Comparative antioxidant analysis of extracts prepared from Indigofera longiracemosa aerial parts identifies leaf methanolic extract as a promising antioxidant.

Extraction of phytochemicals from the leaves and stems of Indigofera longiracemosa, a previously underexplored dye-yielding plant, was done using four solvents of increasing polarity followed by in vitro assessment of their antioxidant potential. Of the four solvent extracts, methanol extract yielded the highest percentage of phytochemicals. Methanol extracts of leaves and stems also showed the best antioxidant potential in in vitro antioxidant assays. Further, comparison with known standard antioxidant molecules showed lower IC50 values for the extracts tested. Our study thereby validates for

Desert Milkweed (Asclepias erosa) as a Midsummer Resource for Arthropod Communities in the Great Basin Desert.

In arid ecosystems, consumer communities are often structured by strong temporal fluctuations in resource availability. During midsummer in the Great Basin Desert, high temperatures and declining soil moisture cause many early-season plants to senesce, potentially concentrating arthropod activity on the few species that remain physiologically active. We characterized arthropod assemblages associated with the desert milkweed (Asclepias erosa) to evaluate its potential role as a focal plant during this seasonal period of reduced floral and vegetative productivity. Arthropods were surveyed on ran

Failure mechanisms and bending strength of Fuchsia magellanica var. gracilis stems.

In the course of biological evolution, plant stems have evolved mechanical properties and an internal structure that makes them resistant to various types of failure. The mechanisms involved during damage development and failure in bending are complex and incompletely understood. The work presented builds on a theoretical framework outlined by Ennos and van Casteren, who applied engineering mechanics theory to explain why different woody stems fail in different ways. Our work has extended this approach, applying it to a detailed analysis of one particular species: Fuchsia magellanica var. grac

Epigenetic Regulation of Cotton Plant Height by Histone Acetyltransferase GhHAT11 via Hormonal Pathway Modulation.

Histone acetyltransferases (HATs) regulate transcription epigenetically through histone acetylation and play crucial roles in plant development. In this study, we identified a cotton HAT gene, GhHAT11, associated with plant height and investigated its regulatory functions and underlying mechanisms. Tissue-specific expression analysis showed that GhHAT11 was predominantly expressed in stems. Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) of GhHAT11 significantly reduced cotton plant height and internode cell length, whereas heterologous overexpression of GhHAT11 in Arabidopsis thaliana increased plant hei
