Moral sensitivity and professional quality of life in EMS personnel: a cross-sectional multicenter study.

INTRODUCTION: Moral sensitivity plays a crucial role in clinical decision-making and patient interactions among Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. Although moral sensitivity and professional quality of life have been studied in hospital-based healthcare providers, little evidence exists regarding EMS personnel, who face unique challenges such as heavy workloads, workplace violence, and frequent ethical dilemmas in unpredictable environments. These gaps highlight the necessity of investigating the relationship between moral sensitivity and professional quality of life in this context.

Lessons learned conducting a multi-center trial with a military population: The Tinnitus Retraining Therapy Trial.

The trial was conducted at six US military hospitals to take advantage of the greater prevalence of tinnitus in the military population. Methods During the trial, various challenges arose that were uniquely related to the military setting. To conv

Heat Adaptation in Military Personnel: Mitigating Risk, Maximizing Performance.

The study of heat adaptation in military personnel offers generalizable insights into a variety of sporting, recreational and occupational populations. Conversely, certain characteristics of military employment have few parallels in civilian life, such as the imperative to achieve mission objectives during deployed operations, the opportunity to undergo training and selection for elite units or the requirement to fulfill essential duties under prolonged thermal stress. In such settings, achieving peak individual performance can be critical to organizational success. Short-notice deployment to

Instruments for assessing geriatric nursing competence among nursing personnel: protocol for a COSMIN-based systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Accelerated population ageing has resulted in increasingly diverse and complex care needs among older people, posing a major challenge to healthcare systems worldwide. Nursing personnel represent a core workforce in the delivery of healthcare and nursing services for older people, and their geriatric nursing competence (GNC) is closely associated with the quality of care provided, care outcomes and older people's quality of life. Therefore, accurate assessment of GNC is essential for nursing education, workforce development and quality improvement. Although several instruments ha

GP recruitment and retention: a qualitative analysis of doctors' comments about training for and working in general practice.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: General practice in the UK is experiencing difficulty with medical staff recruitment and retention, with reduced numbers choosing careers in general practice or entering principalships, and increases in less-than-full-time working, career breaks, early retirement and locum employment. Information is scarce about the reasons for these changes and factors that could increase recruitment and retention. The UK Medical Careers Research Group (UKMCRG) regularly surveys cohorts of UK medical graduates to determine their career choices and progression. We also invite written comme

Issues in the optimal selection of a cranial nerve monitoring system.

Intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) is a safe technique that is of clear clinical value in the preservation of cranial nerves in skull base surgery and is rapidly becoming the standard of care. Available nerve monitoring systems vary widely in capabilities and costs. A well-informed surgeon may best decide on monitoring needs based on surgical case selection, experience, operating room space, availability of monitoring personnel, and cost. Key system characteristics that should be reviewed in the decision-making process include the monitoring technique (electromyography, pressure transducer

Guidelines for the psychological evaluation of air crew personnel.

Air crew personnel (i.e., pilots, flight attendants, and air traffic controllers) are subjected to intense psychological and physical stress. Recent terrorist attacks in the U.S., the increased frequency of unruly passenger incidents, and the instability of the aviation industry have exacerbated air crew stress. In addition, common neuropsychiatric conditions (e.g., alcoholism, head trauma, HIV, depression) can impair operational fitness. This article discusses the aviation medical certification process and proposes guidelines for psychological evaluation, including: qualifications of provider

Skill sets for the home telehealth practitioner: a recipe for success.

Successful implementation of home telehealth programs require unique skills and personality traits of professionals driving the program. Understanding these traits and skills, and how they predict performance will help staff recognize superior applicants when recruiting individuals for such positions. An extensive literature review ties research published on human factors, what they are, the role they play in performance, and how this may translate into a successful telehealth program. We compared case examples of some successful home telehealth programs. Furthermore, a summary of problems app

It is prevalent in various populations, but military personnel are particularly vulnerable due to their unique environmental and behavioral factors. These include living in close quarters, exposure to humid conditions, and wearing tight, non-breathable footwear for prolonged periods. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to estimate the global prevalence of tinea pedis among military personnel and explore factors contributing to its high occurrence in this popula
