Autogenous bone chip interspersed in PRF and PRP as an augmentative bio material in autogenous tooth transplant - A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Autotransplantation technique involves extraction of tooth from the recipient site and donor tooth without damage, placing and stabilizing donor tooth within same individual. The use of autogenous bone combined with platelet rich fibrin (PRF) and platelet rich plasma (PRP) seems to be favorable to achieve stable alveolar bone. Thus we provide an innovative adjuvant method for enhancing bone formation using PRF and inter-radicular bone with PRP as autogenous graft. [Role of salivary kallikrein in the pathogenesis of periodontosis].

In patients with parodontosis the distinct increase in salivary kallikrein secretion was found. In Wistar rats the intensity of age atrophy of alveoli dentalis correlated with BAEE-esterase activity of mixed saliva. Desalivation considerably decreased the rate of age atrophy of parodontosis in rats. Salivary kallikrein, penetrating in active form into parodontal tissues, caused the pronounced vasodilation in dogs and golden hamsters. By means of kallikrein preparations an intensive inflammatory-dystrophical process was reproduced in parodontal tissues of Wistar rats. The local treatment of pat

Alzheimer's disease - a neurospirochetosis. Analysis of the evidence following Koch's and Hill's criteria.

It is established that chronic spirochetal infection can cause slowly progressive dementia, brain atrophy and amyloid deposition in late neurosyphilis. Recently it has been suggested that various types of spirochetes, in an analogous way to Treponema pallidum, could cause dementia and may be involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here, we review all data available in the literature on the detection of spirochetes in AD and critically analyze the association and causal relationship between spirochetes and AD following established criteria of Koch and Hill. The results show a

Retiring some myths about aging and oral health.

Research on the oral health status of elderly populations has been limited in frequency and scope. There is a lack of good descriptive and longitudinal data on salivary gland function, oral mucosal status, and oral sensory performance in health and disease across the adult life span. Thus, confusion for practitioners and patients alike arises from unsubstantiated stereotypes about aging and oral health. There are some commonalities in the origins of the myths discussed in this article. First, many aging generalizations were based on studies that did not account for the health and medication st

[Decrease in interdental bone atrophy, radiological survey; statistics from the years 1963-1976 from a Basel public dental clinic].

The material of this study consisted of 300 patients 16 to 39 years of age of the Public Dental Clinic of the City of Basle without destructive periodontal disease. The distance from the cementoenamel junction to the alveolar septum (DJS) was measured on bitewing radiographs at 8 surfaces of the lateral segment. On the radiographs made during the period 1963-1967, the average DJS ranged between 0.93 and 1.49 mm in the 5 age groups. Since 1964-1967, patients have routinely been given theoretical and repeated practical training in prevention of caries and periodontal disease. On the radiographs

Age relationships of postmortem observations in Portuguese Water Dogs.

A dog model has been used to evaluate histological changes arising from senescence. Autopsies of 145 Portuguese Water Dogs have been used to evaluate the individual and group "state of health" at time of death. For each dog, weights or dimensions of organs or tissues were obtained, together with histological evaluation of tissues. Twenty-three morphological metrics correlated significantly to age at death. Many of these involved muscles; others were associated with derivatives of embryonic foregut. The latter included lengths of the small intestine and trachea as well as weights of the stomach

Relationship between age-related changes in mandibular third molar roots and the possibility of mental nerve paresthesia after tooth extraction.

Mental nerve paresthesia is a serious postoperative complication of mandibular third molar extraction. It appears that no study has examined the relationship between the surface morphology of the mandibular third molar roots and the possibility of mental nerve paresthesia following tooth extraction. Therefore, the root morphology of the mandibular third molars was examined according to age using dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and the possibility of mental nerve paresthesia following tooth extraction was evaluated. The study included 1216 patients who had undergone mandibular thir

Emerging roles of pathogens in Alzheimer disease.

Chronic spirochetal infection can cause slowly progressive dementia, cortical atrophy and amyloid deposition in the atrophic form of general paresis. There is a significant association between Alzheimer disease (AD) and various types of spirochete (including the periodontal pathogen Treponemas and Borrelia burgdorferi), and other pathogens such as Chlamydophyla pneumoniae and herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1). Exposure of mammalian neuronal and glial cells and organotypic cultures to spirochetes reproduces the biological and pathological hallmarks of AD. Senile-plaque-like beta amyloid (Aβ)

Atrophy of the residual alveolar ridge following tooth loss in an historical population.

OBJECTIVES: To study the natural aetiopathology of jaw atrophy after tooth loss, unaltered by prosthetic procedures, an historical population without modern dental treatment was examined. METHODS: Based on the hypothesis that there are predictable changes in shape during jaw-atrophy, frequency and degree of atrophy as well as clinical aspects of bone quality and resorption were determined in the skeletal remains of 263 individuals. The potential association between age and frequency/severity of atrophy was analysed. RESULTS: Atrophy in at least one jaw segment was present in 45.2% of the ana

The Comprehensive AOCMF Classification System: Midface Fractures - Level 3 Tutorial.

This tutorial outlines the details of the AOCMF image-based classification system for fractures of the midface at the precision level 3. The topography of the different midface regions (central midface-upper central midface, intermediate central midface, lower central midface-incorporating the naso-orbito-ethmoid region; lateral midface-zygoma and zygomatic arch, palate) is subdivided in much greater detail than in level 2 going beyond the Le Fort fracture types and its analogs. The level 3 midface classification system is presented along with guidelines to precisely delineate the fracture pat

Three-Dimensional Mechanical Microenvironment Rescued the Decline of Osteogenic Differentiation of Old Human Jaw Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Resorption and atrophy of the alveolar bone, as two consequences of osteoporosis that remarkably complicate the orthodontic and prosthodontic treatments, contribute to the differentiated biological features and force-induced response of jaw bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (JBMSCs) in elderly patients. We isolated and cultured JBMSCs from adolescent and adult patients and then simulated the loading of orthodontic tension stress by constructing an in vitro three-dimensional (3D) stress loading model. The decline in osteogenic differentiation of aged JBMSCs was reversed by tensile stre

Porphyromonas gingivalis infection in the oral cavity is associated with elevated galactose-deficient IgA1 and increased nephritis severity in IgA nephropathy.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between the major periodontal bacteria, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy (IgAN)-particularly with respect to galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1)-has not been fully elucidated. METHODS: Saliva samples from 30 IgAN patients and 44 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) were subjected to analysis of P. gingivalis status via polymerase chain reaction using a set of P. gingivalis-specific primers. The associations between P. gingivalis presence and clinical parameters, including plasma Gd-IgA1, were analyzed in each group. RESULTS:

Human Stem Cells and Tissue Responses to Xenogeneic Bone Block: An In Vitro and Histologic Study.

PURPOSE: Premature loss of a tooth element causes extensive local bone atrophy. Block biomaterials are used in patients with an atrophic maxilla to reshape the premaxilla bone. This study aimed to evaluate the responses to xenogeneic bone blocks at cellular and tissue levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Viability of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs) submitted to culture medium-containing substances leached from a xenogeneic block biomaterial (Orthogen) was assessed by the MTT assay. Cells grown in a fresh medium were used as the control. Cell viability was measured at 24, 48, and 72

[The treatment and rehabilitation of patients with secondary adentia and atrophy of alveolar process of maxilla].

The novel method of surgical treatment and rehabilitation of patients with secondary adentia and atrophy of alveolar process of maxilla was suggested. The method allows to preserve satisfactory microcirculation of the implantation area and to achieve hermetizm by wound closure. The use of the endoscope for visualizing the operation field minimizes the possibility of the sinus membrane intraoperative perforation and decreases the overall surgical traumatizm.

Widespread Multimorbidity in a Cohort of Aging, Radiation-exposed Rhesus Macaques.

Delayed effects of acute radiation exposure (DEARE) and radiation late effects are a suite of conditions that become apparent months to years after initial exposure to radiation in both humans and non-human primates. Many of these disorders, including cardiac complications, insulin resistance, bone loss, hypertension, and others, are also more common among aging cohorts independent of radiation exposure. This study characterized disease incidence, age of onset, and multimorbidity for 20 common, chronic diseases in 226 irradiated and 51 control rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) from the Wake For
