Herbal Gel Formulation Developed for Anti-Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-1 Activity Also Inhibits In Vitro HSV-2 Infection.

Herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2) infection is the most common cause of genital ulcers. The impact of ulcers also demonstrates a strong link to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Complications, drug resistance, and side-effects of anti-viral drugs make the treatment of HSV-2 infection challenging. Herbal medicines have shown potential against HSV-2 and HIV infections. In this context, polyherbal gel formulation comprising 50% ethanolic extracts from Acacia catechu, Lagerstroemia speciosa, Terminalia chebula and Phyllanthus emblica has been developed. The gel formulation significant

Role of Oncoviruses in Cancer Progression and Emerging Phytochemical-Based Therapies from Medicinal Plants.

Oncoviruses continues to be an unattended cause of the global cancer load as they cause about 12-15 % of human malignancies in the world. The oncogenic infections that become persistent, such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Hepatitis B and C viruses (HBV, HCV), Human T cell Leukemia Virus-1 (HTLV-1), and Kaposi Sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus (KSHV), are associated with malignant transformation by continuous destabilization of host cell cycle regulation, immune surveillance, and metabolic homeostasis. These viruses abuse critical oncogenic signaling networks like PI3K/A

Anti-Inflammatory and Antimicrobial Effects of Herbal Formulation Called Apo-Taat Using Extended-Spectrum ß-Lactamase-Producing Escherichia coli Isolates.

Pathogens contaminate drinking water in tropical countries causing diarrheal diseases. The conventional treatment for diarrhea is antibiotics. However, overuse and misuse of antibiotics has enabled pathogens to adapt, causing global antibiotic resistance and proliferation of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-E. coli), which causes diarrhea and high levels of inflammatory cytokines. Apo-taat, consisting of equal proportions of Phyllanthus emblica and Caesalpinia sappan, has been used to treat diarrhea and bloody diarrhea. Its antibacterial activity against E. coli A

Gastroprotective herbs for headache management in Persian medicine: A comprehensive review.

The gut-brain axis is a bidirectional communication system that exists between the brain and gut. Several studies claimed that some types of headaches are associated with various gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. In Persian medicine (PM), physicians believed that gastric disturbances could stimulate headache and introduced some herbs for boosting gastric function as a therapeutic remedy for headache. Here we review the current evidence for the gastroprotective and antiheadache effects of herbs used in PM. Herbs used for their gastrotonic effects in PM were identified from selected Persian medic

Proteomic characterization of acidic aqueous extracts from Vicia faba L. pod valves identifies chitinase as a major co-extracted protein macromolecule.

Naturally acidic aqueous extracts from Vicia faba L. pod valves are being explored as sustainable, L-DOPA-oriented plant preparations. Pod valves represent an underutilized processing by-product reported to contain L-DOPA, a compound widely used in Parkinson's disease therapy, while acidic aqueous media may help preserve its physicochemical stability. However, the protein macromolecules co-extracted from V. faba pod valves under these conditions remain poorly characterized. This information is relevant because persistent plant proteins may influence extract composition, stability, susceptibili
