especially in resource-limited settings. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study was conducted including all neonates who received a formal social-service consultation between

Intra-familial transmission of Hepatitis B virus in a peri-urban community from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

BACKGROUND: Despite global elimination targets set for 2030, Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a major public health challenge in low-income countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Limited evidence on the regional transmission pathways precludes progress towards HBV elimination. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, molecular characteristics, and transmission dynamics of HBV in the Lukelenge health district, a peri-urban area in central DRC. METHODS: We employed a two-tiered recruitment strategy: community member volunteers were enrolled during the first phas

Forecasting childhood adversities from conditions of birth.

BACKGROUND: Childbirth presents an optimal time for identifying high-risk families to commence intervention that could avert various childhood health and social adversities. OBJECTIVE: We sought to establish the minimum set of exposures required to accurately predict a range of adverse childhood outcomes up to the age of 13 years, from a set of 14 individual and familial risk exposures evident at the time of birth. METHODS: Participants were 72,059 Australian children and their parents drawn from a multi-register population cohort study (data spanning 1994-2018). Risk exposures included male
