Severe atrophy of the edentulous maxilla and progressive pneumatisation of the maxillary sinus can compromise the insertion of dental implants. In this context, ideal implant positioning is limited by inadequate height, width, and quality of the bone. Le Fort I osteotomy and interpositional bone graft is an excellent treatment concept for the dental rehabilitation of patients with atrophied maxilla and reversed intermaxillary relationship. In this report, we indicate the transcendent aspect of elevation and preservation of maxillary sinus and nasal mucosa, modifying the sandwich technique by t

Piezosurgery is a surgical technique that uses ultrasonic vibrations to precisely cut through bone tissue. It is commonly used in dental and maxillofacial procedures such as bone extraction, bone contouring and implant placement, providing benefits such as reduced soft tissue injury, decreased bleeding and improved patient comfort. This study has twenty six subjects and is a split mouth study in which bilateral third molar impactions are treated using piezosurgery and a traditional rotary approach. Piezosurgery has been shown to be a safe and effective osteotomy procedure that preserves soft t

INTRODUCTION: Aesthetic rhinoplasty remains a challenging procedure with high expectations and narrow tolerance for errors. Considerable training is required to achieve controlled and reliable results. Use of the Piezotome is gaining popularity for performing the nasal osteotomies, a key step in rhinoplasty, where it is reported to improve precision and predictability and to keep tissue damage to a minimum. We compare the outcomes of conventional osteotomy techniques to piezosurgery in human cadavers as undertaken by surgical trainees.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seven human cadavers were used and

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate mandibular donor site healing after cortical bone graft harvesting in cleft patients, comparing outcomes of osteotomies performed with rotary burs and piezosurgery.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty-three patients (64 bone grafting procedures) were included. Autogenous grafts were harvested from the mandibular body using either a rotary bur (n=43) or a piezoelectric device (n=21). Healing was assessed by CT 5-24 months postoperatively using a 4-grade scale. Statistical analysis employed the Shapiro-Wilk test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman correlation (p<0.05).

Posterior methods for cervical myelopathy include laminoplasty and laminectomy with/without fusion. A more recent innovation in these treatments is the use of an ultrasonic bone shaver for osteotomy. In this study, we examined the perioperative results after laminectomy/laminoplasty between conventional methods (rongeur/high-speed drill) vs. piezosurgery-based instruments. PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines were followed and the search was performed on four databases (PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, and Google Scholar). Seven comparative studies were

This case report described posttraumatic enophthalmos treated with 3-dimensional (3D)-guided piezosurgery to highlight the advantages of this less-invasive technique coupled with morphometric analysis. A 29-year-old patient presented with posttraumatic enophthalmos following a previous surgery involving reduction and osteosynthesis of a right zygomatico-orbito-malar complex fracture, caused by motorcycle trauma. Virtual surgical planning and 3D printing were used for right orbital reconstruction. Osteotomy of the right orbit was performed using piezosurgery along the inferior orbital rim and t

CONCLUSION: This test of the Piezosurgery medical device for osteoplasty of the external auditory duct posterior wall and stapedotomy highlighted the advantages of this device. The device's accuracy and selectivity render it superior to conventionally rotating instruments in otologic surgery. The precise nature of the instrument allows exact, clean, and smooth cut geometries during surgery, without any visible injury to the adjacent soft tissue.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to test the Piezosurgery device as a new and alternative method to conventional bone tissue management in otologi

The aim of this paper is to describe a technique for sinus floor augmentation with a 1-step crestal approach where the residual bone is ≤ 7.5mm. 36 implants were installed in 25 patients in the atrophic posterior maxilla immediately after sinus floor elevation. Sinus floor elevation was performed with a crestal approach using either osteotomes and burs or piezosurgery. Standardized intraoral radiographs were taken prior to surgery and 1 year after surgery. The mean residual bone height was 5.61 mm (range 3-7.5mm). The mean gain of sinus elevation was 6.78 mm (range 3.5-10mm) at 1 year after su

The management of frontal bone injury is an important issue, and inappropriate management of such injuries may give rise to serious complications. Piezosurgery is a technique used to perform safe and effective osteotomies using piezoelectric ultrasonic vibrations. This instrument allows a safe method for osteotomy of the cranial vault in close proximity to extremely injury-sensitive tissue such as the brain. After a wide review of the literature, the authors present this technical report, introduce the use of piezosurgery to perform a safe "slim-osteotomies" for treatment of posttraumatic fron

Although its pathogenesis remains obscure, Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS) has been associated with the linear scleroderma en coup de sabre. PRS is characterized by unilateral facial atrophy of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles, and bones with at least 1 dermatome supplied by the trigeminal nerve. Facial asymmetry represents the most common sequela and can involve the soft tissues, craniomaxillofacial skeleton, dentoalveolar area, and temporomandibular joint. Although orthognathic procedures have been reported for skeletal reconstruction, treatment of facial asymmetry has been directed to au

Mandibular osteotomy carries with it a risk of damaging blood vessels and nerves when using traditional surgical techniques. Piezosurgery®, is a new technique that uses ultrasonic vibration to enable bone-selective sectioning without damage to the surrounding soft tissues. However, paralysis may not be completely eliminated using Piezosurgery® for osteotomy. We investigated how piezoelectric surgery in bilateral sagittal splitting ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) affected the surrounding soft tissue. Forty-four patients with skeletal mandibular prognathism underwent mandibular setback with BSSRO. Patie
