Antimicrobial activity of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehn. plant extracts and essential oils: A review.

Eucalyptus has become one of the world's most widely planted genera and E. camaldulensis (The River Red Gum) is a plantation species in many parts of the world. The plant traditional medical application indicates great antimicrobial properties, so E. camaldulensis essential oils and plant extracts have been widely examined. Essential oil of E. camaldulensis is active against many Gram positive (0.07-1.1%) and Gram negative bacteria (0.01-3.2%). The antibacterial effect is confirmed for bark and leaf extracts (conc. from 0.08 μg/mL to 200 mg/mL), with significant variations depending on extract

Electron Microscopic Alterations in Pediculus humanus capitis Exposed to Some Pediculicidal Plant Extracts.

Head lice, Pediculus humanus capitis, infestation is an important public health problem in Egypt. Inadequate application of topical pediculicides and the increasing resistance to the commonly used pediculicides made the urgent need for the development of new agents able to induce irreversible changes in the exposed lice leading to their mortality. The aim of the present work is to evaluate pediculicidal efficacy of some natural products such as olive oil, tea tree oil, lemon juice, and ivermectin separately in comparison with tetramethrin-piperonyl butoxide (licid), as a standard pediculicide

[Influence of plant extracts on the activity of cholera toxin of Vibrio cholerae].

AIM: Study the activity of plant extracts against cholera toxin (CT) of Vibrio cholerae O1. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Antitoxic activity of plant extracts was determined by using enzyme immunoassay and CHO-K1 cell culture. RESULTS: 8 water extracts of plants were studied. Extracts of nut, tutsan, milfoil, basil do not have effect on CT activity in EIA or CHO-K1 cell culture. Celandine and rhubarb extracts do not reduce CT immunochemical activity but prevent elongation of CHO-K1 cells. Oak and hop extracts suppress binding in EIA of cholera toxin and GM1 receptors and insignificantly reduce its

Cyanide formation from glyoxylate and hydroxylamine catalysed by extracts of higher-plant leaves.

Extracts of spinach, maize and barley contain an enzyme which catalyses the formation of hydrogen cyanide from glyoxylate and hydroxylamine. The enzyme is dependent upon ADP and a divalent cation such as manganese. Glyoxylicacid oxime is a poor substrate for the enzyme. Carbon dioxide is another product of the reaction and is probably produced in 1:1 stoichiometry with hydrogen cyanide. The possible relationship of this enzyme to the regulation of nitrate reduction is discussed.

Anti-cancer effects of plant extracts in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Current treatments for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) often encounter difficulties such as local tumor recurrence, distant metastasis, drug resistance, and significant toxic side effects. Plant extracts have become important resources for the development of anti-HNSCC drugs due to their multi-target action mechanisms, abundance of bioactive components, reversal of drug resistance, and high selectivity/low toxicity. The challenges faced by plant extracts during anti-cancer clinical translation include low bioavailability, unclear mechanisms of action, complex components, and diff

Anti-Androgenic Potential of Plant Extracts: Molecular Mechanisms, Synergistic Effects, and Nutritional Interventions.

Androgen dysregulation impairs the homeostasis of the prostate, hair follicles, and ovaries, driving the pathogenesis of prostate cancer (PCa), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), androgenetic alopecia (AGA), and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Current antiandrogen therapies are constrained by drug resistance, off-target toxicity, and limited long-term efficacy. Plant extracts, enriched with bioactive constituents such as polyphenols, alkaloids, and flavonoids, represent promising multi-target candidates. Therefore, focusing on plant extracts-particularly those of dietary origin-this review

Plant extracts as emerging modulators of neuroinflammation and immune receptors in Alzheimer's pathogenesis.

Memory loss is becoming an increasingly significant health problem, largely due to Alzheimer's disease (AD), which disrupts the brain in several ways, including causing inflammation and weakening the body's defenses. This study explores the potential of medicinal plants as a source of novel therapeutic agents for AD. First, we tested various plant extracts against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in vitro, following molecular docking simulations with key AD-related protein targets such as MAO-B, P-gp, GSK-3β, and CD14. Rosemary extract was found to be the most inhibitory towards AChE. The compounds

Plant extracts, polymers and new approach methods: Practical experience with skin sensitization assessment.

Over the last decade, research into methodologies to identify skin sensitization hazards has led to the adoption of several non-animal methods as OECD test guidelines. However, predictive accuracy beyond the chemical domains of the individual validation studies remains largely untested. In the present study, skin sensitization test results from in vitro and in chemico methods for 12 plant extracts and 15 polymeric materials are reported and compared to available in vivo skin sensitization data. Eight plant extracts were tested in the DPRA and h-CLAT, with the 2 out of 3 approach resulting in a
