BACKGROUND: The role of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in improving short-term outcomes-symptoms, burden, and disability-for individuals with severe mental disorders (SMDs), common mental disorders (CMDs), and alcohol use disorders (AUDs) remains inadequately studied.
METHODS: This randomized controlled trial compared enhanced ASHA training (one-day in-person plus seven online modules over 18 months; Study Group (SG), n = 35) to training-as-usual (one-day in-person; Control Group (CG), n = 36). Both groups supported persons with SMDs (SG = 24; CG = 37), CMDs (SG = 15; CG = 20), an

OBJECTIVE: Psychiatric morbidity, impulsive behaviour and use of dysfunctional and maladaptive defences are core features of personality disorder (PD). This study aims to evaluate the significance of the strength of the association between these three core dimensions and PD.
METHOD: Using a cross-sectional design, a sample of co-morbid Axis-I & -II disorders, and a sample of Axis-I disorders with no co-morbid PD were recruited at three general psychiatric mental health resource centres and then compared.PD as dependent variable was analysed both as a categorical and as a dimensional entity us

Childhood traumatic experiences have been implicated in the development of personality disorders (PDs), but research within the recent ICD-11 PD framework is still lacking. We aimed to explore the effects of various types of early trauma on the ICD-11 PD severity and maladaptive personality domains. In this cross-sectional study, 398 adult psychiatric patients (57% females; 32% PD) filled out the following self-report instruments: the ICD-11 Personality Disorder Severity Scale, the Personality Assessment Questionnaire for ICD-11, and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire - Short Form. PD patients

We aimed to investigate the relationships of ICD-11 personality disorder (PD) severity and five maladaptive personality domains with narcissistic grandiosity and narcissistic vulnerability among 398 Croatian adult psychiatric patients. They completed the following self-report questionnaires: the ICD-11 Personality Disorder Severity Scale, the Personality Assessment Questionnaire for ICD-11, and the Pathological Narcissism Inventory. Narcissistic grandiosity showed meaningful associations with the Disinhibition and Anankastia domains. Conversely, narcissistic vulnerability was significantly mor

INTRODUCTION: People with borderline personality disorder have difficulties with work. The Individual Placement and Support model has shown its worldwide effectiveness in terms of vocational rehabilitation for individuals with psychiatric disorders. However, only a few recent studies have explored its results for people with personality disorders, and the findings were mitigated. Additionally, Individual Placement and Support job coaches reported difficulties in supporting this population. An evidence-based psychotherapeutic method, also applicable in a case management context, called Good Psy

Good Psychiatric Management (GPM) is a generalist clinical management approach for borderline personality disorder that incorporates common ingredients of good standard care for any psychiatric diagnosis with what works from prevailing specialist psychotherapies. Similar to all validated therapies for BPD, it relies on a specified formulation of the disorder' symptoms as arising from interpersonal hypersensitivity, to dynamically describe typical patterns of daily self- and interpersonal issues that drive the instability that defines the general personality dysfunction characteristic of the di

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to investigate the perinatal morbidity associated with multiple repeat cesarean deliveries (CD) and, thus, to achieve a body of evidence for the current practice of discouraging pregnancy after undergoing three CDs.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study prospectively reviewed a total of 500 women who consecutively underwent CD between January 1, 2009 and April 1, 2009. The patients were allocated into four groups based on the number of CDs they had undergone (Group 1: first CD, Group 2: second CD, Group 3: third CD, Group 4: fourth CD). Data related with their de

The practice of involuntary psychiatric commitment is central to the acute treatment of persons with severe mental illness and others in psychiatric crisis. Deciding whether a patient should be admitted involuntarily requires weighing respect for autonomy against beneficence, considering the clinical needs of the patient, and navigating ambiguous legal standards. The relative dearth of information about the impact of involuntary commitment on objective patient outcomes complicates matters ethically, legally, and clinically. To address this gap in the literature, we sought to determine the asso

BACKGROUND: Deliberate self-harm (DSH) may occur in response to negative life events and life problems. High suicidal intent may be a risk factor for subsequent suicide but little is known about how life problems and suicidal intent are related. The aims of this study were to examine life problems according to age, gender, suicidal intent and other patient characteristics in DSH patients.
METHODS: Data from the Oxford Monitoring System for Attempted Suicide were used to investigate life problems contributing to DSH and their relationship to patient variables including Suicide Intent Scale (SI

BACKGROUND: The psychiatrization of borderline personality disorder (BPD) has expanded beyond clinical contexts into identity formation, interpersonal regulation, and digital self-presentation. For individuals with BPD-whose psychopathology centrally involves identity diffusion-the diagnostic label may function not only as an explanatory framework but also as a stabilizing, defensive, or performative identity resource, particularly within online environments.
OBJECTIVES: This article aims to examine how individuals with BPD integrate psychiatric diagnosis into their self-concept, to identify

People with personality disorders (PDs) are often admitted to psychiatric emergency services due to the frequent repetition of acute crises. This study drew on the ICD diagnostic records of 2,634 individuals with PDs who were admitted to a specialized inpatient psychiatric crisis unit over a 6-year period. Multiple logistic regressions and survival regressions were performed to examine whether PD categories, gender, and other individual, interpersonal, and precipitating factors were associated with readmission and time-to-readmission. The results showed a 16.1% readmission rate. Of these, 99.5

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) are evidenced-based treatments for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) who fail to respond to standard first-line therapies. However, although various TMS protocols have been proven to be clinically effective, the response rate varies across clinical applications due to the heterogeneity of real-world psychiatric comorbidities, such as generalized anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, or substance use disorder, which are often observed in patients with MDD. Both personality disorders (PD) and cannabis use are highly comorbid with various psychiatric disorders. While previous research indicates specific interactions between cannabis use and schizotypal PD associated with schizophrenia, research into cannabis use among individuals with other PDs and the development of several additional psychiatric disorders is scarce. We explored the prevalence and incidence of psychiatric disorders among individuals with PDs who use cannabis, and whether individuals with PDs who use cannabis are at increased risk for developing psychiatric disorders compared to c

In this study, we compare the incremental predictive capacities of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR) Section II personality disorders (SII-PDs) with Section III trait domains of the Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD) in a psychiatric outpatient sample (N = 185). To this end, a series of hierarchical regression analyses was conducted in which the 10 SII-PDs and the five AMPD trait domains served as the predictor variables and five areas of clinical dysfunction as the criterion variables. Two models for each criterio

BACKGROUND: Telemedicine has played a vital role in providing psychiatric treatment to patients during the rapid transition of services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the use of telemedicine is expected to expand within the psychiatric field. The efficacy of telemedicine is well described in scientific literature. However, there is a need for a comprehensive quantitative review that analyzes and considers the different clinical outcomes and psychiatric diagnoses.
OBJECTIVE: This paper aimed to assess whether individual psychiatric outpatient treatment for posttraumatic stress diso

OBJECTIVE: Sleep problems are a clinical and/or diagnostic feature for a broad array of mood, substance use, and anxiety disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Previous research by Leskin et al (Leskin GA, Woodward SH, Young HE, Sheikh J. Effects of comorbid diagnoses on sleep disturbance in PTSD. J Psychiat Res 2002;36:449-452) using the baseline National Comorbidity Survey (NCS) data found that persons with PTSD and panic disorder had a greater proportion of sleep problems than persons with other comorbid disorders. The current study extends Leskin et al's findings using
